That was pretty awesome :)
There is already at least one Tabletop Simulator mod for Gwent, although apparently someone has filed a DCMA takedown notice on it.
Damnit Wither 3 writers, can’t you stop going all dark and gritty at every turn? I finished the main quest in Novigrad, and then I got a new quest about Dandelion
quest twist
[spoiler]reforming the local to open up a Cabaret. Cool, a “goofy”, light, quest, it seems. Well, nope.
Let’s put a fanatic serial killer which tortures his victims in horrible ways as a twist!
Oh, and when you finish it look at the Journal. Depending of how you do it, the killer can escape you…

Very useful

The more I have to use Witcher senses, the more I dislike that mechanic. I never particularly liked detective mode in Batman either, but at least that was sometimes interesting when you needed to line up those question marks. Thematically it’s OK, but from a game play perspective CDPR haven’t done anything interesting with it. Following glowing red trails and interacting with glowing red objects doesn’t really add anything.
It’s worse because Geralt’s normal movement is already clumsy, so the fisheye effect with the closer perspective makes it even harder to walk around the rooms you’re required to investigate.
It does add because, at least sometimes, if you don’t find some clues, your quest can go very differently. Or you can miss/find some stuff that would flesh out a story in a bit different way. Witcher sense is what helps sometimes to turn a simple fetch quest into something with a backstory and a twist. Not always though, sometimes you are just following a red trail. But one can’t expect every single side quest to be awesome.
The fisheye effect definitely sucks though. If someone finds a way to get rid of it, I am all in.

Ya, a lot of the time on those quests, you don’t actually HAVE to find everything… So if you just follow the red trail, for instance, without looking around in more detail, at the end of the quest you don’t get the same conversational options, and never uncover the actual truth about what happened.
Thanks.
At this point I’m almost ready to just read the books but like, I gotta play this game. Maybe after W3 I’ll check out the books. Then replay the whole series.
I like it from a conceptual/role playing perspective. Geralt does have heightened senses, and Witcher Sense is his way of “focusing” on his senses to find things and all (out of “investigations”, it can locate monsters by sound - if you’re attentive enough, you might even identify the type of monsters by the sounds they make). It is also useful in terms of storytelling, and also much better than sending “magic pulses” to highlight interactables (the way Witcher 2 and DA:I do).
Conceptually, I like it. I think it’s a great idea to Batman up his Witcher senses. The issue for me is that he already moves like a drunk APC, so flipping out his vision and making him move between furniture and through doorways is less than optimal.

I guess what I’m saying is that the actual act of using witcher senses doesn’t add fun. There isn’t any skill involved, you just need to spot red things. They even tell you where to look. Yes the clues you find add interesting bits a lot of the time, so it’s worth while using the witcher senses, but they could of added a method to reveal that info that actually added to the fun.
If you mean some kind of Witcher Sense minigame, err, no thanks. :) The game has enough systems in place and interesting ones, I don’t want stupid little useless minigames that just waste my time. It’s ok to just look for stuff to find stuff, just ride a horse to get somewhere, just click a chest to unlock it, etc. IMO.
In fact, I see this stupid fisheye effect as an attempt to “gamiefy” something that really doesn’t need to be. It doesn’t add any challenge or fun, it just obscures your vision, makes you nauseated and impedes your movement for no reason and no gain.
From CDPR:
We would like to let everyone know that we are aware of the XP glitch players are reporting and we are working to have it fixed as soon as possible across all platforms (Monday for PC & patch 1.04 on consoles in the following days).
At the same time we want to shed some light on the issue. First of all, it doesn’t impact the game balance in any significant way. Also, you will be able to finish the game with your character achieving a level within the threshold we had in mind when we designed the game.
We hope this clears things up a bit. Again, rest assured, we won’t stop working on improving the game and there are more patches coming in the near future.
Like I said, I never would’ve known about the XP bug, if no one had said anything.

I don’t like using WitcherVision very much, because yeah. It gives me the hurls.
And…that’s why they did it that way, I think. If you’re going to put that mechanic in there, there has to be a tradeoff or else as a player you’re thinking “Why don’t I just use this all the time as my default?” They can either make it so WitcherTronics have a finite number of uses, control it some way. The Batman games tried to curb it by making the world monochromatic, but you still had folks who used Batman-O-sense all the time, and I saw numerous reviews make mention of that very thing. By making WitcherMatic the way they did, it’s something I use sparingly and only if I feel like I’m missing something or if I’m in an investigation, and I’m OK with that.
The only thing “gamiefy” about it is that once you put this system in–and we’ve seen this in games from AC to Batman to whatever–you have to put in a counter to keep players from abusing it.

Yeah, I really hate the Batman implementation for that reason. For the time, Arkham Asylum looked pretty great. But you’d never know, because it was so advantageous to be in Bat-o-vision. At least for the Witcher, I don’t know why they bother at all. Just have things glow in your ordinary vision. Make it toggleable for loot, if people complain about it.

See, I think the witcher sense actually provides a nice way of doing the highlighting that many games have for showing loot and stuff, but does so in a way that makes it more immersive.
I like not having everything glowing, but being able to quickly make it glow in a manner which is actually kind of explained in the game.
Yep, I see your point and I agree to an extend. I would argue that it’s silly to complain about the possibility of playing in monochromatic world all the time because it’s kind of your choice. But it’s not like silly complaints is something rare nowadays. :)
Still I think that playing with FOV is not a good choice for a tradeoff simply due to physiological reasons. Ugly, color distorted, sound muffed view should be enough of a tradeoff for most (reasonable) people. :)
I agree. I think when some people say it’s good they refer to all the writing involved (Geralt doing autopsies or guessing what happened) as it’s very well done. It nails how it would work being a witcher, seeing or smelling something the rest can’t.
But in the end, Geralt is the one playing detective in cutscenes, the player barely has anything to do. Hold witcher-vision button, click or follow the red stuff. I would liked if the player could play more at being a detective, you know, with the game giving me evidence but the final judgment of what the evidence means left to me.
But of course it’s something “dangerous” to do, as players could get stuck, some gamers would find frustrating to always fail, etc
