The tutorial should have told you about signs. I think? Use the left bumper and match the symbols, then right trigger to cast. You mostly want to use your shield, Quen.
Haven’t noticed any broken quests due to order.
You can start exploring whenever, but it’s safe to get to the first inn and branch out from there. Don’t feel compelled to jump off your horse at the first moment. There will be plenty of time.
Font size increase is next patch.
The music is appropriate. Just turn it down.
110 hours in, and now that I think about it, I still have not found the vampire from the “is it May 19th yet?” !!! I feel cheated, cheated I say!
Quen alternate mode is AWESOME. Just saying.

I like the Yrden alt. Turret ally? YES! Turret ally that acts as an AA gun against all projectiles? FUCK YES!
The Quejn alt is nice for healing though and cool looking especially how transparent it gets when bright out vs. the bright glow of dark out, and the little detail show off of showing rain drop hits makes me smile with a glowy ‘oh, nice touch guys!’ feeling.
I must be doing something wrong, because I cannot for the life of me get the alternate (Puppet) Axii ability to work. I hold the trigger (or keep Q held down) and Geralt casts the spell, but it just stuns the enemy. It never makes them an ally.
Edit: Yes, I have Puppet activated in the ability slot.
I have a bug where the alternate Axii mode doesn’t trigger if the first Axii upgrade is in a slot. In other words, for the second upgrade to work I found the first upgrade can’t be slotted.
Ah! So I can’t have Delusion slotted at the same time!
That kind of sucks for my build. :/
But it’s the only sign where the one of the modes enters in conflict with the other, that’s why I think it’s a bug. I hope.
I’m on a full-on sign build, and experimenting a bit. All signs are pretty great, and useful in a lot of different tactical situations. Favorites (so far) are Igni alternate mode, Yrden (normal and alternate) and Quen alternate mode. A fully maxed Quen alternate mode makes healing a lot easier than even using swallow and stuff, and it’s especially helpful against mob attackers like drowners. If you have good stamina regen, combining Yrden alternate with Quen alternate can take you from “oh my god I’m dead” to “ok, that was easy” faster than you can say “OP”. ;)
I’m guessing I’m something like 60 hours in now and I have 1 early quest I failed because I wasn’t paying attention but I also have at least 3 mid-game quests that failed because of my quest sequence. There was no warning such as “this will screw up quest X, are you sure?” (I’d probably suggest looking this up if you’re still early in the game)
It’s no big deal, there are tons of quests, but still annoying when you’re a tiny bit completionist and unlikely to finish this game more than once.

Yep, sometimes I do take a swig from inventory outside of combat - like Golden Oriole. I think you can only drink the healing potion (Sparrow for sure, not sure about the other one) from inventory during combat. I do use oils and decoctions when it’s convenient or I think I may need the extra umph in a battle. I like how the decoctions last a long time.

I have them both slotted, and it works, so if it’s bugged for you it’s just that… a bug. But not one that is universal.
The way it’s supposed to work is that you press fast for a stun, or hold it down for a bit to dominate targets.
You can hold it down for a longer period of time, and it seems to use more stamina, but I can’t tell exactly what the effect of that is. Does anyone know?

Yep, that’s my mainstay. I will do the telekinesis sometimes to stun / stagger a group of humans or shield users.

One thing that is nice is that some of the skills, like the Aard alternate mode, seemingly do not need to be slotted to work. But most do.
Which is kind of a shame, because I kind of want to have access to all of the alternate sign modes. :(
As a sidenote, is it just me, or are red mutagens really hard to find early on? I’m on level 13 (in Velen, before Novigrad), and I have tons of blue mutagens, a lot of green mutagens, and maybe one or two red mutagens (which are not normal lesser mutagens, but specific monster mutagens usually used for decoctions and such).
If you are level 13 and not in Novigrad, get your ass up there, you are already over leveled for some main story quests!

This is a confirmed bug, don’t get used to it.
The Get Junior questline was so long…
but satisfying at the end. Did anyone actually
get junior spoil
let him live ? I loved Geralt’s angry monologue there.
I am doing Novigrad main quests at level 19, so I did not get any experience for vast majority of it.
And I don’t care :p
Best encounter of the day (so far): Flatulent trolls. :)
It doesn’t matter that much.
