Hah hah, I totally guessed the Philippa thing! It was obvious.
A thing I’m liking with Ciri
very light spoiler Ciri quest
the quest where Ciri moves around in Novigrad. Again, it remind us that we aren’t the center of the universe, it shows us how Ciri met different people who we never knew about, even after our intensive research of Ciri’s whereabouts, nor they were showed in the flashbacks.
I also like that a few people recognize Geralt as “the Geralt”, the one of the ballads. In a pair of occasions it’s like you were a famous actor, lol.
Anyone else catch one of the strumpet’s of Novigrad, mentioning a few lines of a Madonna song? :D
I’m waiting for them to fix Pyres of Novigrad, which is the next main quest. But I still have plenty to do elsewhere, so I can wait. ;)
Whats wrong with that quest? I didn’t come across any story halting bugs in it.
There can be one, but I just did it last night finally and had no problems.
Some people are stuck in it, I think, a bug. It wasn’t my case. As it happens with this stuff, I think the occurrence of the bug has been greatly exaggerated. Internet being Internet.
A little detail, but I like how the npcs that go with you (or you are following) just go at the speed you are using, both walking or on horse. Walking, running, sprinting, they just copy your speed.
Are the alternate modes of the signs covered in the tutorial? If so I don’t remember.
Many people are unable to press a brick or something (it becomes unresponsive), and get actually completely stuck. CDPR already announced that a fix is coming in the next patch (which should arrive sometime this week), and I still have plenty of things to do, so I decided to wait instead of risking running into that problem. Of course, if I run out of things to do before the patch arrives, I’ll risk it anyway, but I’m in no rush (yet).
When you unlock an alternate mode, there’s a little text tutorial.

It is a small thing, but I just did two small quests. One was the arsonist of the blacksmith, the other was finding the guy’s brother who was probably killed on the battlefield. Neither were anything special. But somehow they were just a little… better. Better than these standard, short kind of side quests in games like this. I’m not really sure why yet, perhaps it is as simple as the character acting. And these were short and simple.
The resolutions of both quests sold them for me.
arsonist
I loved that the dwarf ratted the drunk out to the guards and had him executed. Cold blooded. In any other RPG, the drunk would’ve been made to pay a fine, work for the dwarf, and learned the error of his ways. Not here. Hang him from a tree!
brother
Finding the injured brother and the enemy soldier joking and grousing about their shitty commanders while hiding in a shack was pure gold. Plus, it’s probably the only straight-up good side quest result I’ve had!
Yep, mechanically, in options and in scope a simple little quest like the Arsonist in White Orchard is a very simple quest, but it’s all about how it’s placed in the context of the setting (foreign army invading the home land, drastic changes coming, resentment floats in the air, neighbor turning against neighbor, situation of war, past discrimination is fueled anew), how it fits in perfectly. The best part is when you talk again with the dwarf a few days later, you learn there are good and bad things coming from the quest.
Yeah, the font is too small. My solution is that I get up off the couch and walk up to my TV to read. It is a known issue and they’ve promised they’ll increase the font size on console in the next console patch.
When I was looking in the beastiary for tips on how to defeat a monster/animal, it shows “Susceptible to” and then symbols. But I don’t see any help screen that shows what the symbols are - do I just need to look in an online guide, etc?
You can use the thumbstick or d-pad to steer over to those symbols, and when you have each one highlighted, it shows you what they mean.
All sounds negative, but the “feel” from the beginning is very promising. I’m JUST starting, as in we’re in the first inn. Question - it feels like if I let it, the game will just push me down the main campaign. How soon can I safely start “open worlding” it and freely explore?
You’ve almost caught up with me on the main story, and I’ve been playing for a couple of weeks! Instead of going into that first inn, I started exploring the village with it’s quest board, and the surrounding area. Then after doing a few sidequests, I went into that inn and did that quest, but now I’m at the point where I’m doing more exploration of the area and searching out more sidequests and questionmarks on the map. So yeah, I’m at the same point as you on the main story, but have been doing a lot in that area with regards to exploration. And that’s where the combat system has come alive for me too. There were several enemies I just couldn’t defeat, so I got a few more ingredients, made some potions, gained some abilities, and returned to kick some ass. Plus I got better at combat in general by fighting a giant bear. Find that bear. The bear finally made the combat system click for me.
I ran into a big bug tonight. I accidentally rode Roach into deep water. That somehow transported me off the map, and when I got off the horse, I’m now “underneath” White Orchard, which I can see above me. Apparently underneath White Orchard is an ocean of water. And I’m stuck there.
And I hadn’t saved in a long time.
Note to self: Never ride the horse into the water again.
Just finished the play quest, and something tells me the devs are big fans of Ultima VII.

The font is unreadable for someone with my eyesight, I played for about half an hour to an hour before having to give up. But I wasn’t too worried, something this bad and widespread would surely get patched pretty quickly. Then I read the patch notes… What a slap in the face.
A “slight” increase in font size might bump it up from completely unreadable to readable with extreme strain, which isn’t good enough. I really don’t understand why they’re insisting that this is a console-only problem, but the patch notes certainly make this look like 60 euros straight down the drain for me. It’s getting fixed for some users, why go out of your way to not fix it for everyone? Fuck you CDPR, doing nothing would’ve been better than an insulting token change that won’t fix the problem. All it does is signal that someone there is invested in the current broken design, and will block any attempts at a proper fix.
Guess I’ll live vicariously through you guys by reading this thread, and wait until a modder fixes this. Also, did I say fuck CDPR yet? Because fuck them.

I am irritated they are being so cavalier about the xp bug. Even though leveling in Witcher 3 is about as underwhelming as it gets in RPGs, they have to know that leveling and RPGs go hand in hand and a bug that limits xp/leveling is going to drive people crazy. Right? They have to know that, don’t they?
They said Friday they identified the bug and the list of quests it affects. So why no hotfix? Why not publish the list of affected quests? It seems to me that they really don’t know what is causing it and are still working on figuring it out.
Since Friday I have just been exploring ?s and doing treasure hunts, horse racing and gwent. Been focusing on getting Witcher gear diagrams.
Does anyone know if there is a static source of Greater Glyph diagrams? I have read a few locations people have suggested on the internet but the diagrams are not there for me. I was able to find the Greater Runestones…but crafting them is problematic. The game does not recognize my lesser runestones so even though I might have 10-12 of lesser whatever in my inventory, the crafting tab at a smith tells me I have 0/3.
