I noticed I can’t take any screenshots through the Steam overlay myself, I assume due to this very thing you describe - what .DLL files and where are they?

The extra DLL files are in the same directory as witcher3.exe (in my case, whateverpath\bin\x64). I had to remove all of the DLLs that were added when the DLC was installed (going by the file timestamp).

The full list of possible filenames (not all were present in my case) given by GOG support is:
d3d11.dll
xinput9_1_0.dll
xinput1_3.dll
xinput1_2.dll
xinput1_1.dll
opengl32.dll
GogGalaxyHooks.dll
dxgi.dll
dinput8.dll
dinput.dll
ddraw.dll
d3d9.dll
d3d8.dll
d3d10.dll
d3d10_1.dll

BTW, if you really want XP, there’s now a mod in the Nexus that seems to do a reasonable job of restoring it.

Man, I really need them to patch the text size on the PS4.

I have no idea what I’m doing, LOL! I am still just starting, JUST starting, and even though I suck at melee, I am proud that at level 2 I killed the bear that was, I think, level 6. I actually was able to use the dodge button to get behind him, hit him, then dodge again as he turns on me, etc. We were both pretty much at the whoever gets the next hit in wins point and I dodged behind him and got a heavy hit on him and killed him. That was fun (and I hate melee!)

I much prefer a one on one type of fight like that to what the rest has seemed to be, mobs of enemy. That is just too hectic for me to enjoy, even when I win. The cool thing about the bear fight was that it allowed me to be deliberate in my choices rather than hectic button smashing.

And I’m too nice to be a witcher. Twice I have taken the “nice guy” choice at the end of a mini-quest. Though I was good with the results.

AND I thought it odd that you could just walk into someone’s house and take whatever you want, and they didn’t say anything or complain. I’m used to having to sneak (Skyrim) and do that unseen. Then I went to the garrison north of the first village you end up in, asking about Yennifer, and discovered THEY don’t like it if you loot in front of them! (Loading saved game…)

Mobs of enemies is when you are supposed to use your bombs and your spells like Aard and Igni. But yeah they can feel stressing and even frustrating.

There’s also a mod that fixes alchemy recipe bugs (Northern Wind, Moon Dust, etc) available if anyone needs it.

Which reminds me, have anyone seen a venomous Arachas? I’ve seen barely a pair of Arachas in all the game, and the only venomous was in the last dungeon of the game (literally done 20 minutes before the final sequence). I ask because there was an enhanced formula that needed a component of that enemy, and it seemed pretty weird to not be able to do that potion during 99% of the game.

I just completed a quest that caused ‘The Last Wish’ and ‘Following a Thread’ to fail. Is it worth reloading a prior save so I can complete those?

Let the story unfold as it has, I say. Go another direction on a future play through!

Oh no.

Witcher 3 does not contain any people of color not because of “mythology” or “history” or “book lore” but most likely because CD Project Red never even considered adding non white characters to their game. They literally forgot that non-white people even exist, which is something that happens when you are a white person, living in predominantly white culture, and consuming predominantly white media. You can literally spend a few years making a cool video game, designing awesome monsters, and interesting characters, and not even once consider giving one of them a darker skin color. Folks who made the game not evil racists (at least I don’t think they are), they just happened to do a thing that white people very often do, which is to ignore everyone that does not look like them. By doing so they contributed to erasure of non-white people in the industry. Witcher 3 is yet another game that features exactly zero people of color. This is a problem.

There are a pair of npcs of much darker skin color, but they have a purpleish hue, I never know if it’s a bug of it’s a fantasy skin color from the setting.

edit: forum “protection” system won’t let me make a new post. So I will edit here

What was the mission “Following a Thread”?

Yes, I encountered a few in an unmarked underwater cave somewhere in Skellige that were way above my current level (15) and had question marks above their heads. Scared the pants off me and I barely made it out of there.

Are they completely ignoring that the nonhuman races are clearly used to explore themes of racial issues?

I haven’t read the books yet. (I’m waiting for The Last Wish to become available again, and kicking myself for not grabbing one when they were in stock just prior to the game’s release.) However, the in-game lore states that humans entered the world during a conjunction event, so it is perfectly reasonable to expect a certain lack of genetic diversity if the event was localized on the original human homeworld (Earth?). Does any of the canon literature touch on the specifics of how humans came to be in this world?

Adrian Chmielarz tears this idiot apart

I’m not saying I agree with the overall criticism, but the argument I’ve seen is that you can’t point to dwarves and elves and say they’re an adequate substitute for non-white humans because that in itself is a sort of “whitewashing” of real people.

As for this, I agree with some of Adrian’s points and disagree with a few just like the original criticism from Luke Maciak.

They’re both using some seriously flawed logic and disingenuous arguments to defend their positions.

The “it’s fantasy” point works both ways. You can use that to ask why there aren’t any darker skinned folks in the game and you can use it to say that it’s based on Slavic folklore to say the opposite.

The one where your witcher friend asks for help. It starts in Novograd and moves to Skeliege (sp?).

It’s a cool mission, I would do it if possible. I think it’s one of the very few missions that are “timed”, as in, in certain phase it can fail because your Lambert will do the objective by himself if you don’t go to help him. Or at least I imagine that’s what happened.

It’s always questionable whether I will do a 2nd run, even on a great game such as this!

Fair enough, I guess, although I wasn’t thinking of the nonhumans as being substitutes so much as a vehicle for exploring the themes of prejudice and oppression. I’m far more interested in how this game makes me think and feel about about how people treat people that are different from themselves than I am in the skin textures of the characters. Heck, can you imagine the uproar if they did just replace the nonhumans with non-white humans and kept everything else the same?
