Leave ESO and play The Witcher.
Kotaku throws down the gauntlet.
Dragon Age: Inquisition vs. The Witcher 3
I appreciate that they try to make that less one-sided than it really is, but really, there is no contest. Witcher 3 beats Dragon Age Inquisition by a freaking light-year.
Yeah…even the points they give to DAI I would disagree with :)
Well actually, DA:I definitely has better box cover art. I have no idea what CDP were thinking there. They completely dropped the ball on that one.
Yeah, I’ll concede that one. ;)
The inclusion of “Box art” as a point of contention kind of implies to me that they were trying to drum up some categories DA:I could win to stave off a nasty PR email or two.

Well look at some of the categories they gave to DA:I, or were a push. Obviously stuff like the sci-fi easter eggs are brought up so that it isn’t so lopsided. Things that went for DA were almost universally more minor points. Things like the world map are naturally less important for most people than the quality of sidequests. Not all categories are created equal.
This does make me want to play Witcher 3 more. Curse my time!

Yeah, probably exactly this.
Also that troll scene was fantastic.
Witcher 3 vs DA:I?
Let’s say it this way:
-DA:I has good lightning tech. Magic is spectacular thanks to that.
-Obviously it has more freedom in choosing what type of hero you play, combat wise.
-It has a good amount of well done party members.
-It has a good variety of scenarios. Deserts, tundras, forests, rocky coasts, swamps, etc. I liked that.
-I didn’t finish it but from what I played (33 hours) the balance seemed more or less correct.
…and that’s it.
In all the rest of features, like graphics, art, animation, music, combat, main hero, storytelling, side activities, interface, controls, humor, horse implementation, side quests, setting, crafting, loading times, themes, etc etc Witcher 3 is better.
I did finish DA:I. I thought it was okay. The Frostbite engine did wonders for the game, but beyond that it was really the same old BioWare RPG stuff. There was the romance collect-a-thon, the companion story quests, and the Foozle boss fight. Dialog choices once again were “help this person” or “kill all the puppies.” I’m starting to feel like BioWare games are cranked out in the same manner Ubisoft makes open-world games. Soulless.
I feel like the comparison (and Kotaku isn’t the first to do it) is ridiculous. In a world in which The Witcher 3 didn’t exist, I’d still say DA:I was kind of a boring, bland, by-the-numbers, big-budget, focus-tested RPG. Compare DA:I against The Witcher 3 and it’s not even close. DA:I is the Bud Lite of RPGs. It’s not offensive. You’ll take one if it’s offered and there isn’t anything else, but you’d really rather have a better beer.
A disabled quest. Pretty funny!
Everyone looks so punchable in Dragon Age.
I wanted to punch my own character in game a few time. :D
I never finished DA:I , I was on the final quest… Just can’t find the desire to go back after Witcher 3.
I put about 30 hours into DA:I and got distracted. After putting 103 hours into TW3 with no end in sight, it’d be hard to imagine going back.
And finished… Seems 1.07 broke Steam achievements, I didn’t get one for beating the game, nor hitting level 35…
Calling it now, without question my 2015 game of the year. Its over and I don’t know what to do… I guess I still have the gwent tournament and a few contracts to clean up, but it won’t be the same.
MY ENDING SPOILERS
So I got the ending where you go fishing with Ciri and give her a piggy back ride. Then she goes to become empress, and you go spend the rest of your life in bed and taking baths with Yen, I think this is the good ending? It seemed good. :)
They’ve fixed your achievements and you’ll get them retrospectively.
In patch 1.07, the level requirements for certain items were scaled up, leaving some players stuck with only unusable gear. With patch 1.08, we are introducing the Wolven Hour potion. This potion will be available in everyone’s inventory once they install the patch. It will reduce level requirements on all gear for a period of one hour. This will give players time to level up or find alternative equipment using the gear that was available to them in patch 1.05 but became unusable after patch 1.07. After one hour, the potion’s effects will cease and the requirements for all gear will revert to their original, pre-potion values.
That sounds like a pretty half-assed fix.
It’s not a fix (balance has been changed and it will stay that way) - just a workaround. Considering that merchants sell leveled stuff and have been doing so for 4 or 5 patches already, one hour should be more than enough to get (temporary) gear if you need to.
I get that they’re aren’t changing balance back. I’m just wondering why this is the best they can do. A one hour potion? That’s lame.
