I’m torn… I’m loving the side missions so much, but kind of feel dumb running around playing Gwent while (censored) is in (censored) hiding from (censored but the game’s title’s a bit of a spoiler here).
The game imo wasted an opportunity by not having a scene where Triss and Yennefer play Gwent with Geralt as the prize. :P
I don’t think Triss or Yennefer liked Gwent at all. Their game is politics and scheming, not a CCG.
Now, Shani - Shani I can see appreciating a good bit of Gwent, and I hope Geralt gets to have some fun with her in one of the expansions. And maybe play some Gwent with her too! ;)
So Jeff Vogel (yes, that Jeff Vogel) just tweeted this:
Bah, another triss lover :p

There can be no other. The only time Yennifer was appealing was when I dumped her.

But Yen!!! Did you not have the option to do the Last Wish sidequest?
Yen , unicorn fun time, and baths for life… <3

I broke it off with Yennifer so I never saw the unicorn part. She was always just such a wench I never wanted to pursue her.
you make me sick :p
cool news, though I hope fullblown redkit will also be released later, I assume they are still getting it into shape.
Indeed. I actually find all the suggestive dialogue options with her quite annoying and forced. But I suspect that is largely caused by the fact that I didn’t read the books, and as such don’t have anything with Yen, whereas I certainly do have something with Triss…
On another note: I’m having trouble with my map settings: is it possible to just show the POI’s, caves, bandit hideouts, stashes and so on that I have already discovered/cleared? I want the question marks off, obviously, but being able to see where I’ve been would be useful, and somehow I haven’t found the right setting for that yet…
Having looked at it, as Don Rickles once said: “Lady, these are the jokes.”
Turn off the ?s but leave the other options on - they’ll only show up once you’ve found them.

Getting into the early stages of the game. So far I really suck hard at Gwent. I’ve only once beaten some miserable merchant in a backwash town of Velen.

I also suck at Gwent, but I actually just finished the beat all the gwent players in Velen quest. My very simplistic strategy at this point, which I am sure will fall apart soon, is this:
1 Get all the cards you can find. Even though I am only playing the Northern Realms deck, I grab every card I can find.
2. With Northern Realms, get the Leader which lets you double your siege row score.
3. Using spy and decoy cards, throw the first round and try to get your opponent to play as many high cards as you can, while retrieving as many cards of your own with the Spy and Decoys. Goal being to have a decent card number advantage going into the second round.
4. Cross my fingers and try to win the second round while keeping as many siege row cards in my hand as I can for the 3rd round.
5. In the 3rd round, load up the siege row and use the double score for the siege row ability of the leader at the end to win it.
For me, the tricky one is the second round. I can usually get the opponent to play some good cards in the first round and use my spy and decoys to fill my deck back up. And if I get to the 3rd round I usually can win with the double the siege row strategy (and I fill my deck with siege row cards.) So winning that second round is critical. I almost always throw the first round.
There are also different Gwent strategies to use against the peculiarities of different decks…and then JeffL has some great ideas too. There’s definitely value to throwing a round to get your opponent to play too many good cards.
120 hours in, no non-compulsory games of Gwent played. I’m a Witcher not a player.
Hang on…
But if you win the Gwent tournament, you get all the ladies.*
*this might be a lie.
Do I get to keep playing once the story with Ciri is resolved, or do credits roll? There’s at least one thing I want to visit back in Velen…
