Unfortunately we’re probably 2 years away from being 1 year away from the Cyberpunk RPG. Quality and crazy artistry takes time.

Yeah, it was probably overstating it to say it the way I did. But really most of the concessions they made to the design (removal of the board, for instance, in favor of just 3 rounds), I feel are to make the game work 2-player. The three types of unit are just to limit the effectiveness of the global (weather) cards, which work in the exact same way as the board game.
I’ll agree that a physical version would seem pointless- this early in the game, there doesn’t seem to be any reason not to load your deck up with good cards.
That said, Condottiere is indeed an excellent game, which I’ve been beating the drum for since I bought my old Eurogames Editions copy 15 years or so ago. The FFG reprint is ok, but I miss the funky ‘tarot-sized’ (and styled) cards when I play it. If y’all are jonseing for a physical version of Gwent, you could do worse that to hunt up a copy of either version.
I found him! I found him! Woohoo!

Re: Gwent - from someone who’s never been a deck building or collecting or whatever these games are, and had NO intent of playing Gwent since I really role play in games like this and Skyrim and Geralt would never waste his time playing Gwent,
and then played it and got addicted: I think if the company were to invest a little effort into making this an iPad game, they would make another bazillion dollars. Just make a map and create a little game that is focused on Gwent, make the gameplay of Gwent exactly the same, have places on the map where you can play for cards, etc. Basically an iPad game that is analogous to the Gwent quests in W3.
A million dollars to put into your next major game. You’re welcome. ;)
Finally finished the game. Xbox One tells me it took 135 hours. Such an amazing game; definitely going to make my Top Whatever list.
Well… At the PAX CD Projekt panel, Jakub Szamalek (head writer) said there was “good news for Gwent players coming up.”
When he was asked directly about a standalone version, he laughed it off and said he’d give the suggestion to his co-workers.
They’ve said previously on their forums that while Gwent is fine as a minigame, it would require a lot of work to be a good game itself. I agree with that but expect they would make a ton of money from a standalone version regardless.
There are a lot of people that don’t understand how Gwent as-is doesn’t really work outside of the structure of the game’s campaign. They have fun with it in the game and think you can just break it off as a standalone title with minimal dev effort, which is not correct. The game just doesn’t flow if you don’t have the artificial progression of traveling around and winning new cards to make your decks better.
Yep, Gwent is good, but as a minigame where the deck advances with you as you progress in the game. You have that moment where you fight for the first time a good deck, and it’s impossible to win. You come back 10 levels later, and finally beat his smug ass! And you have a reward for it that allow you to beat other decks of that level.
But it wouldn’t be fun to play against a stacked deck when you have a “low level” deck, not being able to do anything against a player who spent more money or time than you is no fun. And to be honest, even if the final matches are epic, they are a bit limited strategic wise, it’s mostly heroes and spies everywhere.
I do wonder how many of those people that think Gwent would work outside of W3 have much experience with modern board/card games. I enjoyed collecting all the cards and beating NPCs with 100+ scores by using spies and decoys, but I wouldn’t ever choose to play it outside of W3.

(raises hand.) No experience with modern card games. Not even computer/iOS ones.

Yeah, love Gwent, but the only real cards I play with have diamonds, spades, hearts, and clubs on them.
Witcher 3 posts: about 1 a day
Gwent posts: 7 in two hours :)
Fine but I still want standalone Triss.
He means Shani. Or Keira, if we’re limited to Witcher 3 without expansions. ;)
Congrats to Denny who seems to have finally given
ahem
the what-for. Assist to some PNW waiter who provided advice and counsel.

I’m just getting back into this now and man it’s a good as I remember. I fell off my horse into a pack of drowners by the shore and it got the heart all aflutter again. I’m dodging, throwing out igni, chopping heads off and cackling in no time flat.

I’ve been reading the thread but I don’t recall anyone saying they started a NG+ game. Has anyone?
