backspoiler
As far as the games, and not the novels, are concerned, it’s understood that Triss, at best, abused Geralt’s amnesia in order to have a relationship with him. Betweeen Act 1 and Act 2 of the Witcher 2 she throws Yennifer under the bus and explains what a horrible woman she was to Geralt.
By Witcher 3 you can decide which of them you prefer. Triss, who is conniving but madly in love, or Yennifer, who treats everyone around her like children (Geralt most of all) and seems the prototypical “passionate sorceress”, but does have a core loyalty.
Jesus fucking christ, fuck the Katakan. This is the first time I’ve raged at this game.
Which one was the Katakan? Was that a Witcher contract?
I know people earlier in the thread talked about some difficulty spikes on certain bosses, and since I never encountered any, I’m wondering now in retrospect which of the battles were supposed to be hard if I hadn’t been over-leveled for everything.

It’s a vampire in one of the Triss quests. Even with Yrden and fire and shit I still failed 7 times.

First, make sure you’re fighting him at noon and not after the sun goes down. His regen is MUCH higher after sundown.
I’ve seen a couple of approaches that work:
- Axii him and you can pop him a few times before he comes out of it.
- High level Igni can also be very effective.
Using the right oils, etc of course and making sure you take Golden Oriol to resist the venom. Also Moon Dust prevents the regen.

I assumed that being underground the sundown was irrelevant, but I guess not.

No it isn’t, there’s a really big difference in the regen if you fight him in the middle of the day. (I just know because I saw it in an official guide, I believe.)

I’m so happy I picked this game back up. Finishing up the mainish quests in Novigrad and doing the beginning of Skellige, I actually felt shit. I felt really bad turning down Triss’s advances (they did an incredible job with her facial animations) at the party, and right before she boarded the ship I told her to stay, and she got this heartbroken look on her face and said we needed to move on. I felt awful letting her go. Fastforward a bit to Skellige when I finally get to meet up with Yen, I was almost giddy with how well Geralt and Yen received eachother and just, in general, acted around eachother. Made me feel a lot better about letting Triss go (plus, you know, unicorn sex). I can’t remember the last time I was actually moved by a video game.
You may need to work on that spoiler.

I edited it like 4 times because for whatever reason Qt3 tries to force you to have a “title” for the spoiler. Fixed now.

I finished it 😢 every contract done, all the treasures found, freaks dealt with and world saved. Sad. Such a great game.
So when’s blood & wine hitting? #fiendingformorewitchering
I think summer is the expected date. Still some ways off.

Went back and did a level 6 quest that was in my journal, even though I’m level 26. Knowing I’d get about 2 EXP from it.
And loved it. The writing in this game is just So Damned Good (So Damned Good Writing must be a CDProjectk (sp) trademark, right?) that I want to do every possible quest, sidequest, etc. just for every experience I can enjoy, because one day there will be no more left. :(
Mission with emotional impact
Oh, and I ran into and finished the quest where you find another witcher. Took the path of listening to why he spared the little girl, and instead of fighting him, which is where I was sure this would lead, let him go. The camera work and follow up to that decision was worthy of a good movie.
One more quest that fooled me in terms of where it went and the options it offered and results of the less obvious option.
Skyrim, my all time favorite game a few months ago, now feels kinda like a cartoon.

Yeah, I’ve actually been thinking of starting over from scratch so I can play all of the side missions I missed despite 130-ish hours of play.
Just trying to decide whether to start from scratch or do a New Game +.

Question: is there an armour/weapon level beyond “Superior?” I ask because I did the treasure hunts for the Griffin armor and weapons up through enhanced, and it shows the next Griffin treasure hunt being in red/above my level. But I have all Griffin Superior Armor and Weapons equipped. Relying on a lot of signs (mainly Igni and Yrden) and with this combo my sign intensity is showing up as +210%.
So I’ve got all Superior Griffin equipment, but still have Part 4 Griffin armor, steel and silver sword upgrade on my quest list. So is there a level above superior? I hope so - I’d hate to know I’ve topped out on my swords and armor at level 26 (where I am now.)
Question 2: Is +201% the max sign intensity? It seems when I add a +5% sign intensity runestone to my sword, the Sign Intensity stays at +201%.
Thanks.
Dunno about your second question, but yes, there’s an armor level for School armor above “Superior”–“Masterwork”.

If I remember right the Witcher gear is better than anything else you’ll get.
It is, but only because of their stupid level requirements. Throughout the game, I found plenty of gear that was really interesting and was better than the Witcher gear that I had on, but the level requirements were too high for me to use the equipment. But then, by the time I was high enough level to finally use it, I had different Witcher gear that was better than the old gear, and better than the non-Witcher gear I’d been waiting to use.
If there’s one failing with TW3, it’s in the equipment. There are so many interesting pieces I pick up but all I do is toss them in my stash (because I’m a hoarder) and sell off the less interesting stuff. I’ve been able to use a non-Witcher steel sword for the most part since I like the armour penetration on it more than an extra few % of some effect/sign. It’s too bad, because they seem to have put a lot of work into making different pieces of equipment only for it to be relegated to what is essentially junk or for coin.

Yeah, I find a lot of very interesting piece of armor or swords, with fascinating names, Relic designation, and really interesting properties. But as Rock8man noted, it is either underpowered relative to my Superior Griffin stuff, or requires me to be 7 levels higher than I am. So I wait until I am at either an Armorer or a Smith (since they give much better prices for this stuff than regular merchants) and sell it. I probably should stash it just to end the game with a chest full of cool souvenirs, but I find myself either rolling in money or close to broke most of the time.
And it wasn’t until about level 20 that I realized that many of the items I needed to craft some cool stuff could be made from dismantling all the stuff I had in my inventory. Duh.
