Yeah, I was really sad when a king gave me his family sword as the tool that would help me defeat the Wild Hunt, and I had to sell it for cash because my Witcher gear sword was better by the time I hit the level where I could use it.

Yen lore question

Yen saves Geralt’s life at some super-climactic point, right? Does it happen in one of the books or is it just backstory

Actually, it’s mostly the opposite. There’s a LOT of history between them.

Either way,
Yen/Geralt

I’m particularly talking about Yen being blinded and something equally bad happening to Geralt (I don’t know much because I didn’t want to read too into it if it’s in the books). Do you know which book this happens in?

answer

It’s mentioned (not described) in Sword of Destiny, I think. Geralt actually thinks she’s dead, but she survives, and recovers her sight through magic. I don’t remember particulars though.

Yennifer/Geralt History
It’s in one of the short story collections, The Last wish. Geralt saves her as they’re dealing with a genie. Won’t spoil the actual events as that collection is a really fun read if you like the games.

Trivia: Before she was a sorceress, Yen was a hunchback.
Finished Sword of Destiny and it was excellent. So many feels at the end. One question, though:

How did Geralt end up back with the merchant before he found Ciri? Wasn’t he crossing the river with Dandelion?

Afaik meeting Dandelion was a flashback. That whole story had several slightly confusingly intervowen flashbacks into it.
“The present day” was Geralt being wounded and taken to merchant’s family, where coincidence, or fate, made Ciri end up as well.

And yeah Sword of Destiny is lovely. My favourite is probably A Little Sacrifice, but all of them are great.

Oh dear god, that ending.

It’s been a while since I’ve been this annoyed with baffling design decisions. Turns out one dialogue choice at a seemingly minor detail halfway through the game decides whether Ciri dies at the end or not. Really?

If I’d have more time, I’d go into the shitty execution of the player decisionmaking and how dialogue choices are hard to predict. It feels like I have no agency over my fate, shit just seem to escalate in random directions no matter what my intent is.

Now, at the ending, I’m underwhelmed with the experience. While the lore is rich, the gameplay is repetitive, solutions often similar, and the whole thing was just too long.

Come join us in the spoiler thread and discuss the ending further.

Timelapses…love them so much. Too bad Digital Foundry stopped making those.

The only thing that spoils those is the lack of movement from the thatching on the roofs.

finding Ciri

Its been quite some time since I played the game, so I’m a bit fuzzy on the details, so perhaps someone with a better memory can help me out?
Just rewatched the scene where you find Ciri in the hut & she seems lifeless, but then a white light comes along and enters her head and she wakes up. What was that all about again?

The boat being completely immobile is more glaring.

About finding Ciri…

answer?

I don’t remember the game ever explaining that, but it feels to me like her soul was magically kept separated from her body, and they reunite at that moment. Not sure though.

Oh damn. Blood and Wine will feature completely new music “from scratch.”

Yes, Mikolai will be back in the new expansion, we also have a new composer on board – Piotrek Musial, who is behind music for games of 11 bit studios, including This War of Mine that received multiple awards. The three of us are working on the music for Blood and wine, and it will be completely new. We’re not using any pieces that were written before, because we get a completely new area, new characters, and a new plot. They deserve to have their music written from scratch.

I’m ok with that, as long as the music is good. ;)

Actually I think it would be awesome if the music was just terrible. Just some guy twiddling at a piano, occasionally banging both fists down, finally a mumbled “aw fuck it” as he walks away.

Pam par ram pam pam par rammmm

Even more interesting info is that there will be Witcher concert at Krakow film music festival. I just hope it will be recorded and uploaded.
The last year’s Vikings suite is fantastic (too bad the show’s quality does not reflect the music quality):

So goooood.

Check out the other concerts on the channel.

And one pet peeve of mine - why post a link to a site which just rehashes information while there is an actual source with full interview ?:
