Need some advice on playing both expansions. The Witcher 3 is one of my all time favorites, but I never actually finished it. Almost at the end though. Way passed the point where you get the message about some quests being unplayable.
Should I rush through to the end start a ‘new game plus’, or should I start over? I like the idea of a new game plus, since the combat is more interesting for me when I have all the potions and abilities, but I don’t know if new game plus is good / balanced. I also don’t want to grind for all the potions, bombs, etc… again.
On the other hand, ‘rushing’ through the end game is maybe not the best way to set the tone for a new session. Also- do the new expansions affect the end? Perhaps I could finish before installing the expansion, start a new game plus, then install?
You have the base game, Hearts of Stone, and Blood & Wine. They’re pretty much all separate from one another even though Hearts of Stone and the base game take place on the same map. You can do some quests from the base game, start Hearts, go back to the base, do random POIs, etc. AFAIK, no quests in the base game impact Hearts and vice versa. That said, it you waltz into Hearts content at too low of a level, you’re going to have a lot of difficulty.
I expect Blood & Wine to work the same way except you get transported to a separate land to do it.
The expansions are leveled to after you’ve beaten the game. (I’m assuming B&W works this way.)
Starting NG+ means you just leveled the expansion content to after you’ve beaten NG+.
GoG has it for about the same price. I might go with GoG since 1) DRM-free, and 2) the inevitable discount on Witcher 4 pre-order.
This is gonna sound weird…but I think I’m going to go find a save from just before I finished the main story quest and re-play my time in HOS and then pick up B&W from there.
I like the idea of Geralt being able to go visit his friends if I want him to. The expansions feel so…sad…without Zoltan or Yen or Dandelion or Ciri hanging around.
Well, Hearts of Stone has Shani. As for Blood & Wine…
for fans of the books
…at least Regis is pretty much confirmed to appear, and I’d expect Fringilla Vigo to be there as well.
The loading times are lightning quick on my SSD, but removing the loading cutscenes is helpful.
The long load times did drive me crazy on Xbox One, until I started “snapping” TV to the side and watched something during the load times. Each time you died it was more than a minute, sometimes almost two minutes, so there was plenty of time to watch a sizeable segment on TV while I waited.

I wish the patch would release so I could start a new game with the enhancements and then be ready for the new content when it comes out. I need some time to get my witcher on.

Have they said if the patch is coming out before the DLC?

Not that I know of. I was just hoping.
I just wrapped up Heart of Stone. Man, that was just freaking incredible! It was a lot bigger than I had anticipated, too, but I got it wrapped in time for Warhammer. Bring on the next expansion!
Some of the best quests of the whole game, and some of the best characters too, are in Hearts of Stone. If Blood & Wine keeps that level of writing and gameplay, we’re in for a treat! ;)
Apparently, there will be a enemy level scaling option. Coming from a german youtube video, so just a gaf post as source

BTW, if you are like me and think reading the books enhances the game, the next book to get an English translation just showed up on my Kindle.
New trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP-ZsLYGJfQ
Terrible music choice, which is surprising from CDPR. Reminds me of that DA:O trailer featuring Marilyn Manson.
It’s for console players.
;-)
It stopped being funny once I realized you were right.
Indeed, music sucked, but damn did the combat ever look more intense!
Music would be good if no screaming was involved. Although yes it would never really fit the setting. I would much prefer another Disdain and Fearesque or Hopesque trailer.
Apart from that, awesome trailer.
