The thing that really makes the Witcher 3 my BEST GAME EVERERERER , is the presentation of Geralt over the course of the 3 games, and what he is by the time Wild Hunt comes out.
In the first game I have no idea who he was or what a Witcher even was, I only made it half way or so in the first game, but I did liked what I played. And I really liked the character I was getting to know.
Witcher 2 comes out and I hate the combat, sooooooo much, I never make it out of the prison and don’t play it again for probably 2+ years. Eventually the Enhanced Edition comes out with the less sucky combat and I give it a go. And what a amazing 40ish hour story that was. Again the game made me care about Geralt, and I became even more engrossed in this world and the people who he interacted with.
BOOM 2015… and its Witcher 3 time, my hype is through the roof, and the game is just about perfect in every way it could be. Geralt is even more refined and the world is so well developed , exploring it is amazing. Every quest seems to matter, there is filler content but its well written and just seems to fit perfectly in the world.
Over the course of 3 games I don’t think I’ve ever come to care and enjoy playing a character so much. I am only 20% through Hearts of Stone and I am savoring it. Between that and Blood and Wine, I know I am going to have an experience that no other game on the market today can give me. CDPR was able to take this character and make him super interesting and for a character without emotions, or whatever lessened emotions due to becoming a Witcher , he sure made ME feel a lot of emotions.
The last character from a series that had anything close to this level of growth for me was probably Ezio from AC2/Bro/Rev. I cared about him throughout his 3 games also, which was impressive for an Ubi game to accomplish, as most of their charterers are just meh. Just some stuff on my mind. :p
Oh look, there is a third ending in B&W which I didn’t know about, which includes also new scenes and location.
Geralt…
Witcher 3 is really good.
(there, 20,000 posts! moving on.)
Not a bad way to mark such a milestone. Congrats!
Damn! Nice work, you wordy sumbitch! I enjoyed all 20,000 thoroughly.
Witcher 3 and expansions for $50 on GoG right now.

On the PS4, I keep getting a contract message that reads “Contract on…God knows what on!” - I can’t find anything about it online. Seems to be flashing when I complete part of the monster contracts I’ve been doing. Has anyone heard of this? I can’t believe I can’t find any info on it at all. Seems like it might be an error message of some kind.
They are! I just stumbled upon them in Novigrad
Spoiler
while doing the Broken Flowers quest, where you have to find Dandelion by tracking down and talking to a lot of girls he was in contact with. In the house of one of them, a teacher, a letter is on the table mentioning the arrival of 6 orphans, from an unknown location (they where found together, asleep on the doorstep one night).
.
So, well done CD Projekt for tying up that loose end! :-)
Also, this is easily the best season pass value I’ve seen for a game.
So, did anyone else stupidly stumble across some fun Witcher 1 story lore in the game?
I was looking for gear

So I’m well into Blood and Wine, and actually wanting the Grand Master Wolf set to compare to my Grand Master Feline set of armor. I needed a couple of pieces of superior wolf stuff, and that took me back to Kaer Morhen. So I finish getting the stuff and notice that in the location I’m in, there are barrels and stuff. Can I loot? Engage Witcher sense!
I can indeed loot some stuff. But I also notice that there’s a splotch of red. Huh. I investigate. It’s a dead drowner. It leads me to more. And more. It’s a trail, and it goes back into this hidden cave I’d have never discovered in the game, except by dumb chance, some 40 hours after finishing the main game. In that cave is a troll. I kill him because, hello, cave troll liver is valuable as a potion ingredient! And then I find a set of orders from none other than Azar Javed. Holy shit, blast from the past! Turns out a bunch of attackers on Kaer Morhen during that opening fight in Witcher 1 were camping in this cave and got themselves killed by the angry cave troll. Would’ve taken the castle completely if not for Trolly Trollerson.
So of course, then I feel bad for killing the big guy. [/spoiler]
Was going to ask, is that with all settings maxed, including hair works?
details are as described, but hairworks is always off. I hate how it looks on Geralt and it eats unreasonable amount of performance.
I might use the mod that removes it on Geralt but leaves it on animals, gonna test it when I start playing.
Do you recall that shadows on medium made a big difference? I have them on high and I remember testing all the settings back when the game came out.
I actually have foliage on medium for fewer dips.
Yeah shadows eat framerate the most after hairworks and foliage distance. Medium looks pretty much undistinguishable from ultra for me, while giving me nice framerate boost. And with 970 I had foliage distance on high, since ultra eats framerate hard. Getting it on ultra for my second playthrough was one of the reasons I got 1070, the pop-in is just distracting (although TW3 handles it pretty well compared to many games).
i intend to go from 770 to 1070, and REALLY looking forward to it reading this :D
Yeah, I’m going from 780 to 1080 and feel the same, to the extent I’m not going to start Blood and Wine until it arrives. Damn you EVGA and your slow EU shipping.

I found with my 780 I can play on Ultra with everything on but hairworks and if I set the frame cap at 30, it never raises above nor below 30 and the end result is an incredibly smooth gameplay experience.
I have a 1080 coming as well, but there is so much meat on these bones I should have plenty of gaming hours with the same settings but hair works on and 60fps (one would assume) so I’m playing it now. That and I couldn’t wait. :)
30fps is and can never be called incredibly smooth experience :)
Although I tried 4K downsampled with ultra which 1070 handles at 30fps and fuck does it look just insane. But 30…nah.
Oh it certainly runs. I did the entire base game and most of Hearts of Stone on this card after all. I’m just planning on saving the next expansion for when I can have the optimal experience. There’s lots of other stuff I can play for the next few weeks.
