Pretty sure it’s due to how awful youtube is.
HQ gamersyde version here for those of you allergic to youtube compression: http://www.gamersyde.com/news_the_witcher_3_xbox_one_footage-16529_en.html
I hope you’re happy, because the downgrade discussion just made it to the Quarter to Three main page.
;)
Wow, the difference between the YouTube footage and the Gamersyde footage is really noticeable. Does YouTube do a second compression above and beyond what someone uploading a video is already doing? Seems kinda dumb.
Yeah, I think Youtube reencodes everything. However, I think there are tricks to minimize the damage.
Note that tomorrow’s reviews will all be the PS4 version. Review copies for PC or XBone either haven’t gone out yet, or went out late due to continued optimization work.
I watched them in full screen on two screens at once and it’s sort of startling. I’ve been enjoying YouTube footage for years and I always thought the only compression was what the users introduce when they get the videos under the 2GB file size limit. It’s not a big deal, but I’m glad I can sort of auto-adjust my expectations in my head now I know what to look for. We’re kinda blessed to be gamers during a period when you can get a hankerin’ to learn more about a game and just watch countless hours of footage for almost any game, really, so it’s hard to complain.
Hopefully this is VanOrd’s “You guys, so good!” stance.
I won’t watch any streams, mind you. I had enough (minor) spoilers watching videos, so now I’m avoiding spoilers the best I can. 7 days, 3 hours and 15 minutes left!

For those thinking of upgrading their video card…
Upthread I asked for advise to get my computer Witcher 3 ready. My old card was an ATI Radeon HD 7870. New card is MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G.
Here are some benchmark comparisons
Tomb Raider: Ultra settings, no Depth of field (I hate that effect), 2X SSAA anti aliasing
Old card: avg 24.o fps (16.9 to 33.0)
New Card: avg 44.7 fps (28.7 to 60.4) I had vsync on so the max probably would have been higher
Skyrim with an ENB and maxed Skyrim settings
Old Card: 23-29 fps
New card: 47 to 60 fps
Crysis 2 Ultra settings
Old card: around 40 fps
New card: around 55 fps
So, I’m pretty happy with the performance boost!
It’s time like these where I’m wondering WTF the space is going in titles like MKX, which is 30+ GB
Textures and sound usually.
Mind you that Witcher 3 preload is ~25 GB, but it only includes English sound files. If you want other languages in audio, you’ll have to download them come release, and there’s yet no info on how big those files would be.

When you’re ~16 hours away from seeing the first reviews to the biggest game in a franchise you’ve worked on for 10 years. Eep!
Was the release time moved up? Reddit is reporting it as Monday the 18th at 7 pm EST. :O
The guys at CDP must be quite anxious.
I know I am not gonna get any work done come tomorrow 2PM. Gonna be on gamespot/videogamer etc devouring everything.
No, I think that’s always been the release date.
That is midnight on the 19th by whatever time standard CET or whatever is.
So yeah, pretty much 7 days from now.
