I always search for “topless unicorn.”

I’m just going to wait for the inevitable “director’s edition” that adds the fun.

Interestingly, Boing Boing picked up this article. Unfortunately, they linked to it by saying it was about the most disappointing video games ever which is about as accurate as saying it’s a cooking recipe for coq au vin. And that discussion! Oh Lord!

I may not read the articles, but I always do authors the courtesy of reading the headlines.

And it’s Rob Beschizza, who used to post here and didn’t come across as being as much of a doorknob as he reveals there.

Guilty.

Joking aside, I don’t remember a recent thread this active prior to the game release. You’ve almost sold me on the game, I just know I’ll never have time to actually play it.

I would normally be right there with you. I’m just so captivated by so many things about this game, from the cool story of the developer/publisher, to the interesting variation on fantasy tropes you get from dudes who weren’t raised on the Arthur/LOTR tradition to the games themselves that I’ve been working out ways to budget a deep dive into this for months now.

Witcher 1 has some serious pacing issues. Witcher 2 is much more linear and focused, which means less pacing issues, but depending on how you tackle the sidequests, you might have to backtrack through some places a bit.

That’s really what it comes down to, its not about the cost of the games anymore the older we get, its about the time investment. Hell… I am gonna shelve GTA 5 as soon as I can launch Witcher 3.

I actually read the entire Kotaku review, that almost never happens. The writer really loved the time he spent with the game.

The hype train manifests: Wild Hunt just overtook GTA V at #1 on the Steam charts. The $80 version of the game that includes the season pass is #4.

Sarcasm is dead to millennials and younger.

Also interesting to me is that despite the Xbox One co-marketing deal, the review copies sent out were for the PS4 version. CDPR making sure they put their best foot forward graphically since the PC version is still waiting on last-minute patch stuff.

I keep seeing this phrase, “The hype is real!” and I can’t figure out what the fuck it means. What the fuck does that even mean?

It’s real. The hype.

There was fake hype , up until today. I guess?

You’ll never understand until you get hype and judge for yourself.

Basis.

Anything else we can help with?

The “is real” part is from “the struggle is real” meme, as far as I can tell. It’s sorta like #firstworldproblems or #whitepeopleproblems. Example. It’s a sarcastic “you don’t get it/everyone overlooks it, but my personal struggle is significant!”

So in context it’s the implication that others don’t realize just how big a deal the hype is for this game, but it, is in fact, a big deal. The hype is real.

Damn. Tough crowd over there.

Also, personally I find “The hype is real” to be true when you feel the hype all over your body. You knew stories of the hype, you were kinda second guessing people claiming to be hyped. Then you felt it on your face.
