The Witcher is not headed to the big screen

When the major studios option a franchise, that doesn’t mean much. It just means they paid someone for the privilege to say “we call dibbs!” Screenwriters might be hired, talent might be courted, directors might be talked to. But in the end, an optioned property is just as likely to sit on a shelf as it is to become a movie. That’s Hollywood for you.
This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at http://www.quartertothree.com/fp/2017/05/17/witcher-not-headed-big-screen/

Also the author of the books is involved.

As to who should play Geralt, there can be but one choice - Gilbert Gottfried.

It should be noted that Platige, the Polish effects studio in the announcement, did the CG intros for the Witcher games, and created the trailer for Cyberpunk 2077.

Vin Diesel might be a good choice to play Letho, though. :)

I could get behind that. No idea who would make a good Geralt though. Probably end up being some twenty something model type.

Maybe Viggo Mortensen or Hugh Jackman? Or maybe even Chris Hemsworth? I don’t know. Picking a good but mostly unknown actor is probably a better choice.

I could see Viggo but I don’t think Hugh would be a good fit. I could even see Jason Statham. You laugh, but picture him with a white wig and cat eye contacts.

I checked online and lots of people are rooting for Mads Mikkelsen.

That’s a great picture. I don’t know much about the guy, think I’ve only seen him in Casino Royale.

I wonder how they’ll pull off the sword play without it looking cheesy like the tired and unconvincing fight scenes of The Hunger Games given that Geralt has faster than human reflexes. I also wonder if they’ll include Ciri’s storyline and by the gods Ihope they keep Dandylion’s ballads to a minimum.

There will probably be plenty of TnA like GoT since Geralt is an aesthetic slayer of the poonany

If they’re following the books, Ciri MUST be there, since most of the books are more about her than anything.

Zach McGowan from Black Sails would make a good Witcher and he’s more likely in the price range for this.

Why couldn’t Geralt be played by The Rock?

Geralt is a charming guy and all, but not that charming.

Can you smell what Geralt is cooking?

See, it even makes sense, what with the potions and such. Unfortunately he’d have to cut his run at The Witcher short to run for president, but I can’t think of any better practice for higher office.

Good thing it’s Netflix, because now we can have scenes like this.

Which reminds me of the dwarf who keeps going on about his “fuck date.” Ah, here it is, Sheldon Skaggs ladies and gentlemen:

He’s been playing a recurring bad-guy character on Agents of Shield lately too.

Zach McGowan would be a good choice (as would Mikkelsen).

I’m going to toss Michael Chiklis’ hat into the Letho ring.

It better be shot in Polish, and provide English subtitles, just like the game.
On that account, I hope I have no idea how to even pronounce the lead’s name.
