The original 360 headset is like one of those old plastic digital watches worth $10. Despite being made with the cheapest components possible, it lasts forever. Mine still works.

The no headset thing was figured out at the Xbox One reveal when they listed what came in the box and shrewd people saw that no headset was listed. In fact, I’m sure if you scrolled back through this thread we talked about it early on.

It’s a shitty decision. It’s obviously not being done to keep the console cost low. The original 360 headset couldn’t have cost more than $3 to manufacture. They just want to justify use of Kinect and make money off the accessory sale.

Yeah we talked about it earlier. Keep in mind that 360 headsets are not compatible, you need to buy the new headsets as they have changed to a different connector type. I wonder what the markup is going to be on the new headsets, I’m guessing they go for 20-30 for the low end one and up to 150 or more for the high end headsets.

The Microsoft one is 20 dollars. Turtle Beach will have a bunch of actual headsets out at launch that range from “lots of money” to “waaay too much money.”

Yes proprietary connectors for the lose. At least Sony had the sense to use a common headphone jack so if you want to upgrade your headset you can get any one you want

Where have you seen the price listed for it? Amazon for instance still has no price.

I thought I saw it somewhere but I quick google search doesn’t show anything. Sorry about that!

My cheapo packin Xbox 360 headsets all still work fine. Electrically they are super-simple so it isn’t too surprising, the only thing that could really go wrong is a bad joint causing the wire to come lose at a connection point and the 360 headset is actually well designed to avoid this despite the overall cheapness. They are made of cheap plastic, though, so if you happen to have kids or pets that chew things, YMMV.

In any case, I’d rather have them pack in a headset that breaks easily than imply to everyone that it is ok to use your Kinect as a mic, because unless the new Kinect has some amazing alien technology for separating the player’s voice from everything else going on in his/her living room, which I’m assuming it doesn’t, I’d much rather hear nothing than the horrible noise the emanates from Kinect-mic players.

In any case, I still have no concrete plans to buy a One, so this doesn’t actually impact me for now, I just thought it was an… uh, “interesting” decision.

We tried using the Kinect as a mic early on and it was really terrible for that purpose.

Microsoft is teasing a new Crackdown for Xbox One. Ruffian Games (who worked on Crackdown 2) is confirmed to not be working on a Crackdown game. The studio that did the original doesn’t exist anymore, thanks to the failure of APB. So … who?

I hope a Crackdown follow up that lives up to the original blows everyone away when it comes out eventually. Looooooove Crackdown so much. To me that was the absolute surprise of the whole previous console generation.

This!

PC Gamers don’t have to pay for the privilege of connecting to other PC gamers… we pay the ISP for that. It’s not common I run into issues with connecting either, rarely have to screw around with ports for example.

PFFT! Crackdown 2 was the shittiest console game of this generation. It was SO bad, it’s the only game I’ve ever traded in. I refused to even be reminded of its existence.

There was only one Crackdown game, one Matrix movie, and 2 Aliens movies.

The 3rd and 4th alien movies might not have been in the same league as the first two, but they were still pretty good movies in their own right. They were nowhere near the fail of the AVP movies, or even predator 2/predators.

I see someone didn’t play Lair.

Decent game, especially if you like dragons and blowing shit up using dragons. I remember thinking the controls were annoying though.

And I liked Crackdown 2 quite a bit, still play it occasionally. Finally Xbox gets a point in its column.

Well, sort of. It’s a bit like From announcing Dark Souls 3 will be coming exclusively to PS4, but it will be developed by another studio.

And then three months later they quietly announce it will be developed by Zynga.
