Tablets are pretty expensive. Especially since they mostly do things that my phone already does. But I’ll probably have to buy one soon because my wife wants one. Except she wants a 10inch screen and 3G, which makes a tablet very expensive. Same price as a XBOX One, in fact, or close to it.
I have to go back and confirm this but I thought the Xbox One reveal showed the actual interface and real world usage. I recall one of the Xbox VPs saying something like, “That’s it. It’s literally that fast and easy. Wanna watch it again?”
Sony did not show their interface live. There is an IGN video earlier in this thread that shows it… but it’s a series of jump cuts. You definitely do not get a sense of what multi-tasking will look like.
I do. And if I could play the Last of Us, Halo, etc. on it, I wouldn’t have bothered buying a PS3 or a 360. People buy consoles primarily for games and features. Of course, we want new and better features with each generation.
Yes Microsoft has showed more of the interface then Sony but so far everything is controlled experiences, I was more wondering about hands on experiences by game writers, I believe that in the WiiU was only at launch that reviewers were able to access the online features and there was that big day one patch so they couldn’t make an informed opinion on how it would be to use the final product. At this moment Microsoft is the one that has to make it’s case for the 100$ or essentially make the case for kinect, so if they can do a good experience demo with the system it would in there interest to have game writers try it out.
Absolutely. I want both the Xbox One and the PS4 put head to head pre launch.
Just heard on Tech News Today that Don Mattrick is leaving Microsoft to take up with Zynga, possibly as CEO.
Yup. AllThingsD agrees. It’s fitting that he goes to Zynga.
His brand of insultingly smarmy insincerity should fit right in.
Seems like a good match. Zynga already sucks horribly, so there’s a built-in limit on how much damage he can do to it.
Sometimes you need a sacrificial lamb… honestly, if he is responsible for the DRM vision and the rollout for it, I have scant sympathy.
Actually, it is pretty clear now that the stage demo from May was faked. The feature story video from Wired showed it actually running live and it was much slower and the video was very choppy. Yusef also appeared to be operating a remote in his coat pocket at times, and the supposedly live television was showing an episode of Price is Right that wasn’t airing at the time.
This is exactly why I hope (fully expect) that before the consoles are out there will be a head to head discussion of what navigating their operating systems will be like.
I was being sarcastic :) It’s really not that simple for the reasons you mention.

Not really Xbox news, but sort of indirectly related and I’m too lazy to find the PS4 thread:
XBONE just can’t catch a break.
Since this is a magazine (and thus it takes time for them to layout content, finalize, produce and publish) I wonder if this cover was designed before Microsoft reversed course on DRM or before. If before, I get it. If after, with DRM off the table, this is way too premature.
Yup. I think as many other people have said in this thread (obviously not Jake Plane) even without the DRM issues, the XBONE is still the lesser powered, more expensive console with a focus on TV and cross-media consumption instead of gaming.
Unless you really want the TV stuff or just can’t let go of Achievements, why get the XBONE over the PS4?
Eurogamer did a good summary on Don Mattrick reign at Microsoft. It would be strange that it’s departure was direct consequence of E3 but it would not be strange that it’s was a decision that was hastened by E3 and the upcoming Microsoft reorg.
