It would be awesome if Microsoft cut XboxLive Gold prices in half for individuals. And then… if Microsoft dropped the console price to $449. Once we see Kinect 2 in action for real… I think that would just blow up sales crazy-like.

That was awesome. If this were reddit, I would post the first world problems meme and just paste that entire thing over it!

Assuming Microsoft does what no other company has been able to do and brings effective motion control to mainstream, non casual, gaming. If they do this, they probably own this generation. However if the kinect 2 is just more of the same we’ve seen from the kinect… Well, things probably won’t be quite so peachy and it will confirm the jabs everyone has been making at being forced to put down an extra $100 for the kinect.

Why would people play videogames with motion control? why move your whole arm to move the tiny pixel character on the screen wen you can move a finger. As a gamer, I don’t understand you.

There are vastly more Gold members than there are PS+ members. The prices they would have to pay would be proportionally larger. I think Sony probably spends as much as half the fees they collect to get these IGC deals made. I don’t know that MS is set up financially to absorb that kind of expense. Their strategy thus far is mostly about protecting that revenue stream.

Xbox is apparently considering augmented reality glasses:

Totally unclear. That article was on how PS+ handles it. I would imagine there might be a similar approach by Xbox - i.e. payments are the exception and the theory that limited time promotion boosts sales in the longterm - but the fact that it’s your game permanently on Xbox 360 but only temporarily on the PS3 might make a difference.

Given the choice, I would prefer if Sony actually made these games permanent. I can’t shake the feeling that my game library only exists because of my PS+ status. I don’t like that nagging feeling that these are just rented titles.

While I look forward to being proven wrong on this one, that looks really, really lame.

Yeah, I hate that feeling too. I had the same feeling back when I used to dabble in MMOs and pay the monthly fee.

“I’m paying a monthly fee, in case I ever get the urge to play. And yet, I’m not actually playing”.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that if I’d been a PS+ member within the last 3 years, then sure I’d “have” a lot of games, but I wouldn’t have had the time to play them yet. So that’s a lot of money I would have spent to add to a fleeting “not permanent” backlog basically. At least with Xbox Live Gold’s new program, Fable 3 being on my backlog doesn’t feel as temporary. It’ll be there if I ever get a gap in my play schedule, even after my Gold membership expires in April. And if I don’t get a gap to play it, that’s okay too, since I didn’t actually get Live to get the free game. With PS+ I feel like that’s the only reason to get a membership, and then if you don’t play the games, you basically just wasted money.

And man why don’t I get to keep all these Netflix movies if I cancel my subscription.

Exactly. When PS+ offers discounts for games I want, I feel I see the most value because I at least know that’s my game.

I think PS+ is great, however, if you are young. From childhood to college, your income is fairly limited but your time is ample. I can see how paying $50 for PS+ is a no-brainer in that situation.

Oh yes, definitely agreed on that. I’m 37 now, but I still go back to that mindset sometimes. Oh, it’s so cheap? I’ll buy it now, and I’ll play it eventually. That “eventually” being part of the mentality that comes from those younger days when time is abundant. Then you join the workforce and time gets less abundant and you keep that mentality. And then you get married and time gets even more scarce, and so on. Suddenly you’re looking at maximum 2 hours of gaming time a week, 104 hours a year, and part of your brain still thinks you can get to it later, that there will be time eventually. Crazy brain. Can’t you do math? 104 hours, that’s enough time to play Skyrim. That’s it!

When you figure it out, maybe you could tell microsoft, because they can’t seem to figure it out either!

It’s like you’re in my brain. Including the Skyrim reference. Because despite having an epic backlog of games, I do find myself time and again returning to Skyrim. That said, BioShock Infinite and the Last of Us quickly resulted in me finding time.

Don’t get me wrong. I like PS+. I recommend it. But if next generation, multiplayer gaming again sucks on the PS3… and Xbox incorporates a version of PS+ into LIVE for Gold members… then I very likely won’t pay for PS+.

I don’t want it for normal games per say (except head tracking in car racing - and have it actually work). But when I want some fun exercise, nothing in my mind compares to what could be next gen Kinect Sports. And playing motion games with kids is so much fun and full of laughter in full motion games is great. Having options is nice.

As a gamer, I don’t understand being against all motion control gaming. Do I want to play Halo via motion control? Well… that could be hilarious actually. But no, no I don’t.

But c’mon. Who didn’t like Wii Sports on launch (or the superior though less cute Sports Champions on the PS3)? If you haven’t tried Dance Central or Double Fine’s Happy Action Fun Theater with a group of friends, then I would argue you haven’t tried think of motion gaming. And - I will admit - that the Star Wars Kinect podracing game is mad fun.

To me, motion controlled gaming is to gaming as iPad gaming is to gaming. It’s not my preferred way to play games. There are significant limitations with the control scheme. It’s rare that those games appeal to me. But on the whole, I’ve had plenty of fun with both.

Xbox One is ditching the guide menu.

Apparently, if you want to do something else, you hit the Xbox button and it will take you to the home screen (think hitting the big button on the iPad or iPhone).

My question: so… if I’m playing next-gen Halo and see a friend log on and want to invite her to my game, can I do that as quickly as I can do that now? Or preferably, faster?

I know people scoff (“I don’t care about the operating system, I just want to play games.” ) but this is why seeing these operating systems matter. How quickly and easily you can invite friends into a game and how is definitely something that matters.

Yes, that matters a ton to me as well. Some mp games make it so hard to join up with friends. Team Fortress had been that way for me when I played it a bit a few months ago. Though I’m not used to mp stuff outside of direct IP.

Yes but they are asking people to pay an extra hundred dollars for what even supporters admit are niche, gimmick games.

Again, can anyone name the advantage to forcing Kinect? If, as we all think, it will just be used in gimmick games, there is no benefit to forcing it as the 10 people who want those games and didn’t buy a Wii instead well just buy the Kinect.
