Note to Thierry Nguyen - I’d have Microsoft commit to bringing the original Kinect Pentathlon, or an Olympics style event to the Xbox One for free to early adopters. That is the type of exclusive MS should have been pushing to justify the built-in kinect device. And since MS has supposedly set aside a billion dollars for advertising and exclusives for the Xbox One… make that part of the investment.

I honestly couldn’t care less about more shooters/zombies on console at this point.

Yes, because there are way too many shooters and not enough Wii extreme motion gimmick sports games…

How about they use some of that money to show us a use for Kinect beyond silly gimmicks or ultra casual social games?

If they want me to buy Kinect for over one hundred dollars, all they need to do is show me a real example of it not only working with a serious game, but adding to the experience over standard controls.

For obvious reasons I have decided not to hold my breath while waiting for this.

I’m not sure if you’re being facetious or not. But I don’t consider an extremely accurate tracking system of your whole body to simulate being in the Olympics gimmicky at all. It WAS in the first Kinect Sports since it wasn’t accurate and had limited graphics. But this round, it would be amazing to have a career mode that tracks all your times, shows them vs. friends, have mini-Olympic tournaments at home and on-line where it tracks everything and you climb podiums and receive medals (and achievements) at the end. Events like Javelin, Discus, Shotput, High Jump, Pole Vault, Long Jump, 40- Yard dash, Hurdles, Fencing.

What better way to get people to exercise and use the kinect? That right there would be the single reason I’d buy the XBox One despite it’s horrible performance (vs. PS One). The “coming next year” Kinect Sports Rivals look awful - like it was designed for people who are on ecstasy.

A full-body tracking exercise game based on an Olympic career is a longshot product. A goofball wiggle-waggle SPORTZ game is an easy sell.

Exactly how is that done? Do you run around your living room with it simulating you in the 100 meter dash? How about you throw your arm forward so your doing the shot put? Oh yea that sounds awesome…simulating the “Olympics” in your living room is the very definition of cheese.

You didn’t play kinect sports? You run in place. Based on the speed of your steps and the height your knees hit determines your speed. It’s an excellent system that worked poorly the first time around because the kinect 1’s tracking was so awful. Javelin, had timed elements, so it was based on running in place lead-up speed, stopping and a good hard throw at a specific angle. Honestly the ideas and the way to apply them were excellent, it’s just the technology hadn’t caught up.

Didn’t any of you play Epyx Summer and Winter games back in the 1980’s? I wanted that in kinect format: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0-LGPj2CLQ

Anyone get anything from MS? I’ve been on live since beta 1 and no email here:

Nothing for me, which is fine since my PS4 will be here in 9 days and I have no plans to buy an Xbox One.

now that’s the kind of loss leader i can get behind

I’d consider a One purchase once the following conditions are true:

  1. No kinect
  2. $249 (or $199 for the truly bold, aka noone presently at Microsoft)

It’s not actually a loss leader. It allows them to effectively knock $60 off the price of their console, bringing it much closer to PS4, but their cost is $0. Their potential opportunity cost is somewhere between $0 and $60. But I betcha that Live Gold sub automatically renews after 12 months and most people will just keep paying for it. In the end they’ll make money on the deal and sell more XBones.

Yeah, I’d consider a PS4 purchase if the price was $99. Otherwise NO SALE.

Actually I’m not buying either, because PC master race gaming forever!

(I am sort of interested in next-gen kinect stuff, want to see what gets built)

I might buy an Xbox 720p someday, sort of like i just bought a PS3 this year.

Same here. I have my xbox live revolt beta disc somewhere. Where is my free stuff??? I haven’t gotten squat from MS.

They’re selling all that together for $500? That’s pretty nice if the game’s turn out good. Or is that only for pre-orders? I can’t afford it but if I were in the market, that would certainly make me think hard about which console to buy seeing how Sony has no music capabilities (unless you buy their service).

I just bought 12 more months of Xbox Live and pre-ordered Forza 5. So I guess the decision is now final in my head: Xbox One at launch. (There was a new round of previews today that talked about Forza 5, and a friend of mind talked about going into a Microsoft Store and playing Forza 5 on Google+ today, and it all added up, and I decided I’d rather have the games I want at launch rather than a console with nothing to play).

I still haven’t canceled my PS4 pre-order though because of the prices they are going for on Ebay and craigslist. Mighty tempting to get the PS4, and sell it to help supplement the extra cost of the Xbox One.

Rock8, you are like that stereotypical story of the gay guy coming out and everyone being all “yeah we already all knew, glad you finally figured it out.” It’s been clear for months from your postings that you were going to get an XB1 and not a PS4, the only person who didn’t seem to know it was you.

I got one of the emails about Killer Instinct but I wasn’t interested so I deleted it. Oops.

No, that image is of a giveaway package to a select few long time Gold members who are getting the console free. In the US you don’t get any free games and you still have to pay for Live Gold and the console is still $500.

Hah! I love that analogy. But the truth is, if Watch Dogs hadn’t been delayed, then despite all the other factors combined, I still would have been sitting in my living room in a couple of weeks, playing Watch Dogs on my brand new PS4.

Now I just have to devise a way of convincing the wife that we need a PS4 even though we’ll have an Xbox One. I suspect that one won’t be easy. I suspect I’ll need a couple of years gap at least.

haha, such a flawed analogy! If gay men went back into the closet when eligible bachelors declared their heterosexuality or got gay married, then it might make more sense.
