I have a PS4 controller now. It’s nice.

PS4 in a year or so, probably, but I needed a controller for Dark Souls :)

Live demo of Xbox UI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhe6jV-APwM#t=32

It’s a very good demo. Smooth transitions between games and apps. Good use of user recognition and voice control.

I can understand people resenting having to get Kinect in the package. But it does make for a well rounded system and the OS takes full advantage of it.

The Skype demo was really neat, how the camera would follow you around the room.

Okay… That’s pretty awesome. Based on this alone, I’m definitely making my Xbox One my living room console and PS4 my man cave console.

Yeah that was really neat. And it’s cool that the One Guide includes shows from apps like Hulu Plus. So even cord cutters like me might find it useful.

The demo was pretty cool, but did a poor job justifying the kinect as anything more than a few dollar mic. Good use of an open mic though.

Also, notifications popping up while watching tv was pretty neat. I generally just use my phone for staying up to date while watching tv now. I can see how it could easily go wrong though. Imagine watching a movie and then getting hit with constant popups. Hopefully there is a way to go block them.

I’m sure there will be a way to block pop-ups while you use a particular app. You can block pop-ups on the 360 if you’re watching a movie or whatever.

I think the camera in the Kinect improves the voice controls, notice when they say “Xbox show my stuff” it actually knows who is talking, could they have done the system with just an open mic probably but with the camera is better.

Where are the ads? Given the current 360 ui I find it hard to believe they are gonna back off that much ad space.

Yes but how many people are willing to pay OVER one hundred dollars just so they don’t have to select their name from a list?

That even assumes they have multiple people using their console often.

People pay 100$ for 16GB of flash memory, the Kinect system from an hardware standpoint is worth 100$, from a functionality standpoint depends on the person. The whole system is too expensive for me in terms of functionality I would use, but if I found the basic system (without Kinect) worth 400$ I would not see the extra 100$ as big impediment on the purchase given the probable lifespan of the device.

I’d pay an extra $200 to not be encumbered with any of that shit, which is worse than worthless - it detracts from just playing games without being constantly solicited; takes up resources; and has the same subscription cost outside the US despite offering zero of the media offerings.

So will I have to buy a play and charge kit this time around? I’d been assuming for the last few months that I would eventually cancel my Xbox preorder in favor of the PS4 so I haven’t really been paying attention to the particulars of what you need to purchase with the console. The console doesn’t come with any way of charging batteries?

They won’t. It will be an ad-filled wonderland.

Despite this being a “live” UI demo, it’s still not the same experience you or I will get with a retail Xbox One hooked up to the internet.

So how are the options to restrict what gets put into your feed?

Will it respond to be called Xbone? That might be worth the price if admission right there.

If it’s attached to an iPad I might.

If it’s a newer version of something I already have and don’t use, eh.

Was thinking the same.

Here is the less staged version, which still works pretty nicely (with a couple of gotchas like: end your current sentence before you say XBox. The system only listens if you start a sentence with “XBox”). Doesn’t show as much as the 12 minutes walkthrough though:

It does switch back to the game very quickly.
