Apparently Target shipped some Xbox Ones to customers waaaaaaaaay ahead of embargo.

Wonder if someone is getting crucified over there?

Oh? That’s not so bad then. I thought AA batteries were out with the new controllers, and you could only use battery packs that charged with the new play and charge kit. If I can still use my AA enloop batteries, that’s great. I like waiting for accessories to go on sale, as they always inevitably do, so I’m sure the new play and charge kit will become much cheaper pretty soon.

At least one of those guys has had his console banned already…so if you get one won’t do you much good.

Wow, they permanently banned a console because the store broke their release date?

Also ads in some of the leaked shots of the interface.

They banned the console because he was livestreaming the UI and tweeting and posting screenshots. But another user who also got the console early was told by MS that he could do with it as he pleased. So, as long as you don’t do what MS NDA’ed gaming sites not to do before the embargo is lifted, you should be fine. It’s only supposed to be a temporary ban too.

Wow, I can use my console to buy insurance!

Like ask uncomfortable questions or mention anything that could be seen as a negative?

No 3d Bluray playback, DUH…

Did they send a copy of the NDA form for the customers to sign as well?

I figured it would probably be a temp ban, probably the only way MS could handle it. Of course now they have media reporting people getting banhammered before the console has even launched.

“I figured it would probably be a temp ban, probably the only way MS could handle it.”

Well no. The right way afaik to handle it is to tell the retailer they’ve broken their contract and to return all stock, now (would that screw them, as they’ve got other pre-orders? Yup, but not Microsoft’s problem!). While sucking it up that the embargo’s broken.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I see exactly one small ad in that picture, the State Farm one in the bottom-middle. If that’s what y’all call ‘being bombarded’, um, yeah.

Looks like the only thing that’s not an add is the red search button and the green video button. The state farm ad looks really out of place with the others.

wth?

Thats good advertisement ahead of release for sure :)

Eh, I agree that it was heavy handed. But Major Nelson is on the case:

@Moonlightswami Love to know more about what happened w/ your console. Can you follow and DM me and I’ll get this sorted out? Thanks.

Also:

@LookItsLewis @DimorphicAU @Moonlightswami Whatever happened it will not be permanent. I can say that with 100% certainty.

Could it just have been one of those auto-bans, similar to those which also occur when playing some games before release?

As for ads, I wonder if you guys have it worse in the US. I might not be paying attention, but I don’t remember seeing car or insurance ads in UK. Then again, I usually don’t pay a lot of attention to the stuff I don’t actually need on the dashboard.

Wendelius

If it’s a temporary ban, basically saying the user can’t use the product until the release date, that’s OK.

If it’s a permanent ban, that’s outrageous.

Also the ads, jesus. Screw that noise.

Err, he appears to be in the movie rental store part of the OS. Do you voluntarily go to a store, see all the products on the shelves and get mad that you’re being advertised to?

The verge pic on the previous page showed ads on the home screen.

XBOX DECREASE MY DEDUCTIBLE!

Don, correct me if I’m out of line here, but I thought you were asking to be corrected if you were wrong? You said there weren’t any ads on a page that clearly contains almost exclusively ad content. And don’t be psychoanalyzing my behavior in stores unless you’re prepared to do an analysis of my behavior in forums.

The Verge pic didn’t show any ads. It showed a column of “what’s new” items on the Xbox LIVE service.

I can explain a lot more on 11/22. :) I’m not in a PR role so I can’t talk specifics on features prior to launch. But correcting the misperception, those slots highlight new games, new movies or music, happenings on the service, etc. just like the non-ad slots on the 360.
