You want Microsoft to promote their competitors’ stuff? I don’t think that’s reasonable to expect. They already put other services’ movies and (lower) prices in Bing searches for movies and TV shows (on 360, at least – don’t know about One).

Promote? No. There shouldn’t be any promotion on page 1. It’s not about promotion, it’s about being truly useful as a digital entertainment hub, presenting the user with content they actually want to watch. That means all those various services need to be treated fairly.

On a related note, I made a Skype call yesterday (I’ve been away from home for nearly two months, so this is a recent change for me) and I see Microsoft have now placed highly intrusive ads into the actual call window. So while I’m seeing a photo of my sister who I’m talking with, I’m also having to look at a really distracting and annoying animated Fox Sports ad right next to it (where the second/third conference caller would go). Having ad-free services is one thing, but shoving ads right into your face like that is too much. I’m having a private conversation with my family and it feels intrusive. This is the same direction that I’ve seen the 360 UI heading towards for the last year or so, to the point where I’ve kinda stopped using it for media streaming anymore; the AV receiver that I bought does media streaming just as well without a single ad. So, Xbox One, how do you expect me to believe you’ll be any different?

People actually use the “modern” skype client? 4.2 is where the features pretty much peaked, the clients since then are all missing basic stuff like call history and a UI which responds within three seconds. (Oh, some types of video conference call don’t work with 4.2… I don’t use them)

Anyway - they what? That’s utterly ridiculous…

If I thought that call quality etc was unimpaired by using a much earlier client, I’d switch back for sure. I had problems at one point with calls not connecting, which were solved by an update, and since then I’ve assumed this was their unsubtle way of forcing the issue. I’ll give 4.2 a shot.

Yes, most people do use the latest versions of software.

At last, video of the actual PS4 interface… I’m buying a PS4 (and an Xbox One) and I’m looking forward to it, but this doesn’t really compare with what the XO experience will be.

Honestly, this just seems like a suped up - and unfortunately, very laggy - PS3 interface.

Yeah, but were there any ads? :)

It would be too easy for me to say…

…but I don’t want to be “that Guy”.

They obviously didn’t put as much thought into the UI as MS, but yeah-- no ads. At least in the demo.

Agreed. It doesn’t really wow me. I much prefer what I’ve seen of the XBox One UI. But it seems serviceable.

Rumors about that AC4 is going to be the next lower res on XB1 game.

At this point we need a list of games that are the same res on XB1/PS4…it would be a lot shorter.

NBA 2K14 is 1080p/60fps on both systems, and looks pretty amazing compared to the current gen version. It’s almost enough to make me buy either a One or PS4, but I am trying to wait and see until next year.

NFS:Rivals is also 1080p on both, and my choice will likely depend on who else is playing it on what platform. Rumours are all well and good. But I can’t wait for some proper reviews and more in depth looks at the games on both platforms to come out already. It will certainly help me decide what to get on which platform.

Isn’t the NDA for Xbone games up tomorrow (at least COD)?
Should have some answers then hopefully.

I wonder if the NDA ends at midnight and whether most of the big outlets will rush their reviews of then. Because it’s already the 12th here in Japan and I don’t want to wait until tomorrow to see the news or the flame wars.

An awful lot of small business people use Skype 4.2, because tracking your call history is NOT really optional for business calls…

(And apparently they’ve started killing off things like handsets which connected to Skype in their latest version, so my parents are rolling back to 4.2…)

Penny Arcade has this fine endorsement of Kinect Sports: What the hell? Kinect Sports Rivals isn’t terrible!

Also the SkyDrive is kind of neat. I liked the massive photo zooming they showed at 3:30, although I don’t know if it’s really that useful.

Digital Foundry has a look at Dead Rising 3 on Xbox One.

720p (already known), 16-30fps, averaging mid 20’s. Noticeable texture pop in.

They can’t even maintain 30 fps? There’s a point at which you have to say that’s just simply not acceptable for something being touted as a next gen HD experience. I don’t care if its the system or the developers here gamers deserve better than that.
