I try to play without crashing, since I have it on simulation, so most crashes are really bad for my chances of doing well in the rest of the race. But even I can’t avoid all scrapes. It was funny watching my brother play, who basically only likes one racing game: Burnout. So he plays Forza 5 like Burnout, and I was surprised to see the game is quite accommodating to his play style with damage on “cosmetic only” and all the assists turned on so he never has to press the brakes, like in Burnout.

Whatever works for you, just have fun. But to get the most out of the game, I’d recommend slowly turning down the assists and see what you can manage, including the cosmetic only damage, if you think you can turn down the collisions without reducing your fun.

Also, I agree with your Xbox One vs PS4 impressions. I use both daily, and definitely run into more trouble on little things on Xbox, but I’m willing to cut it more slack since it is attempting to do more things.

Basically echoing both of you. Have both systems and ran into more problems with the Xbox One, but ultimately give it more slack. The seamless switching between television, Netflix, Vudu and gaming is something I definitely appreciate about the system - and the occasional flub (usually on voice commands) doesn’t tar that.

That said, I cannot wait until there is an official XboxOne remote

Official Xbox one remote? isn’t that supposed to be the $100 remote that was included in the package?

Spaaaaaartans!

Don’t get me wrong, I like - nay love - the voice commands when they work and they work the vast majority of the time.

But sometimes, primarily for guests, I think a remote is easiest.

13Gb Dead Rising 3 patch anyone?

Now, for those who don’t have the patience to wait for a 13GB patch to finish before stomping some zombie heads, you can choose not to connect the Xbox One to the internet and just play it as is. However, keep in mind you won’t be able to connect to Xbox Live while playing DR3.

So, the patch duplicates much of the existing data and you can’t refuse the patch and remain connected while playing. Tops.

Jesus. You’d think incremental patching would be the norm on the new consoles. Didn’t the 360 do incremental patches?

I believe (but can’t find a source for it) that the XBox One does incremental patches just fine (I’m pretty sure I’ve downloaded incremental patches for some of my games). I believe this patch is linked to the DR3 DLC due to be released soon and updates quite a few of the existing game assets (since, in total, it only adds 1-2GB to the game size). But why exactly it needs to do that for DLC (and what it might fix for people who won’t buy it) is not quite clear at this stage.

Wendelius

Because Capcom.

20 quid off at Zavvi

Here’s a lovely one. My internet connection went down tonight because Time Warner is not a very good company, so I thought I’d pass the time by listening to some music. Turns out, streaming music stored locally on your PC to your Xbox One requires an internet connection. You never know, you might decide at any moment to stop listening to the music you own and subscribe to Xbox Music!

So apparently MS has bought the Gears of War IP off of Epic Games.

Must have been a bargain, 'cause it looks like it came with some free gigahertz, with rumors surfacing that MS is about to lower the Xbone’s GPU reserve for Kinect from 10% to 2%.

Despite having enjoyed all 4 Gears games, I’m not sure that I want the series to continue. I like that fundamental cover based gameplay but I’ve played a lot of it in the Gears universe by this point. Valuing spectacle over cover shootery is what made Gears 2 the weakest of the 4, so I don’t know that “Gears at 1080p with lots more prettiness” is that appealing. Hmm.

I wonder why? Maybe it was cheaper than continuing to pay off exclusivity every iteration?

It looks like Titanfall may not be the blockbuster everybody expected. If so, the xbone is in double jeopardy. It needs a halo-quality exclusive STAT.

The other part of that Gears deal is that Black Tusk is working on it, and the supposed new IP that was shown by them at E3 was in fact never a game.

Microsoft also snagged Rod Fergussen to come work at Black Tusk.

I’m sure they plan on using a lot of the assets and whatnot from that game. It’s not like gears of war has its own distinct aesthetic. It’s space marines and war-torn cityscapes with bug monsters.

They’ve been working on something since 2012, after all, they did have a game, whatever its problems or lack of focus. Black Tusk was supposed to make the xbone’s Halo, its system-selling exclusive.

Interview from today:

Gears of War’s new home, Black Tusk Studios, may come as a surprise to Xbox fans who watched Microsoft’s press conference from E3 2013. It was there where Spencer teased a new project from Black Tusk, a sleek, stealthy action game with no name.

“The thing we showed at E3 last year, it was something that was done in Unreal and more of a concept piece,” Spencer said, calling it “an asset” created by the team to get their creative juices flowing, not necessarily an in-development game.

But, wait! Back when they announced the studio…

“We’re not working on an existing franchise, we’re looking to build the next Halo here in Vancouver, for example, which is really exciting. We are building something from the ground up.”

“We have been officially green-lit by Microsoft executives to go ahead with the project that we’re on,” he said.

Sad trombone.
