But there is no way to mod your xboxone yet, unless they count using a bigger hard drive. You can’t pirate the games yet. Why would they ban him for changing out the drive?

This is how I read this. I was disappointed that it wasn’t this.
It would be super amazing if in-game swearing was somehow picked up by the Kinect, and caused you to get banned from playing that game online. The worst part is I’m not convinced it can’t happen that way.
When I had a red ring of death issue on my 360 a few years ago, I got banned from XBL for a few days for changing my status to “F MS. RRoD FTL” or something like that.

I got effectively banned from XBL a while back because my debit card expired and I didn’t update my details quickly enough. It took six months of messing about on my console and my PC to get it to even accept a new card as a payment option, let alone renew XBL Gold.
The same thing happens (or has happened) on PSN. I had a friend who got in that situation with Sony 2 years ago and it took months to get resolved. She was banned from PSN for the duration of the problem.
Wow, really? I was lucky then, because several years back I deliberately changed my credit card details because I couldn’t find a way of cancelling my gold subscription. It was notoriously difficult to cancel the sub at one point, and even trying to ring Microsoft in the US (at the time there was no Australian number I could find) was fruitless, so I said “F this” and input a spurious number. I got plenty of automated warnings, but my account eventually reverted back to Silver.
