Haha, true that.

Games with Gold now looks a lot like PS+ before the Instant Game Collection. A lot of people forget that service really turned a corner when it went from getting a few games every month to the idea that on day one you sign up and have access to a library or 20 games across 3 platforms. MS is still not replicating that effect.

Yeah, they could also put out a $20 mic array that sits under your TV.

You can talk to your FireTV and that thing only costs $100 total.

Gary Busey told me so. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHoNQrxG_8M

So the original Xbox uses 10% of its power for Kinect related stuff. Does that mean that everyone who buys the new version will have more powerful versions and everyone with the original will have a gimped version? Or will the new ones still be gimped in order to maintain status quo?

What a debacle the Xbox One has become. The 360 did such a great job on improving the original Xbox, how did they fuck this up so badly? Its like they stole a playbook from Nintendo on how to piss away momentum.

Microsoft really hit some home runs there. Xbox One, Windows 8, etc. Both building on well received products and then finding clever and unexpected ways to completely fuck up the following product.

I know. I regret buying my x1

That isn’t really a fair comparison, I mean its not like Nintendo* is making sweeping changes to their console based on what the internet says. In a few months, I fully expect to see an Xbox One: Dogecoin Edition.

* : although if Nintendo understood how the internet even worked, they might.

decides to ramndoly jab at the xbrown one

The XBox 360 is 720p, and the XBox One is 792p.

Its too soon to say this, maybe. Its just that start of the race and both consoles are very similar.

It’s called HUBRIS…
Once Microsoft is comfortably in the lead they start slacking until they get a wake up call again!
Windows ME, Windows Vista, Windows 8.0 for example all followed by far better successors due to massive ass-kicking!

Super great

Sure, the ship has hit an iceberg and is in danger of sinking but so what? We have first class accommodations all to ourselves

I really think this is the difference between J. Allard and Don Matrick. Don never really understood video games/gamers and was seduced by the Wii’s sales numbers early in the Wii lifecycle. The dude is incompetent and stubborn.

Can’t say that comic does much for me, though I can’t say herpes would either.

EARLY ADOPTER FEVER!

I was assured the day one edition was free of bugs.

How would that work for people who have Kinect installed? It just wouldn’t work while that game is running?

Seems like they could have quietly done that before for developers who didnt’ want it already, although I guess it would have broken the uniformity of the control metaphor.

This seems like it will be sort of a shit-show for developers who have to re-do interfaces and stuff for non-kinect users, or strip out what little shoe-horned kinect functionality they were planning. Or not, I guess, since the whole point is nobody was designing around it to begin with.

Is this the completion of the 180?

The same thing happened to Sony (following the success of the PS2) and Nintendo (following the Wii). Seems to be an industry thing…

More or less. I was trying to think of any major initiative or characteristic of the Xbox One that they’ve retained. Aside from still requiring Gold for multiplayer, the box still being black, and Microsoft being the producer, I think they’ve backed down on just about everything else that made them distinctive this generation. I agree it’s early days, but MS has an uphill fight, since their box is still less powerful with slower RAM than the PS4.

There’s a lot of questions around the statements Mehdi and Spencer put out yesterday regarding this potential memory/processing power that they’re implying could be freed up for other uses without Kinect. If it’s true, it could be a boon for developers, but who knows how much of it will actually be useable and what kind of restriction there will be?
