Minecraft has something like two thirds of its current sales on mobile. It belongs in this discussion as much as something like candy crush. My personal take on it if you’re talking about games for either console platform, it’s either AAA, or gtfo.
You’re joking right? Do have any idea of how many copies of Minecraft have sold for 360?
As of April 4, 2014 the Xbox 360 version has sold 12 million copies
People have bought 360’s just for Minecraft. Yet it (and indie) is not relevant to console discussion? Yeah, right.
I’m sorry, I can’t hear you over the sound of these goalposts being dragged across the field.
Diablo III on PC sold vastly better than most (if not all) of your named 360 exclusives. So much for not mattering, eh?
Darn lively zombie platforms.
Seconding the Dance Central franchise. Legitimately awesome, and couldn’t have been done nearly as well without the Kinect. The Wii had the dancing games that attempted it with the players holding the Wiimote, and they were okay, but Dance Central was absolutely superior, and I don’t regret purchasing the Kinect just for the Dance Central games at all.
While it will probably help Microsoft to drop the Kinect, it actually makes me even less likely to ever buy an Xbox One, as I had some vague hope that the kinect/camera/voice commands would offer a cool, unique experience that I felt I had to have.
Now there is almost no chance that anyone will bother developing that experience, so we’re left with a terribly inferior piece of hardware compared to the PS4; an ugly, cumbersome/ad-invested UI; a pattern of making decisions that are antithetical to what customers want until browbeaten into more sensible directions; and no exclusives that I’ve felt I needed ever (unlike the PS3/4, which has had Last of Us and Demon’s Souls, which were two can’t-miss games) – I like Halo and Gears of War enough to spend a bunch of time with them, but I got more play out of PS3 exclusives like Uncharted 2 and Little Big Planet and I’m including none of those games as “can’t miss” games. And the only exclusive Xbox1 has is…Forza? I havent been interested in a racing game since 1983’s Pole Position. It’s truly remarkable to me that Microsoft could manage to create a gaming console that I cannot imagine ever wanting.

Only time will tell, but perhaps they should have kept the Kinect in and just dropped the price to $400 and eaten the loss. My guess is they have a pretty good view of what is (or more to the point, is not) in development for it and made the determination that it was a lost cause.
Guessing the Xbox division is expected to be a consistently profitable business now after all these years. Just eating the losses on a price drop wasn’t an option so out goes Kinect.

I agree with this. The road they went down has a greater chance to alienate the most passionate part of the fanbase, the early adopters.

That list is, by the way, console exclusives for the PS3 and the XBox 360 since 2010 according to Wikipedia.
Someone made a visual version a while ago:
A few inaccuracies, but fairly representative.

Huh, my question on that is that counting PC titles making it non-exclusive? As think that would account for the inflation, due to a larger glut of japanese games, and a horrible track record of porting games from PS3 to the PC. I think that’s important in regards to the people who aren’t like us, and don’t use anything other than a console for video gaming.
It looks to only count exclusives, hence the lack of multiplatform titles (which would probably double the PS3’s non-motion-control stack), and the stack of Kinect titles dwarfing the non-Kinect titles on 360.
I don’t see any in that graphic that made it to PC, unless the MLB: The Show games did. Speaking of which, counting those four times seems like cheating.
No more cheating than counting Dance Central three times, or counting six separate titles between Forza, Gears of War, and Halo.
Outside of “dance” or “workout” games - what is in development for Xbox ONE “kinect only” titles?
