‘No Games’ I want to play.

It’s not “IP”. It’s studies into how to effectively use your game system’s controller!

The only thing not releasing it did was ensure a lot of crappy third party games.

Well if it’s studies they commissioned and paid for, guess what, it absolutely is intellectual property they own.

But yeah, I see your point, not sharing those studies with partners expected to develop successfully for the platform is counterproductive.

I vote to put Teiman in charge of the MS Xbox division.

Seconded! I’d actually buy one then. Not even kidding.

Major Nelson already tried to deflate that rumor. It comes from the podcast and he was speaking personally, not for MS or Xbox at large. I don’t know if he has presented at their conference before, so it could be that, or just a general change to how the Xbox Wire team covers the show. I know PlayStation and Nintendo both run live streams from their booths all show, not sure if MS has in the past. Could be that.

External storage, real names, apps unlocked from Gold, and a bunch of new Smartglass features coming in the June update.

Video with a demo of the external storage

What ya’ll really need is to put DLNA TV support, or at the very least, Windows Media Extender back in. It’s weird that I’m using my 360 so much right now, because it can use Windows Media Extender to connect to my PC and access my networked TV tuners. I can watch live and recorded TV, even if my PC is using Windows Media Center to watch a different channel.

Meanwhile, my Xbox One is sitting next to the 360, completely useless in this regard.

From what I heard, must be USB 3 and greater than ~250gb. Still a step in the right direction if an off-the-shelf drive can provide Xbone storage.

Now all xbone needs is to either close the performance gap or lower the price below ps4. Then they will finally be competitive.

Yep. I picked up a 2TB Toshiba external 2.5" USB 3 drive for $95. That should last a while.

June #XboxOne software dev kit gives devs access to more GPU bandwidth. More performance, new tools and flexibility to make games better

I wonder how much more GPU bandwidth has been freed up?

New update is live. Games with Gold, Deals, USB external storage, real names, and some other minor stuff (rearrange your pins using Smartglass, for instance).

Hey, Denny, how required are those controller updates? I plugged mine into my One with the headset attached, and updated it through the settings menu.

I gotta imagine there’s a huge percentage of One owners who aren’t updating their controllers. What are in the updates?

Think its the ~10% that was reserved for Kinect.

Woolen, I don’t know the full technical details, but from what I’ve seen in the public update communication, the updates are most necessary for folks who have the headphone adapter or the MS headphones. The first update adds support for it, and i think the follow-ons mostly tweak the audio quality. Basically, I think it boils down to, if your controller/headphones are working okay, no need to worry about it.

PC drivers for Xbox One controller are now live!

The new PC drivers will enable the Xbox One controller to be used with any game that featured gamepad support for the Xbox 360 controller. Simply download the drivers, connect your Xbox One controller to your computer through a micro USB cable and you’ll be gaming in no time.

I take it we can’t use our old wireless dongles though?

I don’t think so. The Xbox One controllers are Wi-Fi Direct. We’ll have to wait and see if they release a dongle for the PC.
