DLNA support is now in for those in the test group. It works fine for me.

Awesome, I can finally get rid of the Western Digital media box I have plugged into the tv input.

Is Live Gold still required for multiplayer, or did they finally make that free? I know Netflix and such no longer require Gold.

Gold is still required for multiplayer. And with Sony requiring PS+ for multiplayer on PS4, there’s little pressure left for them to change that. But at least competition from Sony has made it so that you do get free games with your Gold subscription every month.

How are they free if you have to pay to get them? :-)

So, the free game + $50 sale, rendering the effective price $300, and the Destiny thread prompted me to order an XBox One. Damn you, forum effect.

The funny thing is, I was sure I’d buy a PS4, or a PS4 first anyway, this time around. Microsoft so thoroughly screwed up the launch, plus they priced their console $100 more. Now it’s $100 cheaper than the PS4. The title selection for either console is pretty meager right now, but when I filter for my interests, it’s slightly better for the XBox. Not much better, but a little better.

If multiplayer was still free for PS4, or if there were a new Ratchet & Clank or something similar exclusive to the PS4 right now, it could easily have gone the other way.

So Xbox Live Gold subscribers, don’t forget to pick up Halo Reach before the end of the month on the 360.

Next month’s free Games with Gold games have been announced. A new game called Chariot for the Xbox 1, and Bad Company 2 and Darksiders 2 for the 360.

Underwhelmed, but given the high number of 360 games I have, some “already have that” picks were inevitable.

Might be a good time to play some BC2 multiplayer, though. I was actually able to do some Dead Rising 2 multiplayer when it was on sale a while back.

Yeah, that could be fun as BC2 was the pinnacle of Battlefield on console for me. But unfortunately, or fortunately, October is packed with games I want to play so I doubt I’ll have the time.

I really loved the two Darksiders games. Not even my type of game, normally, but I thought both were extremely well done and worth AAA title price.

US Gamer’s Forza Horizon 2 review:

Forza Horizon 2 Xbox One Review: One of the All-Time Great Racers

Playground Games’ open-world racer starts out feeling like an Abercrombie and Fitch cross-promotion, but quickly evolves into an Xbox One killer app. You like to race? You need this.

All pre-loaded and ready to go here. I just wish it was coming tomorrow, instead of having to wait until Tuesday.

Try waiting until Friday.

I hate European release dates.

I think Friday release dates are an excellent idea. Trying to stay up past my Ambien on a school night sucks.

I don’t care which day it is, I just wish they were the same. Supposedly Friday release day in Europe is a bricks and mortar retail driven thing, which makes it even more annoying that it also happens quite often for download-only games or PC-only games, which have minimal retail presence (in the UK at least - I guess it’s less true in Germany and eastern Europe).

They still sell PC games in stores?

The Sims and Blizzard games, yes.

Don’t forget Bejeweled!

Not sure I’ve ever seen Bejeweled in Game, but maybe.

And now the Xbox comes into its own as a real home theater device.

I looked that up and I still don’t quite see the appeal. What exactly is the improvement from running Plex on my Diskstation to stream content to my XBone, versus using the Diskstation’s native DLNA support? I gather the XBone didn’t stream properly until recently, but the 360 did.
