That’s more space than I currently have available on my hard drive. Not that it was an urgent purchase for me anyway, but what a way to screw over your disc buyers so you could save money by not including a second BR in the package. Boo, MS, boo.

It’s too bad that the One has no music apps. Microsoft Music or whatever it’s called has no interest for me, I’d love to get a Spotify or Pandora app. The best they did with the 360 is IHeartRadio, which sucks.

In my book the One will never be a complete living room center without music apps. Too bad.

A workaround is to use IE to navigate to the respective page of the music streaming service, but that’s poor substitute and to be honest I never remember I can do that because I never surf the web on the One.

Don’t you need to fully install everything to the hard drive anyway? You’d need that free space on your HDD regardless of whether you purchase it digitally or if it came on 2 discs.

FYI the 20GB download has all the multiplayer stuff, so if all you care about are the campaigns, you don’t need to download it.

On the hard drive space thing, the USB 3.0 support is a wonderful thing. One $70 2.5" bus-powered 2TB USB 3 drive and I have a couple of dozen digital games installed with tons of space left over. And if I fill that up in a year or two and don’t want to delete old games, I can just plug in a second drive.

That’s on the list, but I’m at the point where my next big game (45gig left) will soon have an incremental cost that includes an external drive. I think I can get away with Sunset Overdrive, but maybe not Far Cry 4 without uninstalling or expanding.

And that will be a shame.

So what’s the absolute prettiest game on the console right now? What do I buy to show off the graphics?

The orc captain close-ups in Shadow of Mordor were pretty good, but I want to blow people away with graphics. What’s the best game, graphics wise?

I haven’t played it, but Ryse seems to be super-pretty, and it also sounds like it’s more fun than most people expected it to be.

ElGuapo, I would tailor it to that person’s interests. Showing Forza or Ryse to someone who only cares about first person shooters probably won’t make much of an impact. If all things are equal, I would wait for Sunset Overdrive and the new Assassin’s Creed game. They are both gorgeous.

I made this move and love it. I also find that games load faster.

Currently playing Watch Dogs, and it is a good looking game on the XB1, much better looking than the 360 version. Lots of detail and depth to the city. Destiny is a looker, too.

Dead Rising 3 is nice as well, but a lot of what they spend their processor and graphics on is the draw distance and the number of on-screen NPCs. Bunches and bunches of zombies. Even Lego Marvel is all shiny.

But as far as I can tell, almost all of the new-gen games look pretty close to what they would on a decent PC. I think there’s a lot of headroom that hasn’t been used yet, given that most of the current games were also last-gen or 32-bit PC releases. Now that Ryse is on PC I don’t think anything other than the Forza games are XB1 exclusive.

Probably Destiny.

Really? I don’t feel like Destiny is all that amazing looking. It does look good, but amazing?

Destiny looks beautiful, and then you see the Xbox 360 or PS3 version and you realize that they’re also beautiful, and it’s more down to the art direction than console horsepower.

Can someone sell me on an xbox. I love my 360, but the ps4 is looking awfully tempting.

Look at the exclusives; if you want to play a title only available on a platform, there’s your choice. Otherwise, default choice should be to buy a PS4.

Also, if the majority of your friends chose a platform, obviously choose the same one.

Both of the next gen systems are nice, and the ps4 does have a slight edge in horsepower. However, Destiny looks the same on them as far as I can see. You’d really have to put cross platform games right next to each other to tell a difference. Look on Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry site to see some comparisons if you think that’s something important to you. The last few ownership stats I’ve seen are 60/40 ps4 to Xbone and you would probably find more QT3 players on ps4 for Destiny multiplayer.

Right now I’ve been playing the Xbone more often because I like achievements better than trophies and it happens to be the system I bought SoM and Watch Dogs on. That, and Zen Pinball 2 now allows 360 tables to be used on the XB1.

Plus when I’m playing Destiny, and getting my ass beat down by playing by myself doing the Weekly Strike, I can catch up on TV shows at the same time by snapping Hulu Plus on the right side of the screen. I watched the first three episodes of this season of Agents of SHIELD like that. Still not a great show, but much better than this point last season, when I gave up on the show.

So yeah, I love the Xbox One for multitasking because of that. It’s true, I could be listening to the Dinklage-bot go one for the hundredth time about he’s almost got the door open, but I’m not missing much by turning the game audio down a bit.

I fucking love that feature.

If media capabilities are of any concern to you, definitely go Xbox. In general, the Xbox system software and platform is evolving much more quickly than that on the PS4, thanks to the OS separation between games and apps.

Otherwise, yeah, it mostly boils down to exclusives you’re interested in.

I also love how you can seamlessly switch between TV and your game (or any other app), without having to use any remote controllers. It’s so fast. And the media capabilities in general combined with the instant on/fast resume features are great. I haven’t even used my Apple TV since I got my Xbox One in early September, and previously I used that thing daily because the Xbox 360 sucks in that regard.

But, yeah, what others have said, the most important factors are the exclusives and what system your friends have.

As others have said, consider game exclusives/where your friends are investing. The other factor I would throw in there is for you to consider if the exclusive features for the Xbox One appeal to you.

I own both the PS4 and the Xbox One and very much appreciate the tv integration, true multitasking and snap features of the Xbox. Switching between gaming, tv and Netflix/Hulu/Vudu is seamless and better reflects how I want a next gen console to behave today.
