I think Gus and Alan are actually pod people. Beware, people of Earth. The invasion has begun!
I remember Beneath A Steel Sky on Amiga came on 15 floppies.
Heh, you must not have played adventure games back in the day.
Kings Quest V was 13 5.25 floppies, and I’d be surprised if there wasn’t some Sierra game on 5.25 that had more.
Yeah I wasn’t heavily into Sierra adventure games. By the time I had gotten to them at any point they were already being moved over to CDs.

It is amusing how near every big game launch lately, my friends list stop working on Xbox Live. And it must have taken a big hit today. Dragon Age, GTA V, Far Cry 4, the big new Destiny patch, all coming out around the same time. No friends list today!
I’m not of fan of the UI but saying, “xbox on” and having everything, including my stereo, power up is pretty freaking sweet
I pick up my remote and hit one button, and everything powers on, including the TV and AV receiver. The extra $100 for Kinect wasn’t worth it to me for the voice commands.
Agreed but for but I use it for other things as well and I got it for next to nothing.
I’d tend to echo that… I bought the Kinect version so that I could have something to do with the kiddo in the winter that would get him up and moving (and maybe me too).
The discovery that I can have the XBox control my AV system with my voice, reliably (well, as soon as I hook my AV Receiver up to actually be the sound source, since currently “XBox, Volume Down” makes it adjust the volume on the tuner, even though the volume is actually from the TV speakers) is just a friggin’ cool bonus. Particularly when the motion control stuff works so crappily for the same thing.
Makes me actually want to hook my TV up to it. Alas, the actual cable box is on the upstairs TV.

Yeah, I do agree Woolen Horde, the PS4 is probably in the same boat as far as big titles being released. It sort of brings home the point when some of the ‘big’ releases are just re-releases of last gen’s hit games. (Halo Collection the remastered Last Of Us, GTA XVIII) But I guess it’s just rose-colored glasses, or last time I was smart enough to pick one up later. Or maybe it’s because Geometry Wars was so awesome I forgot I had nothing else to play.
The Kinect, my favorite is Xbox, Pause. I don’t have to look for the remote, or power up the controller. Is it worth the extra money? Probably not. But that’s all just voice. The other nice camera features are the QR code for game redemption. I fucking hate typing in SKJ3-JEJ3-KDD-etc; I just hold up the card to the camera and BAM, game redeemed and downloading. Oh, and the auto-login is kind of neat…if it worked reliably, except that I tend to sit too far away from the camera for it to work.

Auto login usually works great for me. In the beginning I had to train it to log me in by picking “I wasn’t recognized” whenever I did it in different lighting conditions. With glasses, sometimes without glasses. Wearing a shirt and tie one time, sometimes not wearing any pants. Now it recognizes all variants of me.
I’m worried about this continuing, though. There was no scannable portion on the pack-in game codes for my AC Bundle with Kinect, for example. Probably because those same cards came in the non-Kinect bundle, and they figured there’d be a higher number of those. (Which is exactly backwards! Include the QR code to tell folks “For only $100 you wouldn’t have to type in these annoying codes!” The death of 1000 cuts method of promoting Kinect.)
That’s actually Microsoft’s effort to friendly up the whole online game space. Shame you circumvented it! ;)

All the codes I’ve got with games (extra stuff in Wolfenstein and Sunset Overdrive) have had both QR and code to type in.
Yeah, both AC cards that came with the Unity bundle noticeably did not (I was looking for them to show my roommate how the QR codes worked and… oh, wait, it didn’t have any). I’m wondering however if they didn’t have them because they were in the bundle that didn’t include the Kinect.

Bundles are working, I guess.

It will be interesting to see the NPD numbers for November.
I think I saw that EA was also saying their numbers are getting much, much better.
HBO GO is now available in the app store (yes you still need a content provider like Xfinity, at least for now).
Couple of smaller indie and party-style games in the store this week. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is also available in Gold for $20.

It’s weird when people get so up in arms about “OMFG SHIPPED NOT SOLD”.
Why would retailers continue buying a shitload a consoles from Microsoft if they weren’t selling through the stock they already had?
HumanTon

Because the company encourages the retailer to buy in more by giving them money (by, for example, buying end caps/shelf space.)
Yeah, makes no real sense, because that’s serious inventory space that costs a good amount of money.
Of course, one doesn’t directly lead to the other, but it’s a strong correlation. Retailers do overstock especially in certain locations, but still…
