The Xbox One streaming feature is a novelty item. This is what it looks like:

That’s worth about 5 minutes of “Wow!” before you realize it’s a super-shitty way to try to play a game.
A virtual room with a videogame playing on a 2D screen?! Are you f*cking kidding me?!
It gives you a screen the size of your wall. That’s pretty cool.
Certainly not worth purchasing a $1500 VR headset to do it, but if you own a Rift anyway, why not?
This is more augmented reality than VR, and fits better with Microsoft’s Hololens, but that’s much further out.
Have you ever tried playing Doodle Jump in a moving car?
Did you not notice how far away she is sitting in the virtual room? The effective size of the screen is no larger than a reasonably sized monitor at normal viewing distance - but with much, much fewer pixels.
Certainly not worth purchasing a $1500 VR headset to do it, but if you own a Rift anyway, why not?
Because my TV is 1080p and that screen isn’t. Unless you position your virtual self perfectly. And it introduces a bunch of overhead and possible latency for no good reason.
There is an added feature where you can turn your head and see an angry virtual life partner if you play for too long. Berating voice support is DLC.
Like I said, it’s just a novelty. No one in their right mind is going to actually use this feature for anything other than showing off to friends.
“Check this out! Cool huh?”
LOL!
Endless possibilities. Very meta.
Maybe this would be kind of fun for family photos or some other static viewing experience. (Cut to a couch with parents and two young kids, all wearing Oculus Rifts, sharing magical moments “together”.)
Much as I’m excited about VR headsets, I am scared to death of this technology. I fully anticipate being on my deathbed surrounded by loved ones passing the time with their space-helmets and me being VERY HAPPY TO DIE AND LEAVE THEM TO IT.
You can already get headsets you put your phone into, along with specialized bi-focal 3D apps for a budget VR experience.

A shitload of work went into that site.
Oh, yes. There are versions for different phones.

I think it’s just an extension of the ability of streaming Xbox to Windows 10. As you say, you won’t be using it normally, except in very edge cases.
Of course, it’s easy target as feature…
Is anyone in the Xbox One preview program? If so, I would love an invite. Gamertag is: “Mr Stone”
Very excited about backwards compatibility!

Same, invite to Kadath please!
Why are you guys even watching this conference? There are probably kids out on your lawn right now.
Would love to get into the preview program too please. I’d passed until now. But I wouldn’t mind going back to some of those games.
Wendelius (same name on Live)
Guys, the preview program is open to all AFAIK. You need to download the app onto your XBO and go through registration.
