I’ve been comparing the PS4 media player with the Xbox One and the Plex app.
Out of the 30 or so movie files on my PC that I could test on, I chose 10 at random, and wrote them down. They all work with the Plex App on both X1 and PS4. But Plex is costing me $5 a month to use since it launched on X1 quite a few months ago, so I’d like to save that money.
When I tried the same 10 files on X1’s media player, only 6 of them played, the other four didn’t play.
Then trying the same 10 files on PS4’s media player, only 3 of them played, the other seven didn’t play.
So as of right now, I’m keeping Plex. But if the X1 or PS4 media players can get something like 9 out of 10, then I’ll get rid of my Plex subscription.

Plex on Xbox One doesn’t play music, which is mostly what I stream. Music was supposed to be added “soon”, but the app was released quite a while ago (seems like at least a year), so I’m not interested in paying the high fee for full access to the Xbone beta. Plex does stream music to my tablet and phone very well for free, though.
The Xbox Media player plays music just fine. And you can even sort by Album Artist, which is nice if you have lots of music collections album in your library like I do. But yes, you do have to keep it snapped to the side. Once you un-snap, the music goes away, sadly. But it’s still a million times better than what they had at launch (having to start Xbox Music on the X1, go to your PC and select a playlist, and then “play to” the Xbox, then go back to X1).
The feature from the 360 that I miss the most is the default control feature. On the 360 you set it once that you like playing games with inverted controls. That’s it. Just that one time. Then every game has inverted controls. You set it once that you like using Right Trigger for acceleration and Left Trigger for brakes. From then on, every game except Mercenaries 2 will let you play in a vehicle with that scheme.
I fired up the Gears of War Ultimate beta today, and sure enough, suddenly I find myself looking at the ceiling in my first multiplayer game. Sigh. Gotta go into the controls and reverse to inverse look. God, it’s like playing on the PC or PS3/PS4. How could you, Microsoft? How could you get rid of one of your best ease-of-use features?

It has. I notice it’s going to be an XB1 native soon in the $30 for 30 games Rare Replay collection. The art direction and gameplay have aged well. The controls do take some getting used to. Though this time I’m trying it on Hard difficulty for the first time, and gosh, it really feels way too hard.

That deal is really good, I would be convinced to get it. But I can’t find anyone honoring it in Canada. Does anyone know who is honoring it for Canadians?

Our deals are arguably better with the crap dollar. I posted the best I could find here. Controllers on sale at the Source. Live had a great price at Costco, but that might be over now.

No messages, and a friend on HTF has also invited me, so that’s at least two invites with nothing showing. Is it possible I was invited in the past and didn’t accept? How would I find that out and get a new way to accept?
Edit: Going to the private invite group page per the FAQ shows “Group Not Found
The requested Group cannot be found.” so I guess I didn’t miss it, & still haven’t been selected.

They are probably flooded with newly interested previewers.
I notice that either 360 games no longer show up in my friends’ playlists, or they lost interest quickly.
Until then, you can try the other trick linked above Kadath. Go into my profile and look at Super Meat Boy or Geometry Wars or N+ or Kameo or Toy Soldiers from my recently played games list, and download whichever one of those you own and try it out. It seems to work for people.
So anybody biting on Xbox’s early access type service ‘Game Preview’? Elite is available for $30.99.

Seems to be region locked, so I can’t buy it. :(
And no 360 games are shown on my friends’ playlist, even though at least Rock8man has been playing some of them. Weird.
I believe Microsoft closed the loophole with playing 360 games on a friend’s list. I’ve read other reports of the games not appearing anymore.
So we need to join the preview or wait for Autumn to play them.

PS: If anyone has a preview invite to share, that would be much appreciated. I just added a 1TB external drive and now have the free space to start redownloading some of the 360 games.
I picked up the father’s day special from Walmart; I really enjoyed Witcher 2 so I have been looking forward to Witcher 3.
