So I finally got properly enrolled into the preview. I tried out n+, perfect dark (that game has aged horribly but my kids got a good laugh for the 10 min I tried it), super meat boy, and geometry wars. Yup, feels identical to the xbox 360. So far it seems like a very solid and accurate emulator.
One thing I couldn’t figure out is how do you get to the xbox 360 dashboard? I remember seeing it in the e3 videos. Also, how are saves handled? Is it just cloud or does it also create virtual emulated local storage?
Press start and back (I always forget what they are called on the Xbox One) at the same time and you’ll get that 360 overlay (not the actual dash). And, yeah, it’s using cloud saves so if you login to your 360 console, you can upload saves to the cloud from there (if you haven’t already).
Oh wow, I did not realize that cloud saves could be moved between the 360 and Xbone. That’s pretty awesome.

Nah, PDZ was crap on release, too.
In the future, everything will have a fresh coat of polyurethane varnish.

I just did a couple of quick tests. Mass Effect worked fine, as all the saves carried over, but with Super Meat Boy it seemed to ignore its cloud save for some reason, and I had to start from scratch again.
One strange thing I noticed while browsing through my saves on the 360 was that very few XBLA games had saves at all. For example, I wanted to test Toy Soldiers but there was no save on my HDD (just the game and its DLC). Is this correct?
It probably just stores what mission you’re on in your profile. Each game you play on the 360 gets a set amount of memory on your profile. So different games used that profile memory to store things like that. For example I lost my save on Call of Duty Modern Warfare, but they stored which missions I had unlocked on my profile so I just restarted from the last mission I was on. No big loss. Contrast that with the PS4, where I lost my CoD save, and it didn’t have a cloud backup either, and I had to start over.

I added you as a friend… but I dont see your invite to the preview program??
You’ll need to wait for the Xbox Live message from Microsoft (see post #6322).
The invite gets your gamertag sent to someone at Microsoft, and you get a message from Microsoft offering you an invite soon hopefully.

And the invite goes to your friends tab, not your messages
Messages are in the friends tab/app. You’re thinking of notifications which are something completely different.
So I tried Toy Soldiers, and Rock8man was right, it knew my campaign progress even though there was no save file.
I also wanted to confirm that in order to play the disc copy of Kameo, it downloaded the whole thing from the net, and then played, but it only plays if you have the disc in the drive. I know there were some questions about that around E3, so I wanted to confirm that you do need the disc even after having the whole game on the hard drive.
Whelp. I broke down and picked up an Xbone today. Went to the MS store at the local mall, grabbed the 500gb/master chief/$50 gift card/Witcher 3 deal. Just too good to pass up.
Already grabbed Massive Chalice for free (sounds neat), and thinking about using the $50 to get in on Elite. Also, I bought the digital edition of Destiny for the 360 during the sale at Xmas, so I can upgrade that, too.
So, hey, big stack of games already, and I’ve just unpacked it. Neat.
So, anyone want to get me in on the preview program? Gamertag is Don Quixote.
Done. Now you’ll just, as explained above, have to wait for the message with the preview app download link.
Well heck, if people are providing, I’ll try it. I assume preview is typically stable? Gamertag is eemyel.
