Thanks for the invite Brakara. I finally got it and I installed the Preview Dashbaord App.
After reading the FAQ and playing around with the app… how do I install my old Xbox 360 games (digital, I sold all my old disc games) on my Xbox One?
For me, while I could install the preview app, I was still waiting on approval for the update. So I went to work that day. When I got home, I had approval and the app had been updated. Now I could select Quests and do the quest for selecting backwards compatible 360 games. Remember the selection is pretty barebones right now as they roll it out. So my initial choices were just Toy Soldiers 1, 2, Geometry Wars, N++, Super Meat Boy, and a few others. When you install your first one, there’s a long period where you’re downloading your 360 profile, basically. It’s a one time only thing, all the other installs are quick.
Yeah, it’s unfortunately not that simple as just getting the app. First, after someone invites you, you’ll have to wait to get access to the app. Then you’ll have to register through the app and wait for the registration to be approved (the status is set to pending while you wait). And finally when the registration is approved, you’ll get the update, and you’re in the program. Each step can take several days (I think it took me around 5 days all in all).
Would love an invite if anyone’s willing: copeknight.
For what it’s worth, I got the console Saturday and Brakara invited me, I got my invite a day later (last night). I still haven’t gotten the update to actually let me in, though. Seems like the process is pretty quick now.
So far really enjoying Witcher 3.
My family used the 360 (which I replaced) almost every day for Xbox Music, we have a music pass. The kids love the music videos, we made them a fun playlist. And my wife and I used it for playing music when doing dishes, etc.
Xbox music on the One, though, does not work. It barely plays a song or two before it simply stops streaming. Does anyone else use Xbox music with the music pass?
Would love an invite too: gamertag: Douglas J
Hoping maybe the upgrade would fix Xbox music as the idea of working through this issue with MS Support is intimidating.
I haven’t even started W3 yet, and that’s ostensibly what I bought the console for. Played some upgraded Destiny, but mostly I’ve been playing Elite. Just barely scratching the surface on that one, but man, it’s bringing back memories of playing the original on my Commodore.
I got home tonight and there was an update to the preview waiting for me. So, something like 48 hours from invite to using it. Cool. Tried out the ‘cast a screen’ app with my Android tablet and phone. Pretty neat. Left digging out Mass Effect or Viva Pinata to activate backwards compatibility for another day.
Other observations about the console after a couple days: the interface is indeed a mess, and that’s coming from someone who likes win 8.1, metro apps and all. Figuring out how to properly snap stuff, etc. is a pain- it might be better with Kinect, but I’ll never try that. No sorting options in the store? What the hell? The media player app is barely usable, and the requirement to snap it to keep it active is terrible- it letterboxes Elite, rendering the already-small type nigh unreadable (I ‘only’ have a 37" tv). All I want is to turn on the “Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1” while I fly around being a space smuggler. Is that too much to ask?
I’ve heard rumors that once the new Windows 10 interface hits, we’ll be able to finally listen to music without snapping the media player to the side.
And yeah, snap mode does make the game go into letterbox mode, to keep the same aspect ratio as full screen. It works great for some games. Forza Horizon 2, Destiny, and others. I wouldn’t have nearly the amount of hours in Destiny if I couldn’t also watch TV at the same time. Fire up some Destiny, and snap last night’s episodes of Daily Show and Colbert on Hulu Plus to one side. That’s how I spent a lot of my 2014.
The snap interface is much easier with voice recognition from the Kinect sensor. But I’ve gotten used to doing it quickly using the double-tap on the Xbox Button too.
I’ll have to try out Elite on the Xbox One. I’ve already played it a lot on the PC, but once I’m done with Witcher 3 by the end of summer, I think I’ll be ready to get back into Elite.

Easily achievable on a tablet, surely, without taking up TV screen space/resolution.
I gave that a try. It’s not the same. Same as if Don Quixote was playing Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix Vol. 1 on a tablet or phone while he played Elite. It’s not as good as having it pipe through the same speakers.
Plus when you’re watching TV/playing Forza, you can pause the game and make the TV big screen when something interesting happens there, or pause the TV and make the game full screen when something critical happens there. Back and forth very easily, and it suspends the other half seamlessly without having to pause it manually and all that. It’s just a really nice way to multitask instead of having to use two devices at once.

Anyone have any game or app suggestions or stuff to try or do?
I’ve been playing a bunch of Sunset Overdrive lately and it’s a blast - a mix of Ratchet and Clank with Crackdown. I recommend it highly.

Today’s your last chance at a free download. Tomorrow it’s AC IV and an indie I can’t remember.

The indie is July 16th.
Personally, I think EA Access is great value. But YMMV as it all depends on if you care about EA games. But they just put Titanfall in the vault (and the season pass is free), and Dragon Age: Inquisition is coming soon. There’s also Battlefield 4, Peggle 2 and Plants vs Zombies: GW, as well as some other games I don’t remember at the moment. In addition, you get to play their new games a few days before release for free (I saved a lot of money just by trying out BF:Hardline that way), and all their games are 10% off if you decide to purchase them.

Yeah I grabbed that today as it is last day.
Well, as I mentioned above, I’m enjoying Elite. It is still a Beta, though- I’ve had it lock up several times in the last day. Comes back more-or-less exactly where it crashed, though so there’s that.
The cast-a-screen app doesn’t work snapped. :(
I’ve been holding off on Elite waiting for it to come to Xbox. I see it’s in preview at $30.99 right now, if I buy it at this price will I get the full game when it’s released?
