The Plex app for Xbox One got updated. It now streams music as well as videos, so this is the update I’ve been waiting about a year for. It’s roughly one zillion to the quadrillionth power faster than the Xbox One’s DNLA streaming app for navigating a large collection, and the interface looks and feels very nice. Unfortunately, it only sorts by artist and not album. Given the speed of Plex updates, we can probably look forward to sorting by album in 2017 or so. So close, yet so far.

I finally picked up an Xbox One last month. I’ve had a PS4 and Wii U since launch, as well as have a high-end PC. I figured I could skip the Xbox this generation because most of the exclusives would make their way to PC, but after salivating over Halo: MCC and Sunset Overdrive for quite a while I decided to abandon that endeavor.
I like the UI quite a bit. If you pin your most regularly accessed games/apps/places to the home screen it’s simple to navigate. I’m not being bombarded by ads like on the Xbox 360 and I enjoy the tiled layout more than the linear layout of the PS4. Having the last app/program remain in a window on the main screen is really cool. I haven’t played around with pinning windows too much, but I can see myself keeping my friends list pinned up on the home screen (if that’s even an option). In a lot of ways, the Xbox One feels like a modern machine vs. the PS4 which feels stuck in the last generation - in terms of the interface and usability. Performance-wise they’re both shamefully outclassed by my PC, so that debate is irrelevant to me.

I forgot to say that what truly pushed me towards a purchasing decision was an incredibly fun night of playing Just Dance at a friend’s house. That game can turn any dull gathering into a party…
Just Dance, or Dance Central? Either way, I agree. I had Dance Central on the 360—only thing I ever used the original Kinect for—and I’ve still got a few friends who mention wanting to play it again some time.
Well… It’s all about to change. This is what it will look like, more or less, according to the Fall Update previews.

So, since stusser convinved me to wait a bit to purchase a new laptop for gaming, I’m seriously considering getting an Xbox one. The three games I have my eyes set on, are Neverwinter, State of Decay Year One and Elite: Dangerous in its early access form on Xbox. My currrent laptop is struggling with Elite, so this is a good way to play, and I LOVE couch gaming.
Are there any other interesting games on the Xbox I may have missed, that isn’t available on the PS4? thanks!

There’s also Ori and the Blind Forest, Smite and Sunset Overdrive that’s worth checking out. And there’s some interesting games being released later this year as well (some sooner than later): World of Tanks, Rare Replay (30 games for $30), Gears of War: UE, Forza 6, Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Rider. I’m just mentioning it, because I’ll be buying more exclusives the next 4 months than in the preceding 12.

Ah, Smite sounds slightly interesting yes. I’m thinking of getting the Master Chief collection. Having only ever played the very first Halo game, I’m kinda looking forward to that. Is the MP anything worth pursuing?
OH - does anyone know if the preview program, where one can purchase Elite is something Europeans are eligible for?

The preview program is supposed to be for everyone, but the publishers decide where their games are available. So Elite: Dangerous is for example for some inexplicably reason not available in Scandinavia yet (and only Frontier knows why).

Ah, too bad! I guess it will come eventually - thanks for the heads-up though!

I hope Scalebound turns out to be decent, I blew my $50 Microsoft free gift card on it.

So, bought my Xbox One, got Forza with it, and am ready!! Would anyone be kind enough to invite me to the preview program? For those of you that don’t have me as friend, I’m razgondk - thanks a lot!
Now…what the heck to do!
I’ll try to add you later today.
And check out this week’s sale for a starter (Halo:MCC, among others, is 33-40% off):
Isn’t that a bit early to blow money on it (even “free”)? I mean, there’s been no gameplay videos and it’s probably at least a year away.
I’m very tempted by Ori & the Blind Forest, even though it’s only on a very modest sale right now, and I have no time for it between Witcher 3 and DiRT Rally. Tempted by that, and the Preview version of Elite, even though I’ve been playing that on the PC since launch. The trailer I saw for Close Quarters Combat (CQC) for the consoles looks really good. The only thing I’m afraid of on that front is that I’ll hate flying Elite using a controller when I’m so used to a joystick and keyboard.
P.S. Razgon and Ridah: Congrats on the purchase! I’ve really loved my XB1 so far. I also agree with Ridah that I like the interface a lot, and I hope the new changes coming don’t screw it up. With the current interface, everything I need, including some active games I’m playing, and some TV shows I watch on Hulu Plus, all get pinned to the left side from the main screen. It’s all very nice and convenient in the current interface.

A few things now that I’ve tried it. How do I stop a download? I bought AC:Pirates but don’t really want to download it - its been queued though. Any way to switch around what games to download first?
Also, whenever I use B to go back, it always seems to jump two jumps instead of one, back?
Thanks Braka - I look forward to that :-)
Rock - Sadly, the tv thingie doesn’t really work in Denmark, so nothing really supports it I’ve been told. Also, you have to use the tv ALL The time through the xbox one, correct? As in, I can’t use my tv normally afterwards as I understand it?
oh . and how do I close a game /app?
To close a game/app, press the Xbox button to go the dashboard (which makes the app smaller). With the app still highlighted, press Menu (the new Start Button), and then chose the appropriate option from there.
Same with games that have been queued, to get more options on stopping a particular download, and moving something to the head of the queue, press the Menu button on it and you should see some appropriate options.
When I’m doing TV, yeah, the TV goes through ‘HDMI In’ on the Xbox all the time, if you want to take advantage of snapping TV or using the Xbox Guide for it. I’m not sure if that is properly supported in Denmark yet, the guide which shows what’s on which channel. Hulu Plus plays great when snapped to the side, Netflix does not. HBO Go kind of does, but you have to trick it. You can start a show in HBO Go full screen, and then even though it says it doesn’t support snap mode, if you play a game, and then snap HBO Go, it will keep playing that show you were watching. But when that show finishes, you have to go fullscreen on HBO Go to change the show since it doesn’t officially supported being snapped to the side.
