The Sims 3 comes up short even held to the standards of plain vanilla Sims 2. There are fewer customization options for Sims and buildings, and overall it’s a much more limiting toolset. My girlfriend only played Sims 3 for a couple days before going back to Sims 2, because Sims 2 lets her modify stuff the way she wants. The complaint isn’t just about Sims 3 lacking the expansion content of Sims 2 (although I do consider the “start all over and give us money every six months” aspect to be pretty shady), it’s about Sims 3 actually offering less player control over the experience than the previous game did when it came out 8 years ago.

The original post was:

Which isn’t anything remotely what I wrote. I made no pledge to not post in this thread.

As for the music, how do you know I wasn’t tricked finally by Rocket8man?

The truth is I forgot about the music and thought I wasn’t watching ZeroP because it wasn’t funny anymore. Now I have two reasons to not watch it.

I think it’s crazy that Yahtzee would have the same complaints as just about everyone else! That guy’s such a phony baloney jerk!

…and countless reasons not to post in this thread.

I’m a heavy Sims player and I can only think of the inability to create new towns as something lacking. Everything else has more modifications out of the box than Sims 2. I know the create a sims in Sims 3 out does even Sims 2 with all the expansions. Do you remember a specific example? I’ll admit Sims is a huge game and I’ve spent more time making Sims and houses than playing it so far.

It in no way outdoes Sims 2’s create-a-sim. It has considerably fewer slider options, such as neck sliders, for one, which makes the sim face slider options pretty much useless, as you need to have the chin be no less than a certain length and the jaw be no less than a certain width, other wise you end up with what looks like a balloon on a bucket. About half the nose and eye slider options are missing, as well.

It may be a nitpick, but when they’re claiming “SO MANY OPTIONS! CUSTOMIZE EVERYTHING! MAKE ANYONE!” there should not be the subtitle of “But only make certain people well.”

Also, more modifications? Have you even looked at the hair and clothing options? I think you need to go back and take a look at Sims 2.

I wasn’t really calling you a liar when I brought your historical position on ZP into the picture. I just thought it was a good thing to remind you of what you said originally in the desperate hope that you would fall back on that position and never again seek to explain what is funny or “good reviewing” in this particular thread. You might as well be critiquing something written in a language you don’t speak.

Also, I thought it would be useful for anyone trying to understand your position on this as it so clearly shows the quality of your standards.

Matt, lot of questions and points there. Later this week I’m going to install plain Sims 2 and count the number of hair styles and clothing options. Also I’ll explore the face options. I’ll follow in the Sims 3 thread.

Well, ok, it seemed like you were. If not, then sorry confused your point.

My historical position on ZeroP was Yahtzee is a riot. You are just picking a point where I got tired of the same formula every week and the cool music samples were replaced by a short instrumental in a style I did not like in the least.

Also consider that just because you can make a bunch of things in any color you want does not mean you have “more options” in any real sense. All it means is you can repaint something without making a new file. Also you can only adjust the color of a set number of pieces for each outfit. You can’t reassign or move those options. So if you really want actual options, you’d STILL have to make them the old fashioned way.

Oh, but have I mentioned you can’t make them the old fashioned way anymore, as EA flatout refuses to release any custom content building programs to the public, possibly for fear they’ll not sell as many expansions despite the fact that TS2 expansions sold at almost a 1:1 ratio, with stuff packs closer to between 1:2 and 1:3?

TS3 is a laughable step back from TS2 in many respects as far as user freedom and creation tools are concerned. The town running all the time as opposed to jumping back and forth from house to town is nice and all, I guess.

All I can really say for TS3 at this point is that the first expansion pack better be completely fucking awesome, because I know a large number of people in the Sims fan community who are basically giving it till the first expansion before getting rid of it.

I was actually really surprised how many options weren’t available in Sims 3 from hairstyles to clothes to items. The clothes in particular–they seem to think (as Matt pointed out) that because you can change the color that counts as ‘another option.’ The jacuzzi tub has always been a hilarious party option in the Sims where you can make absolutely everyone jealous in like two seconds flat. It’s a god damn staple in a Sims house yet it is not available. For the amount of time that my Sims end up with the ‘throw a great party’ wish, there really aren’t a lot of options out there to help you do it. Buy some balloons, get a buffet table. Pray.

As a woman who is scary, shoots blood out of her vagina on a monthly basis and likes the Sims 3, I thought Yahtzee pretty much nailed it. Hilariously, even.

Merritt you have 51 posts in this thread and you start bashing Yahtzee on your sixth. You start whining about the music by the 14th and never let up aside from one positive post about his DNF review. So your history as it stands is you don’t really care for him.

Never got into the Sims all these years. Sims 3 looks like a ripoff with less stuff. Is it worth it to get Sims 2 Double Deluxe for $20 as an entry point into the series?

I would like to point out that I think the ZP theme song kicks ass.

I didn’t like it at first, but it grew on me.

Honestly, I think he just couldn’t top his use of ‘I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper’. I just finished reading the Old Man’s War trilogy and I couldn’t stop humming that song the whole time, thanks to Yahtzee…

Not related to ZP but I have to geek-out real quick.

I love those books. Makes me sad Scalzi was making sounds about wanting to get away from that universe a while, I think the only sci-fi series I enjoyed more was the Foundation trilogy. Great great books, though I wasn’t as big on Zoe’s Tale since it was just an alternate perspective on Last Colony.

I would say so, but make sure to browse user content sites, as that’s where the real appeal is.

Rob Merritt, you are without merit.
Matt Keil…ah, screw it…your chase is without merit as well.

All I meant was, and I guess it was so obfuscated and hidden it flew right over everyone’s head, is the classical villain retort when he’s “caught” breaking up his word: “Well, my dear Vennesa, I lied! MUHAHAHA”.

I think he covered that one under the ‘cash in on downloadable content because suckers never die, ROFL@U suckaz!’ portion.

I concur. Thus, I attempted to contact the artist for a full length version, however, was replied that he’s holding it out by request from The Escapist, apparently they’re going to try and launch an Escapist soundtrack disc or something, IDK…he said he’ll get back in touch back when he has more details or is able to release…nothing yet to date.

There will be something to report re: the music in another week or so. I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say, but it’s good news for pretty much everyone. Well, everyone who likes the music, that is.

So everyone except Lizard King then. Good to know.

Well, thank god. I was concerned we weren’t going to be able to hit critical mass for combative stupidity in this thread.

Don’t worry, that assclown couldn’t even figure out how to play Far Cry 2.

We’ve all got our blood up from weekend fireworks.
