Obligatory but true, Sonic CD rules them all.

Granted that’s stretching it on the 16-Bit Genesis era Sonic games, what with being Sega CD, but it was truly excellent.

Props to TJ&E though, the games were ahead of the time, honestly. A roguelike on Genesis, followed by an adventure-scroller-platformer really didn’t call to the general audience. And then there was the shitfest of the third game…le sigh.

I don’t know if I’d go that far. As TRex DX outlined earlier, the ring-based life/death system was pretty revolutionary at the time, especially in comparison to Mario’s more constricting methods of same. Obviously it’s a matter of taste, but Sonic was, if not a paradigm shift, definitely proof that there was more to platforming mascot life than Mario.

Sonic was no Bubsy, that’s for sure.

I’m still waiting for a next-gen Plok.

A next gen Bubsy game? What could possibly go wrong?

Plenty.

Well, I was more referring to the game’s “catchphrase” and most overused line of dialogue in the…Thanksgiving special, I think?

But yikes, I managed to block that one from my memory entirely. With good reason. Then again on a recent play, Super Bubsy wasn’t so hot either.

I loved the hell out of TJ&E as a kid (partly because it was 2 player simultaneous, so my brother and I could play together).

But I never thought of it as a roguelike. I can see where you’d make the argument though, I guess.

I actually really liked the third game. The controls were a little wonky, but hey, the random platforming levels in 3d was neat, and the way you could run into and out of splitscreen was frikken rad.

Perhaps it is now, but at the time it got generally lower reviews than its predecessor and successor. i suppose it still is a really good game though.

No. The entire sonic series - even the worst games - were pretty damn good as far as platformers went. Yeah, the 3d games went from mediocre to worse, but let’s not rewrite history.

Among the most underrated games everrrrr

I’d blame that as much on people missing out on the Sega CD as anything, unfortunately. Damn shame, because there was some serious gold on there that had only been on PC before, or a weak weak version on Super NES.

Rise of the Dragon, Sonic CD, Wing Commander, Jurassic Park…okay, so you had your Sewer Sharks(actually a fun enough rail shooter) and Night Traps (no excuse there, but Double Switch was entertaining-ish sometimes). But then you also got Lunar-The Silver Star and Silpheed.

Fuck, I’m getting nostalgic, next up I’ll be yelling about damn Playstation kids.

Modern Warfare 2 today.

“Maybe for the next one they’ll have you stomp a little girl’s puppy and scoop up the remains with a piece of paper with a Holocaust denial written on it.”

“The Guitar Hero of state-sponsored genocide” would make a great box tagline.

Enjoyed the bit about looking around like a cat or whatever, summed up my feelings about the game.

This one was really good

Bames Jond certainly has a way with words.

Ask about our “pre-owned games” scam.

Assassin’s Creed 2 today.

Well that was snappy.

Yahtzee’s voice seems to have gone all weird and intelligible this week.
