Damning with faint praise this week?
I think he has a cold.
Good video. I’m a sucker for a “Clever girl” reference.
Definitely. It paints a very poor picture of the game overall, I thought. More so than some of the outright negative reviews.

Given who it is, faint praise is significantly less than damning. More like angels singing from heaven.

Today’s Special: Left 4 Dead 2 and New Super Mario Bros Wii!
I’m not as down on the “we made Mario 3 again” angle, but NSMBW is one of the least fun multiplayer experiences I’ve had all year. Maybe it’s just two-plus decades of Mario platformers being SERIOUS BUSINESS, but every time we’d die at a boss and have to do the whole thing over because we kept bouncing off each other’s heads I was frustrated beyond all hell. Fantastic single player, though.

Never played the game but I did laugh a bit at that review.

Yeah, I figured he wasn’t going to like this game very much. He pretty much nails it though.

Et tu, Zero Punctuation? Ads before the videos? Fuck…
That’s not really new. They just hadn’t had one for a while. And now they have three. Which is baffling.
Odd - I didn’t get an ad this week.
I only got one ad, for Saboteur. Funny enough the Saboteur ad was sponsered by ATi/AMD. (It’s funny because the game wouldn’t work on ATI cards when it was released for a lot of people).
Two. I forgot they bought each other. I was working on the other screen, glanced over, saw a big AMD logo. So it’s an ad that’s paid for by advertising in the advertisement for a sponsor.
That was Yahtzee’s first review that is in fact 100% accurate, and should be linked whenever someone recommends Demon’s Souls to some unsuspecting (human) soul.

Huh. How about that. This time he had nothing to say. He just described playing the game and added some swears. Where’s the actual review, Mr. Croshaw? He didn’t even have anything Demon’s Souls related in the ending animation or the credits comments. He talked about the weather instead. Really lame episode.
What did we learn? Don’t review games you have no interest in yourself just because your friends recommend it to you. The interest will not magically appear and your blahness will show in the end product.
[Full disclosure: I became a Demon’s Souls fan by playing the game. I therefore naturally expected and wanted Croshaw to really tear into the game and rip it a new one. No such luck.]

I got the distinct impression he didn’t like it. Was he unclear?

He didn’t like it, but not in an interesting way. He kind of conveyed the impression that just stopped playing it at 1-2 because it was too hard to figure out. There’s all kinds of stupid stuff he never even got close to ripping on (like the Crystal Lizards).
This sort of thing is just not nearly as fun as the reviews where he’s clearly completed all or most of the game and can then go really in-depth about where it failed utterly. All we got here was “too hard” and “the graphics sub-par,” which you know will be the case the minute you see it’s developed by From Software.

Yeah, but to be fair, the video is probably an accurate representation of what 90% of the gaming population will experience when they (try to) play Demon’s Souls.
