Wow… who knew that this was going to be a Zeropunctuation review about a person rather than a game, right here on Quarter to Three!

I think it’s time for everyone to…

This week: Alan Wake

“I’ve seen better lip syncing in Captain Scarlett”. Buahahahahah. So true! Also, I love the visual of the plain-faced man that Yahtzee always uses stuffed full of botox.

I’m pretty sure that the face is someone specific, but we don’t recognize it because we’re not British enough.

  • Gus

I forgot where I read/heard it, but in an interview I remember he mentioned that he chose that face specifically for its complete lack of expression, not because it was someone recognizable.

And here I was, so sure it was some Minister of Parliament or something he enjoyed bagging on. Sort of like the Branston Pickle thing, which I had to look up to understand.

“… like an indecisive hitman/optician.” Love it.

This week : Red Dead Redemption.

That one was hilarious. It’s like he liked it…yet didn’t…

He said bad things about Just Cause 2. Die die!

Yeah, it almost felt like he was going to gush over it. Almost. Of course, this beeing Yahtzee that was never going to happen. Funny review nonetheless. I dare him to breeze through the game in 10-15 hours though. I have been going more or less straight through it and I am at about 30 hours.

He wasn’t wrong about some of the issues (why can’t you turn on your heel?), but most of the issues he described never happened to me or never bothered me. It was funny, but as usual when he reviews a game I actually really enjoyed, much of the humor was lost on me. He’s always better reviewing a game that’s absolute crap. I can’t wait for his alpha protocol review! :)

I like that he catches the mistakes and mocks them, even if they don’t bother me.

And what do you mean, no gameplay impact? My new costume lets me cheat at cards!

Funnily enough, I agree with him on all points. I’ve started to skip cut scenes of R* characters yammering on about sociopolitical philosophy just so I can get to the shooty shooty. I don’t mind dialog if it was delivered by characters I actually want to listen to. Aside Landon Ricketts and Bonnie McFarlane, every other R* character is an exercise in annoyance.

Playing poker however, is an incredible time sink.

I agreed with him on all points except for the point about the world seeming bigger than the one in Just Cause 2. That is so not true for me. The RDR world feels absolutely constricted and small to me. I think it’s because of the way they did the map and GPS system within the game, but regardless of the reason for it, the RDR world just feels tiny to me, even though it shouldn’t.

P.S. That was a very funny episode.

RDR is a large game, no doubt about it. JC2 on the other hand is absolutely massive.

I agree on all points (except comparison to that Swedish game I haven’t played) and yet I like RDR more than any game I’ve played in a long time.

But I stopped doing Challenges when I realized I’d get nothing but a medal for them (except the Marksman challenge, because that’s actually fun to do in it’s own right) - but I’m also the guy with an early model Xbox 360, 100s of games and a Gamerscore of 6000…

Wait a sec, he liked the sailing in Zelda: Wind Waker? His Phantom Hourglass review led me to believe differently… Oh well, not much use to nitpick the nitpicker.

Funny episode.
