To hear Raven tell it, Bioshock ripped them off.

His opinion of Bioshock seems to have gone up quite a bit since he reviewed it.

I found his review of Bioshock baffling at the time. He’d just finished complaining bitterly in his Psychonauts review about people not buying games that focus on story and atmosphere, and then he utterly ignores that aspect in his Bioshock review.

Recall that back then, Bioshock was still flogging the “spiritual successor to System Shock” hype train. That’s probably why he took the approach that he did.

Or maybe he just didn’t like the story and atmosphere. I, for one, didn’t much care for the vaseline-and-neon art direction.

I don’t see where you get that. He flat-out said it was fantastic and one of the best games of the year, but focused on the negative “because none of you like me when I focus on the positive” (see also Psychonauts).

I was going to prove you wrong, since I knew he’d done no such thing, so I re-watched the Bioshock review - and damn me if he didn’t start his review with a disclaimer about how good the game was and how he was only going to be pissy because that’s what his fans liked.

Crap.

Regarding the story: “It’s not like System Shock 2, it is System Shock 2.”

Still, all his pissy remarks were presumably sincere.

Something I’m surprised I’ve never seen mentioned is the thematic similarity between the Cyborg Midwives and the Little Sisters.

Oh man, I was grinning so badly at the Blackburn, Lancashire bit… the game sounds worth a try as well (for somebody who didn’t mind Wolfenstein all that much).

This week, Crackdown 2.

“All we’re left with is the fucking about.”

Letdown can join the ranks of Crapdown and Crackdowngrade.

You know, he says in passing that Crackdown 1 is a great game. Which it is. But that implies another extreme rarity, a positive Yahtzee review. But there isn’t one. As far as I can tell, he never reviewed the first game.

Deathspank and Limbo this week.

Brilliant.

I think that was my last closing 10 seconds.

I really wish I had some extra cash to play Limbo, it looks amazing.

Weird, the video won’t load for me (any vid on the escapist…). It worked fine last week…

edit: Apparently only firefox is not liked as Internet Explorer works fine.

Nice.

I had no troubles in Firefox.

He’s sort-of positive about these games. Though I hate platformers so I’m never, ever going to play Limbo.

Speaking of grim - I can’t wait for the new Alice game to finally come out, if only to see what he has to say about it… I seem to recall OMM panning the old one, but the reason escapes me.

Couldn’t have been the crates.
