I wish! Company of Heroes is notorious for its terrible patching process. It has dozens of incremental patches, and some can randomly bork your install, forcing you to re-install completely. It’s gotten a bit better now that they’ve combined some of the incremental patches into larger packs, but CoH and Dawn of War are still model examples of how to NOT implement a patching system.

But you don’t need to hunt them down, you log onto the multiplayer portion and the patch is downloaded and installed.

And Relic are by far and away the worst example of patching in the games industry. In most cases you hit the Update date, or the game auto-notifies you, or you bought it via digital distribution and it’s patched by the store.

Auto-graphics config is also standard in PC games and has been for a good four years or so. Not resolution though, oddly, but since most people have TFTs these days you don’t get a lot of choice, you use the native resolution or it scales and looks slightly shit.

If you’re gonna complain about something, target drivers for graphics cards, the one part of the PC you actually should keep up to date, yet need to track down.

He does bring up the issue of “gaming culture”, but aside from calling everyone involved either retarded or too full of themselves (including his own self in the latter category), he didn’t delve into it…

I guess there were no LOLs there, nor any potshots to be taken at a certain webcomic…

He’s attacking one webcomic very specifically in this one. One that even I don’t find funny. “Note that I mentioned no actual names in this article so if I think I’m talking about you and your comic then that says more about your feelings than mine” is not so much a disclaimer as a final “fuck you” to this one person in particular.
