I refuse to be constrained by the paramaters of this poll, I will soar like the unique snowflake I am!
It would be cool if the forum software allowed for polls in which anyone could add an option and vote for it if they didn’t want to vote for any of the existing options. I guess it could be abused, and in theory would be best as an option for the poll maker, but I’m getting too in-depth for a quick musing.
Actually I bet write-in’s for polls could deliver some pretty funny stuff…Get on it Tom. :)
Haha, Tom’s an administrator, not an author of vBulletin. I really doubt it’s at all possible. It would be cool though.
Anyone ever play Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler’s Green? It was pretty fun, if you like zombies. :)
I couldn’t select my option for Burn Zombie, Burn. Can someone correct that?
It may have been in 1998, but it was too far behind the times for 2005.
Even the movie was more enjoyable, with better pacing, better design, better acting, and a better plot. And the movie sucked.
Oh, thank God! Any time I tell people I thought that movie sucked, they react like I told them their mother gave bad oral.
I think the movie was bad, though it did have a few good zombie scenes. It wasn’t as bad as Diary of the Dead!
And the game had a wide variety of weapons, and somewhat of a story. The combat got repetitive, but I did have a few minor scares or exciting moments. I don’t think I ever beat it.
I’m just saying… I had a few good hours of fun :) Multiplayer could have been better, though!
Let me clarify: The movie may well have sucked, but it did have its moments. Overall, though, it was a waste of potential. Zombies + Dennis Hopper should = Awesome.
And I played the game from beginning to end. Once in a while I even enjoyed it. But it was the repetition, and the square, angular level design that killed it for me. It was a retail zombie shooter that didn’t do anything that They Hunger hadn’t already done years prior, and for free.
L4D is still the only game that sucks my life like a MMO, filling my friends list with so many people i can practically organize it by specialties:
bob here goes with the other sniper users, while jimmy goes with the friends that are great at getting your back.
But I do not think that the L4D SDK will shore up anything but campaigns(which i gleefully support!) unless more people go back to the old server list using the command console.
I voted for Killing Floor, and am apparently the only one. I would have liked L4D more, but it gets older faster. AI director doesn’t mix things up enough, and the incredibly wimpy regular zombies turn me off. Even with Killing Floor’s faults and pseudo-zombies, it plays more like a zombie game to me. There’s a good “Oh shit” feeling when a wave is starting and your group hasn’t managed to run to a safe area or fortify their spot properly, whereas a random swarm of zombies in L4D is almost never a threat.
L4D’s zombies work by slowly nickel and diming your health between levels, Killing Floor’s zombies tend to just outright kill you if you aren’t covering an entrance properly.
That said, the campaigns in L4D are great for one or two runs. I just feel less inclined to play campaign mode over and over than I do Killing Floor. I’m also glad I’ve got both games since I like zombie killing in general, and they’re two different flavors.
Edit: Oh, shit. Started reading the rest of the thread and realized I was thinking about co-op zombie bashing only. Dead Rising is my favorite zombie game, no question. Easily crushes Killing Floor and L4D.
I’m still somewhat partial to Resident Evil 2. But if Typing of the Dead counts as a zombie shooter, that’s my #1.
I believe the correct term is “zombocalypse”, sir.
I did some serious headhunting last night with KF and L4D. KF was first. I’m still not enarmoured with its maps, but like Squee said, any wave in KF is potentially a killing wave, especially if you get surrounded. The infected in L4D are barely a blip compared to even the least of the zombies in KF, and KF’s “specials” are a rough crew from the get-go. Once KF gets tightened down a bit, I think I’ll prefer it over L4D.
“Zombocalypse” would have been better.
I am enjoying KF as well. My main complaint isn’t so much the quality of the maps as much as the small number of maps. Having one game mode compounds the lack of content problem.
Having a six versus six PvP mode with zombies in the middle might be amusing. The fiction could be that after a zombiepocalypse two small communities, in addition to trying to survive the zombie hordes, are fighting each other over dwindling supplies.
That reminded me of that TV show “Jericho.” Though, if that show was based on a ZOMBIE apocalypse, I’m sure it wouldn’t have gotten canceled.
