Yep, absolutely. Get/install the expansion immediately but don’t worry over starting a character over, as Fugitive said. The worst case is when you’ve actually finished Normal, moved your character into Epic, sold off all your relics/charms that you didn’t need, then installed the expansion. Oops, all those relics/charms are actually useful now and you don’t have any to create artifacts unless you go farm early in the game again.
I had that happen to about 8-9 of my TQ characters. Y’all seem good to go, though.
So what does the future hold for the fine folks over at Ironlore Entertainment? Another Titan Quest expansion? Maybe a full-on sequel? BTW, does anyone know how TQ did in retail?
It got kind of silent over at ILE after the expansion hit the stores, but their site indicates there are jobs available for multiplatform, next-gen games and they are hiring gameplay designers. I’d be guessing a sequel (not expansions), although they may go for a entirely different style of game.
Frankly, I was kind of worried that despite the praise on TQ that ILE was going bye-bye. I’m always concerned about these small studios once a game is finished because it’s like they vanish from the planet.

I’m sure this has been asked, and I tried a site search with Google, but does “improved duration” mean the duration is shorter? Like if I have 60 bleeding over 6 seconds and I get something with 10% improved duration, does that mean that it’s then 60 damage over 5.4 seconds?
Hmm, good question. I always read it as meaning improved duration = lasts longer with the same DPS over that time. 60 bleeding over 6 seconds is really 10 bleeding over 1 second. So 10% improved would be 11 bleeding over 1.1 seconds (or 66 bleeding over 6.6 seconds total). Essentially, the DPS you do lasts longer.

I just got TQ and IT and am playing for the first time.

I wouldn’t mind them ditching the greek mythology bit. I like, nay, lovethe subject, but for whatever reason it just feels limiting in a game like this. I think they have done a good job with it, but something else would be welcome. I do hope they stay in the same genre, it’s rare a game gets even an 1/8th the play time I put in to TQ and it’s expansion. Probably by far the best bang for my buck I have ever gotten outside of Diablo 2. There are lots of attempts at the genre, but so few get it right.

I’m pretty torn about if they make another action rpg whether to create completely new classes for it, or remake the ones they did for TQ but in a different setting. This is one of the few rpgs I’ve played that I liked all the classes.

I like the mythology setting personally. There aren’t that many games that do it as well as Titan Quest.
Maybe they could do something like Norse or Roman mythology for the next one.

Another mythology is a great idea, although Roman is basically co-opted Greek.

I really like this game (just recently started playing with the expansion.) I just wish it didn’t CTD frequently in Vista. This is the only game left that I’m still playing that would require me to reboot into XP. And usually I’d rather not.

My level 34 stormcaller finally beat Typhon last night. Holy cow, talk about a hard fight! It took me about 6 or 7 tries before I finally killed that bastard. I thought after the 2nd try that it just wasn’t going to be possible, so I went out and leveled up one more time. That didn’t seem to help all that much. I figured my main problem was that I just didn’t have enough life and elemental resistance to survive the onslaught so I replaced most of my energy regeneration gear with +resistance and +life gear. That apparently did the trick as I finally downed that evil mofo after a grueling ~15 minute fight. I had a lot of fun and I can’t wait to see how my other characters do.

If you install the expansion you get another great Act. Setting of the Act is sekrit!

Yep, I already started on it. :)

Ah, thought you didn’t have it because of this line:
I can’t wait to see how my other characters do.
Figured you were going to work on alts instead. Act IV was great.
Thanks in part to the discussion here (and to Jeff Green’s mentions on the GFW podcast), I’ve just started playing this. Had to try a few different Masteries before one stuck (Earth being the first that really worked for me).
I don’t know how I feel about the game yet, not having gotten too far, but a few things I really appreciate:
-
Infinite town portal!
-
Shared storage for characters! (This is something I had just recently thought of myself, and now I think all appropriate games should do it…)
-
Finding a quest destination before finding the quest giver doesn’t screw you or make you backtrack! (Now this should just be the law…)
These kinds of little details really remove some of the painful aspects of playing this sort of RPG, and I really appreciate them.
Well, some quests do make you go back to the giver as you complete them. But yeah, it’s great that you can actually do the quest without being required to first talk to the quest giver. The caravan is a really great improvement, but it’s been more of a curse than blessing for me simply because it causes me to save everything in case one of my other characters can use it when I should probably just sell it all.
I’m in Giza and somehow managed to screw myself up. Some rearrangement of items (or something?!?!?) took me from a nice fast health regeneration to a small negative one. Unfortunately, I sold a bunch of items to clear my inventory before doing the math on this. This doesn’t make a lot of sense to me; how did I give myself negative health regen?
Edit: Never mind, reading is hard.

Res time,I have 2 quick questions that have been bothering me with a new character I started.
I have a warfare/spirit guy who is an energy drain. I have that aura that slows down and weakens enemies on as well as onslaught at rank 5. When it says 1 point of energy cost, is that one point per rank? As it seems that once I start attacking my energy plummets.
And does anyone know the rate that raising intelligence increases the energy restore rate?
Onslaught uses one energy point each time you swing and shouldn’t really be a problem. Deathchill Aura burns one point each second, so that’s going to be hurting you more if you aren’t equipped with gear that increases energy replenishment.
