HAG’S SKIN

Dropped by : Sandwing Crones.
Required Level : 12 (Normal), 30 (Epic), 41 (Legendary)

Gamefaqs is as always the place to go.

Thanks. I don’t really see why that bow is all that great. The damage on it is a little lower than the bow I’m currently using, though I guess with the damage bonus and the Artemis’ Bowstring relic, it could do a little more than my current bow, but not by much.

I was hoping for a place more like Arreat’s Summit for Diablo 2, which is much more useful than the guides at Gamefaq. For example, I still don’t know which portal to enter to get Sandwing Crones, or where they appear in the game. At Arreat’s Summit, I could look exactly which creatures spawn in which areas, etc.

Curses on whomever resurrected this thread. I saw it and immediately reinstalled :)

This time my plan is to build the ultimate pet class. I want to be able to just wander around throwing the odd staff attack whilst my army of minions does all the work for me. To this aim I decided to go for a Ritualist (nature/dream).
If anyone has any tips it would be most welcome.

This game has had a few disappointments, but I think the biggest disappointment for me was when I saw what a “nightmare” looks like within the game. I’m used to Nightmares being the creatures from hell that look like fancy version of horses, from other games like Warlords Battlecry. So I was caught by surprise that the creature called a Nightmare in this game is … some kind of weird bird-thing.

If you’re using a bow, don’t bother with Flush Out. The -% DA has no effect with bows so it’s not adding any damage at all.

I played for a bit. I’m still having trouble in the section right after the first hub city in Act IV, but not as much trouble. So the respec was definitely a good call. But I’m still getting pounded a lot before I’m able to kill someone because they’re so fast.

Do you have points in Scatter Shot and Volley? They’ll both help with groups. You could try putting one point in Distortion Wave for the slow effect.

Also, is there a website that tells you where to warp to in the game in order to get different essences and materials for recipes?

Don’t know of one. Hag’s Skin is Act II… try Lower Nile.

I think another option to slow people down is to make one of those elemental rune things (the circular things you put into the big box to the lower left of your paper doll) that has a cold effect on it. I think all cold damage causes slowdown, even with bows.

Closest thing to the Arreat Summit is this site

But yeah, still no Arreat Summit.

Definitely true when it comes to big bosses, though versus regular characters I’ve found myself switching to melee weapons quite often since the best bows I could find simply didn’t do sufficient damage and hit-and-run attacks would often lead to 2 dozen enemies chasing me while I had to pick them off 1 by 1, then back-track for the next 5 minutes to where I encountered them.

I have been so bored, I installed this game yet again (actually I bought it, yet again, this time from steam, Titian Quest gold).

So I noticed on the main menu, “Custom Quest” opposed to “Titian Quest”. Is this some kind of way to play custom worlds. If so, can anyone recommended some to try?

Also I noticed some talk about mods. How do these work with steam and are there any ones people recommend? I saw the Underlord link here, but so far I can’t find anything on the details of what it does. It “changes everything” is the best I found. Is the map layout different?

Ah, I bugged this so many times…along with one shotting epic Ty due to piercing stacking…which I’m not sure they’ve ever fixed, or players have yet to figure out.

The only time I’ve gone into custom quest so far is to load up the xMax mod which multiplies the number of enemies which will appear. It is helping me with levelling up my Level 60 odd character. More enemies = faster rate of experience turnover.

I think steam version is the same as the non-steam versions as far as installation goes. And that should apply to the Underlord mod too, which admittedly I haven’t downloadeded yet (the joys of capped internet at the time). Actually, just looking now, Underlord is an installer, so it should install in the right place anyway I believe.

Well, version 1.2 won’t install on my system; it says it needs Underlord installed. I haven’t found a download for any previous version. Just the 1.3 patch, and the 1.4 RC. Kind of haphazard.

Could be a function of me playing TQ via steam, I dunno.

I started playing the 1.3 Underlord version on the steam gold box edition. It worked fine except for multi-player. My friend could never join my games, he kept getting a version mis-match error. We both reverted to normal versions (via the steam to scan the local files and re-acquire) and patched to the fan-patch then the 1.2 and then 1.3 and still he could not join my games because of a version mis-match. In desperation we got the 1.4rc versions, installed those and finally we could both play in multi-player together.

Oddly I can’t join multi-player games. Whenever I hit refresh to shower servers I get an invalid socket assertion error.

You need to assert your fucking sockets, son.

Also, please don’t shower the servers. It irritates their skin.

I’m a hunter, specializing in bows. Any suggestions as to a useful second mastery?

Right click on the steam icon (or exe? Whatever), run as administrator. Problem solved.

Dream or Nature.

If you go through a few pages back, you’ll see some comments regarding hunter builds.

Are there any build guides for underlord mod? I found a few on the same forum I found the underlord mod itself, however there isn’t much there. I am interested in understanding a Warfare / dream and Defense / Dream build. What skills to get and whatnot, and maybe even in what order.

No Dream for you. You aren’t emotionally prepared to handle it’s OPness. Only I can.

More seriously, there are Dream Passives that might be of interest to you. The Dream Mastery improves int + strength. How much that benefits you I can’t say. It’s not ideal that is isn’t dex. . . but it isn’t really the end of the world. Or the town. Or the street.

Dream has a “line” of skills that are auras. There are 3. I’ve been using the first though I needn’t have put a point in it (I just wanted us to have something in the mean time. I’ll respec later). The second is damage absorption + energy and health regent. Terrific - any party benefits from that.

The third, obtained at 40 mastery points? I believe it adds damage and possibly attack power. That may or may not help you.

There are also passive buffs. One adds offensive + defensive ability. And I think it has an add on buff that adds other effects that might be up your alley. A secondary mastery need not be something you invest heavily in. I figure anything that boosts damage or offensive ability is up your alley. The third aura I was talking about adds ele damage, which is probably good for you (especially post Normal; I believe you will be pierce damage heavy at at some point ages ago pierce resistance spiked out the wazoo in the higher difficulties). That also might be something to look for elsewhere. Storm has abilities that will add elemental damage, IIRC. Earth might as well.

Go for a wackier build and take Storm! Don’t get any of the nukes, just get the auras and pet. With your piercing arrows your extra cold/lightning aura damage will carry through and anyone hitting you will get slowed, electrocuted, and stunned. The pet will cast a party buff that doubles your magic damage, 99% dodge makes it kind of a tank, and it can stun people too.
