I did want to try a Brigand (Hunter+Rogue) at some point, a heavy bleed/poison build that also has some piercing bonuses in there. Would make short work of any boss battle.

Downloaded xmax 2. However, I can’t seem to get it running.
I created the following folder:

itan quest immortal throne\custommaps\

I then extracted the zip there, so now I have:

itan quest immortal throne\custommaps\monsters-x2\

But when I start Immortal Throne and chose a custom game, there is nothing listed under maps.

I’m not sure how it works. Where’s Staff Seargant when you need him.

I just installed the fanpatch and Underlord and am having a blast! Much more difficult and enemies all over the place.

Is that folder path in the game directory, or in the windows document directory?

It has to be under the user profile windows directory to work

(ie: My Documents\My Games\Titan Quest - Immortal Throne)

I had the same problem a while ago, let me look for my old forum post about it in on tq.net. I’ll have an answer for you in like 5 minutes.

Nope, that’s probably it. But god I hate it when developers use My Documents.

I just assumed that Strato nailed it, let me know if that wasn’t the problem and I’ll see if I can help.

SO wanted to give this mod a try. I followed the installation instructions, copied things into the documents\my games itanquest - IT\custom maps folder.

Something went wrong though. When it’s time to go selecting a path I see the names of the path. But the skill trees are the old skill trees, not the new ones. Since I’ve already modded TQ some I was thinking I might just re-install so I can get a clean slate and try again.

Can’t help you there, I only ever installed Xmax and the community fanpatch.

make sure you put the resources and data directories in the right place.

If you put them in the wrong place you get the error you’re getting.

I love paths btw, it rocks.

I put it where I was told to put it in the linked thread. my documents\my games itan quest - Immortal Throne\custommaps\paths\ then resources and the other directory.

So I’m trying to find a cool action RPG with cooperative multiplayer to play with my girlfriend online. She likes Diablo 2 and after playing the demo for Titan Quest I noticed they play very similarly. The game seems to sell for $15 at this point, which sounds good to me, especially since I’ll have to buy two copies.

How is the multiplayer? Anything in specific I need to keep in mind? I saw the host/join game buttons in the demo so I guess I don’t need to worry about finding servers or anything like that.

Solid action-RPG that takes a ton from Diablo 2.

Amazon sells the gold edition for $7.

It’s a huge game – much larger than Diablo 2. It may bore you before the end, although co-op with the girlfriend will alleviate that.

  1. The game is totally awesome in Multi-player.
  2. Start playing with the expansion since it includes the original game.
  3. When building up characters, most of your stats and stuff come from raising the main skill in a given tree. Put 1 point in skills you may want to use, and then keep pumping your main tree until it is maxed, then buff out skills you like a lot.

My personal favorite build is Warfare / Dream.

How is the multiplayer?

I beat the game along with a friend and enjoyed the experience overall. Yes, you can host your own games. Keep in mind though: Unlike Diablo et al, Titan Quest doesn’t have randomly generated dungeons. That certainly lowers the replay value somewhat once you’ve beaten the game because you’ve already seen everything and know where the treasures are. No element of surprise or exploration past the first run.

If you’re not in a hurry, you could wait for the obligatory and regular Steam deal to come along. Or Torchlight II to come out.

You can definitely pick up the gold edition for less then $15, probably less then $10 if you look hard enough. It actually holds up remarkably well, since I started playing it with a few friends rather recently. There is no loading screens when you’re exploring the world, the portal system and open quest system makes for an easy co-op experience but unfortunately the lack of randomly generated areas does make the game a bit stale (if you care about that sort of thing) after you’ve played through it once or twice. I’d certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a Diablo-like experience though.

As for the MP side, you can host your own server and it works fairly well. When I played not too long ago there was no fiddling with ports or anything like that; simply search for the game name, join and play. It’s a pretty huge game and co-op is far more fun then playing solo. If you are to start playing it though I’d recommend you grab the gold edition that includes the expansion Immortal Throne. It adds 10 levels onto the end game but more importantly it’s needed for the fan patch that fixes many of the games bugs and broken skills and stuff like that, it’s 100% necessary if you are at all interested.

Ultimately this is a big problem for lots of people, too. I mean yes, you could just use one of the mods that dumps you into legendary mode at an appropriate level with a bunch of random magic items but without the sheer quantity of spawning magic items throughout normal and epic, you aren’t going to have a proper gear set for your character. Not to mention that without the many many hours of experience playing a certain class you aren’t going to have the skill to play at the legendary level or the knowledge to know what an optimum gear set for you even is.

And so if you are new to the game you basically have to play through almost same exact game three times to really get the full experience (normal, epic, and legendary all play very differently, and there’s nothing quite like the balance of how powerful your character is with how dangerous the enemies are in legendary). So whether you will like this comes down to how much you can take repetitive maps (albeit beautiful maps).

Wow, thank you for all the answers! This definitely seems like the game to get. I will be getting Titan Quest Gold (€9.99 on Steam). Is ‘Bugfix Fanpatch’ the must-have mod people are talking about.

I’ll give you the same advice I give everyone: go to the unofficial official titan quest forums, download the latest fanpatch, and then after you get tired of the main game browse some of their mods.

But yes, the fanpatch is essential as it fixes a number of bugs that correct the way some skills and items work so they match the developers initial intent. specifically spirit mastery gets some big fixes I believe.
