If you like the staff, Spirit/Storm, Spirit/Earth and Spirit/Rogue all have skills that boost your main attack.

Ragnarok is a great expansion @anonymgeist, but it is long. Still, you get to check out some of the northern mythologies.

Titan Quest is one of my favorite ARPGs. I enjoy it far more than Grim Dawn. I vastly prefer the talent trees which I think are more refined. Plus the bright and welcoming aesthetic is more appealing. What really pushed it over the edge for me though was the speed option. Crank it up to ludicrous speed or whatever the highest is and TQ really flies.

RE: Bow focused characters. I really enjoy the Brigand who specializes in bows/poison. Scatter shot your foes and watch them stumble around in a daze until they die from poison. Here is a basic build to get you started if you fancy trying one. The key skill here is Mandrake.

I got to the Spartan army checkpoint last night. I have to say that just like every other skill I’ve used in this game, this skill turned out to be so lame. It basically fires 3 projectiles instead of one from your staff, with a nerf to the damage of each one. That sounds awesome on paper, but the actual skill as used has a really wide arc. So unless you’re right up next to the enemy, two projectiles always miss and go off in various directions. What if there’s a clump of enemies? Nope, they still miss somehow. Basically you have to walk up next to an enemy and hit them with all 3. And when I do, I can one-hit-kill most enemies now, which is kind of cool, it’s not something most of my characters could do in this game, so that’s something. But again, there’s no oomph, enemies just drop dead where they are, there’s no satisfaction, there’s no satisfying sound effect or animation or explosion. It’s all very lame.

But hey, at least I get one hit kills on most trash enemies now, so that’s something. I’ll keep going with this character.

That does sound good on paper. I doubt it’s very satisfying to use within the game, but hey, what I should do is use that mod that lets you play these classes in Grim Dawn. That way I can try a Brigand in Grim Dawn instead. I know ranged characters feel awesome to use in that game.

That’s when you couple it with Rogue. Envenom Weapon, Nightshade, Toxin Distillation and Mandrake.
Sure, you think, Poison Damage isn’t great, but you only need Envenom Weapon to get Nightshade, which slows all the enemies down for 5 seconds (great for a range combatant), and Mandrake, which cause the enemy to get confused and/or Fumble their attacks.

That, coupled with Ternion Attack (which cause your staff to do splash damage) really spread around the debuffs, and increases the projectile speed.

Spirit/Rogue isn’t my favorite build (although traps will work with almost any build), but it does work rather well.

As I said, Storm and Earth also provide buffs to your main attack, which, if you are using Ternion Attack, you can benefit from.

I’m most tempted by Earth as a complement to my Spirit mastery, yes. To add fire damage to each of my Ternion Attacks, and Earth mastery seems to have a lot of skills that sound great with even just one point in them.

Ternian attack is godly once leveled up. The dream tree pairs well with spirit, although one could say the dream tree pairs well with everything.

Same here, I’m all over it. Also, should I mention I’ve yet to play Grim Dawn? The heck, I need to get my ass in gear.

Why would you even say that when he says he’s played that build and enjoys it?

It’s in the context of the larger context of posts. See above my posts about playing bow users before and the animations and not finding strong bows, etc, etc. I’m not passing judgment on draxen’s enjoyment, but my own, based on my own experience with previous characters.

Just bear in mind that once you find a good bow on any of your characters, you can pass it over to any other character via the transfer storage. I have a ton of great bows I’ve found over the years. I even have a nice level 3 bow I like to give my new characters that use bows. You can always play another build until you find some good bows and then try a new bow user.

The one thing that makes Grim Dawn vastly superior to me these days is… controller support. I find it really hard to enjoy mouse-dependant ARPGs nowadays, with very few exceptions.

I had a fantastic experience with my bow character in TQ. Used Dream + Hunting.

I played Titan Quest with the controller last night! (Xbox version) It was much better! And yet, pretty bad at the same time. Grim Dawn has much better controller support by a mile.

But yeah, not having to click a mouse button improves the Titan Quest experience immensely.

That was my first character! Unfortunately it took forever to kill a single turtle, or a single skeleton. I forget which part of the game that is, Act 1 or Act 2. Fairly early. And I died a lot as a result.

I have a character that has beaten act IV and killed Hades a few years ago. Now that I have just purchased Ragnarok this weekend, I understand that I need to defeat Hades again in order to get the portal to act V to open up. The problem is that the door to the Hades boss room battle is locked and it says ‘sealed by guardian’. How do I get the door open again so I can kill him again and get to the Ragnarok content?

That sounds like an odd bug. Never seen or heard anything like it, sorry to say.

Googling has revealed that others have had this problem as well. Unfortunately, there seems to be no solution.

I ended up picking this up again on Switch along with the two expansions. And it’s still really, really good! Decided to try playing a pet-focused mage, and picked Spirit/Nature.

That’s my favorite combination :)
I recommend concentrating on putting points into the lich king first (up to a point or two in wraith shell for survivability) then the wolves - otherwise you may struggle on the first boss. The wolves are easily killed in the first playthrough (but have high DPS) where as the lich king is a tough cookie.

Well, one solution is just to start a level 40 character in Ragnarok. It will have ‘completed’ all the quests up until that point, and you can transfer all your items to him.

It will have all the bonus attributes, powers and features as if you beat the game completely already. Just under equiped.

As for favorite classes, I am still having tons of fun with my slightly over the top Illusionist. Traps, Wolves and tons of poison.

Poison might not work on under, but traps work on everyone. And honing blade works with throwing weapons.
