So I’m noticing a disturbing trend. The new characters I’ve been making all end up having abilities that are completely useless against undead and mechanical monsters, both of which are immune to poison and life-stealing as well as being resistant to piercing damage. My Rogue damn near one-shots everything that can bleed and my Bonecharmer (Spirit/Hunter) keeps herself alive and kills at the same time. But they both have an awful time in those damn Tombs.

There are some nice weapons with +damage against Undead that help in those situations. It is harder for a character with a specialty in poisons and bleed damage to mow through them, but it’s doable with a good weapon with that modifier.

If I don’t have elemental damage from abilities, I’ll sometimes keep a mace or hammer around just for tombs. As long as it’s not blue or purple, you could also slap a relic or charm onto your normal weapon for extra damage or other combat modifiers. I was way too conservative with relics and charms my first play through. My second character just finished Normal, and I used a bunch of them. In fact, I think his only blues were a helm and a necklace.
The completion bonuses on relics and charms are somewhat random, so always check them out.

Anyone noticing anything while running this game in multiplayer and on vista , my buddies performance grinds to a halt so we can’t play together, though my xp machine runs it fine while voip is up. Also I just stated a new toon so if anyone has a time they want to play , I can usually game at night, let me know.

Yeah, I’ll keep a lookout for weapons like that. So far I’ve just been stacking on +poison dmg and +piercing to everything, but it makes sense to have something else around to deal with the pesky skeletons. Actually, the skeletons get destroyed rather quickly. It’s just their bosses that get tricky.
Keep an eye on your relic completion bonuses, too–every now and then one will turn up with +50% damage to undead. Now that you can take relics off your items, there’s no reason not to slap one onto the second-best weapon you can find and put it on weapon switch. Barring that, your slows-enemies poison effect works on undead (the game seems to consider it a debuff and not a poison), so put a couple of points in that pronto.
Try to do this before you get the ‘kill the three undead princes’ quest because those guys are darn tough.

In case anyone wondered about my disappearance from TQ land. After a couple months frantic playing I developed a nasty case of tendonitis (sometimes severe pain in my wrist when rotating or twisting) in my right wrist. I saw a doctor about it, and I am wearing wrist splints most of the time now, but it looks like I will need to see an orthopedic specialist. No, I’m not suing Iron Lore. :D
However, I think my days of Diablo clones (it pained me, but I had to pass on Silverfall because of my condition) are behind me, at least until I am able to solve this problem. The mmorpgs I play are more left-hand “skill button mashing” oriented so they have proven much easier on my poor wrist so far.
I’m sad about it. I guess the lesson is, when your body starts warning you (I had discomfort in the wrist for probably a couple weeks before it became severe pain), listen to it. :p I realize I’m not a spring chicken (42), but I’ve never had pain like this in 15 years of PC gaming nor in all my years of Diablo clone-gaming. It’s all a mystery to me. :(
Left-mouse guided isometric games are very stressful on the hand. I almost always get bad hand pain after playing TQ; and back during Diablo 2 i had horrible cramps and shooting hand pain. It’s gotten worse because i use the mouse 8 hours a day at work, although i’m about 1/3-1/2 ambidexterous so i can do stuff kindof-sortof with switched hands. Some people insist they simply cannot be left-handed at work with a mouse for some reason…
I wish MS would mandate a ergonomic Isometric gaming mousing standard. These games where you hold the mouse button down with pressure for hours on end can cause killer RSIs.
Hmm. Can’t say I’ve experienced any problems, but I’ve had a Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 for a couple of years before upgrading to the Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 recently. My left (keyboard) hand becomes stiff from focusing only on a few keys after a couple hours of gaming while I don’t notice any strain whatsoever on my right (mouse) hand.
Perhaps I’ve just not reached the breaking point yet, though. Ugh, I feel for you, having to limit your gaming choices that way.
Any tips for fighting Typhos as a conqueror?

If you’re having problems, any character can beat him by shooting him from the stairs and moving back so he disengages. Just start shooting in his direction, you don’t have to see him to hit him. He’ll mostly hurl lightning, but you can get several hits in when he breathes fire (it won’t hit you as long as you’re no closer than the stairs). It takes awhile, but it works.
The biggest thing is not to try and go toe-to-toe with him for too long. Stick and move. If the spikes come out, stop attacking since they return significant damage to you. If he brings the meteors down, don’t let them hit you. Disengage as you need if you get low on health while smashing him in the interim. Oh yeah, you’ll need probably upwards of 30 potions and maybe even more.
If your resistances are in the shitter, you can bolster them with scrolls, but I never had too much trouble with the lightning and fire damage.
Colossus Form helps if you’ve got it, especially if you stack up the shrine powers with it.
If you really want to ruin his day, get some mana drain going. I did this with my templar, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work for a conqueror. There’s a low-level artifact that has some good mana drain and you can put spectral matter on a ring or amulet. Once his mana empties, his DPS slumps.
A friend and I just beat Typhon in co-op. He really caught us off guard when we first got to him. :)

RE: Typhon vs. Conqueror:
What Chris said is pretty much how I beat him as a Conqueror. Simply don’t go hand to hand for too long, especially when he’s calling down the meteors. If you’re low on health, keep running around until you get your hp back up through health potions. Just make sure you don’t stand still for too long. The fight will take ages though so make sure you have enough pots.
Never tried that mana drain trick though.
If you manage to have a Frenzy scroll, use it for any melee against Typhon. The extra speed boost alone allows you to zip around (for the 90 seconds it lasts) and it really helps in getting in tight, smashing him a bit, then getting back out. As mentioned above, the trick is just to not stand still for too long.
Thanks for all the help guys, I finall got him this morning… Going through on epic now :)
I had a couple of other questions since I bought the D2D version, and I cant seem to find the answers.

How exactly does death and experience loss work?
-
What are the titles for the different colors of weapons? I think I’ve found that white means its even to what you already have, dark grey is less, yellow is a step up from what you have, green is ?, blue is relic?
-Chris
I haven’t read up on exactly what the penalty of death is in relation to your experience, but the color system works just like most other RPG games. Grey is garbage, white is average, yellow is above average, green is rare, blue is epic, purple is legendary.

Not sure of the exact mechanics, but what I do know is you lose more the higher level you are obviously, and you retain a portion of that lost xp if you collect your gravestone (not sure if this was in the expansion only or in vanilla TQ as well).
Also you can’t lose a level from xp loss.
Greetings:
The gravestone is only in Immortal Throne. You lose a percentage of your experience towards your next level when you die. The exact percentage increases based both on what level you are and what difficulty you’re playing in. I think it starts at less than 1% and goes up to something like 8%, but I’m not sure what the exact numbers are.
Best,
Michael.
