I still think that Titan Quest’s UI is far superior to Diablo’s, Diablo II’s, and Torchlight’s. I love the way I have an alternate set of hotkeys I can instantly switch to, and everything else about it just feels so right.

I mean, it’s a mouse-driven system but I can’t just click on a skill to use it.
A lot of abilities require targeting with the mouse, and that makes clicking on the icons kind of clunky. If you just click on the fireball icon, the game doesn’t know which direction to shoot the fireball. It could launch it the direction your character is facing, or it could give you a targeting cursor so that you can click again on the monster you want to shoot, but neither of those options is very good. Clicking on the icons works better in games like WoW where you explicitly set monsters as your target, but games like Torchlight make you aim the spells more directly.
I should play more TQ and check out that alternate hotkey system.
I hate the spells you’re talking about, but yes I agree they’d still be clunky if you had to click the skill on the hotbar. But I’m not saying I want all the skills to be clickable, I just don’t want to have to be forced to have 10 different things I have to press the number keys for. TQ deals with all this quite a bit better, even if it still suffers a bit once you have tons of abilities.
Where did I ever say it was a shining example? I said it worked fine, and it did. I had no problems playing Torchlight. I don’t use controllers, I don’t play on consoles, and I just don’t want to wind up with a bastardized UI like a number of cross-platform games these days give you.
Just make the PC UI make sense, that’s all I ask.

March 9th. I cant fucking wait. I liked the game a lot on the pc and I know I will have a blast playing it again on my couch.
The XBLA trailer is up on Youtube now:
I think it’s going to look great on a big screen. I’ll definitely give the demo a try.

It’s no Din’s Curse, but at least it looks like they’re trying to give an honest effort to the conversion for 360.
It looks pretty good. The graphics are cartoony enough that they don’t really lose a whole lot in the translation up, and when I run it on my gaming PC at home I don’t notice any significant problems or shortcomings. They don’t even commit the common error of having the menus and/or text and/or inventory boxes end up off the screen if and when you blow up the text to the size that you can read it ten feet away.

We aim to try!
The pile of UIs that were completed and then ripped out and replaced is pretty deep; I think we ended up with a good system. I’m really looking forward to seeing some reviews and hearing what you guys think of it. Can’t wait for release!
So, about that Torchlight 2 thing…can I buy that soon? I’ll gladly pay for the privilege.
Edit- Gah, was skimming on my phone and mistook this for the Torchlight 2 thread.

I really can’t wait for this.
oh I just saw a “gift a friend” button on the quicklook. I wonder how that works? Do gifted gear items show up as xbox mail, or in your global item chest? Nice option if you are a set gear completionist.

This is now out on XBox Live for 1200 points ($15). Does anyone know if the difficulty was tweaked at all? On PC the last 5 or so levels of the story mode on hard were frustrating to the point of not being fun because of one enemy type that could fairly easily one shot me if they got their poison bolt attack off. If that’s still the case I think I’ll just play on normal for now and accept it being a little too easy in the first 10 levels than being painfully hard at the end.

There were a bunch of nerfs applied in the palace, especially to the zealot. The Ordrak fight should also be a bit less of a slog. I recommend starting on hard!

Wooooo!!! I can’t wait to play this.
Reviewed it, which is up on mah interweb site if you must read things about Torchlight. Liked it. Surprised I wasn’t as annoyed by gamepad control as I expected to be.
Either way, more people should play Torchlight!

Would you mind linking the review? I didn’t see your site listed in your profile when I looked for it.
Yep, sorry Marcus (and thanks Brian). I don’t link my own stuff here as a rule. I should put a link in my profile, though, good call.
The review mentioned a new pet type. What is it?
