Yeah, the answer is generally: “Not very”.
If any mechanics changed, odds of things imploding are high. And since we don’t really get patches with like unit number tweaks or the like anymore, I wouldn’t risk it.
That said I loaded up a save from the T&T release to get a screenshot for something and it didn’t die on me. That said, I also didn’t end my turn either, so who knows what might have happened.

It’s insane to me that you can’t delete entire runs. I promise I’m not going to play my HE run from 6 patches ago that I only got to turn 40 in. Let me delete it easily.
Edit: Also thanks for reminding me I need to do that. Time to free up probably several gigs of nonsense.
Edit2: My God, it’s full of stars.

Thanks @Tortilla and @ShivaX. You probably all saved me a lot of frustration when things went sideways 10-20 or worse 50 turns in. And thanks @wisefool that came in handy.

Also of note, whenever a patch is released they’ll toss up a “beta” of the previous version of the game so you can finish any campaign you were playing.
You guys made me randomly realize I don’t ever revisit old saves on games like this. I think it’s because half the fun for me is the emergent storytelling of the RNG and when I can’t really remember the story of the campaign after departing for months, it sort of loses its charm.
Huh.

Do you guys need stupid Warhammer stuff to watch? Of course you do. (Slightly NSFW).
Normally this kind of synth reading stuff drives me off, but it’s cut well enough for meme-ery.
A recurring problem for me in many “big” games.
This is part of why I am playing and enjoying Urtuk. You never need to remember very much.

That’s generally how I feel about most save games. Like if I don’t finish a Civ game and let it sit for a while, I can’t really come back to it.
With Total War Warhammer though, I have a different problem which is I always seem to run out of steam before finishing a game. I’ve got 348 hours playing TW WH2 and 147 on TW WH1 – I like these games quite a bit. But I can count on one hand the number of times I finished a WH1 game and I don’t think I’ve ever actually finished WH2 game. I thought it might be a good time to actually try to finish some campaigns – since I’ve played the campaign starts for my favorite races many times, actually playing the end game might be a nice change of pace.
I came very, very close to finishing a Tyrion campaign and two different times got pretty far playing Mazdamundi as well as a decent length playing Kroq-Gar. The campaign I feel worse about is I got Belegar all the way to where he took Karak Eight Peaks, but it took so long once I finally took it over, I basically stopped playing. I was very proud of recapturing the Karak though.
Ah well, I guess those Steam achievements are never going to get completed :-)
Wait, these games have an end?

I still feel that Total War Attila makes the greatest narratives of any Total War game, even more so than the supposedly narrative heavy Three Kingdoms. In Warhammer the ME map is just so large you’re just going to spend the vast majority of your time facing nearby enemies only, and then some Chaos here or there. At least recent patches added a Hunnic horde like Chaos Invasion upgrade.
Mortal Empires is really like 4 game maps smashed into one, and generally like ships passing in the night, these far distant places almost don’t exist for you if perhaps or until the extreme late game. It’s actually pretty crazy that MEs map is so large it’s absolutely normal if you never leave your starting continent. It’s probably why the Sisters of Twilight are a ton of fun, since you can for the first time hop around the map without too much trouble.
My end in Total War: attila was playing a this is total war achievement campaign. It was one of a kind difficult,
But as someone said above, this game forces a LOT of defensive battles.
My love for attilla will never flag after 100 hours or so. I defended that area around Constantinople for 200 plus turns and made my armies gold and pros. Then I counterattacked into asia minor.
the cheat was that the eastern roman empire had that great interest on economy. Interest meaning literally the interest on the dollar.
Great game. Amazing battles. i outlived the huns.
What’s happening? That looked like Lizardmen and Beastmen?
Thats what reddit is for, someone writes up what you’re supposed to have seen:
OXYOTL AND TAUROX, LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOO
For those wondering about the lore, Oxyotl is a Chameleon Skink that got lost in the Realm of Chaos, and promptly pulled a Doom Slayer with nothing but a blowgun. Seriously, he managed to poison Great Unclean Ones, incarnations of disease and decay.
Tauros, the Brass Bull, is a Doombull (Doombull > Gorebull > Minotaur, to give you an idea of his power level) who was granted metal skin after going on a year-long slaughterfest around Talabecland caused by him eating a Khornate daemon’s head.

Someone noted that there is a Couatl in the video, so Lizardmen are almost assuredly getting that for one of their units.
And Oxyotl is basically Skink Doom Slayer, yes.
He got sucked into the Realm of Chaos and fought demons and lived. For like seven thousand years. Making him one of the most, if not the most, badass non-daemonic entities in all of Warhammer.
He still looks derpy though.
Edit: Also Doombull in the end still, so Beastment get Doombulls finally. Hopefully Great Bray Shamans as well. And super hopefully Jabberslythes and Ghorgons, because screw it let’s go for broke.

Jabber and Ghorgon leak apparently.
