Legend of Total Cheese: multiple gotreks exploit

Play Grombrindal
Build public order building to trigger Gotrek circle to appear
Get 2-3 lords in capital
Wait for a notification popup
Now move the lords in and out of the circle. For added movement try to “trade units” with each other, that will decrease movement spent

Ah it’s explained by this guy first, much more concisely.

Tyjenks are you in there? 11 days of Warhammer eh? Have you come up for air yet?

Can someone tell me how to move troops in a formation? I google this and people say hold the ALT key, but every time I do this my troops form into a line. Lets say I have made a box of 4 units. I want to select all 4 units and click somewhere on the field and have them all move as a box to the new spot.

Can you lock the formation (“G” key I think?) That should do it?

No, that just groups them. The moment I move they end up back in a line again.

Select the unit group you want to move

ALT + mouse over a selected unit in the group.

While holding ALT and mouse button down, drag the units to the new location.

Yes, as the units move, they will move in a line formation. I don’t think Total War games can handle moving box formations, which I suspect is what you want. But following the steps above, the units will reform into their formation once they arrive at the destination.

1) Put units into formation you want
2) ALT LClick drag will set destination points that keep said formation, though the actual movement will be individual
OR
2) Put them all in a control group and lock the group (G)
3) Moving the control group keeps formation, and they will attempt to move at the same speed

Though note that they won’t keep facing while moving. There is no such thing as marching backwards or sideways in Total War.

Thanks fdsaion: That worked. I see that legend of total war dude do it all the time, I just do not know how he did it. The trick is the left click and drag.

Er, yeah I think it’s shift or ctrl G or something to lock it? Whatever @fdsaion said!

I reinstalled Shogun 2 after picking up all the DLC for like ten bucks on the Steam sale. Man that game has nice artwork.

Mostly a recap of all the FLC to date, but the ending was:

“Coming Soon: New Legendary Lord. New Unit. New Reinforcements.”

Not sure what “new reinforcements” means beyond “maybe we finally fixed multiple army reinforcements sometimes being borked as hell”? Could also be RoR, but you’d think they’d just say that.

I don’t think they’ve ever done a gameplay feature overhaul as a FLC and kind of doubt they would because of the roundabout implication that they might start charging money for DLCs that gated off access to basic gameplay features. So far the only thing they have gated with money is the ability to play with certain units and factions.

Of course anything is possible.

On reddit they were saying that one of the big Youtubers said it is “pretty hype, get excited”, but couldn’t talk about it yet. I’m not particularly susceptible to hype and what makes a guy who plays the game 10+ hours a day on legendary difficulty every day excited is not necessarily the same thing that will excite me. But I’m interested to see what it will be.

I mean, they do it all the time. FLC and DLCs always come with a patch that changes the game as a whole.

You don’t need to have them, but they exist in the game even if you don’t download them.

I assume it’s not a mechanics change, since that would usually be more of a “patch notes” thing, but the patch will come with the DLC and FLC. Then again FLCs rarely get annoucement videos for that matter.

Yeah it could be Regiments of Renown as well like they did for the anniversary where they released a bunch of RoR. Looking forward to more info since the release of the DLC is coming up in 2 weeks from this Thursday so speculation is tomorrow teaser with Thursday the full trailer and info dump. This is going off of previous DLC scheduling.

I never remember to use ROR unless I want quick reinforcements or there’s an emergency defense situation

Instantly being able to muster a reasonably competent defense in one turn is probably the best actual use of the RoR’s so I wouldn’t beat yourself up over it.

I thought it was the only use of RoRs? The insta-recruit aspect is the single most powerful aspect of them. The other bonuses they have over regular troops are nice but not worth deploying them and depriving oneself of insta-defense.

I agree. Hypothetically, if you are just trying to build the “doomiest” of doom-stacks there are a handful of RoRs that are pretty decisively better than their counterparts. Those purple Skaven avalanche mortars come to mind, as well as a few single entities that have regeneration on units that normally don’t have it. In those cases you could make some argument for including an RoR or two in your doomstack. But even then you’re gonna almost certainly be fine with the offbrand version. And you’re better off keeping them available to save a settlement.

So yes, definitely the primary value is in the instant recruitment.

IMO “insta-reinforcement” is a separate but related usage–i.e. your main army is off somewhere and you’re short some capability (maybe your siege engine gets destroyed or whatever), then it’s acceptable to use a RoR there.

One other potentially acceptable situation is early game–for some factions (iirc) the early RoRs might give you access to something you’d otherwise need to sink 20 turns and thousands of gold into province buildings for.

And of course the last one is spectacle. The game is all about spectacle and if adding RoRs turns your doomstack into a boomstack* then go for it.

*a doomstack with added spectacle

Agreed - always use as many RoR as possible in my doomstack. What’s the joy in playing the game if your Hippogriff knights don’t inflict poison+spirit bonus damage and fire starfire arrows?

I’ve been thinking about hordes in this game, and that the main criticism against them is that you raze a settlement and the AI will just resettle it asap.

Anyone know of a mod out there that makes it so any razed settlements are impossible to resettle? Even without playing horde I think it might help the late game slog and thin the world out a bit more. I took a look at the workshop and couldn’t find one.
