Need the DLC for that I presume. Unless you have it in case I dunno

I don’t have the DLC. Ugh, that’s really annoying, then.

oom that is a good dlc. In fact, although I generally dislike stringed-out dlc (Paradox etc), the Warhammer 2 dlc is almost always pretty good.

I am trying to think of one I ever felt ripped off…

Ultimately I did not play the undead sea pirates one very much. Now this thing that hits tomorrow == I will me measuring ME turn times and reporting back. So much in that analysis is relative to our respective CPUs but I still think I will be able to gauge an improvement.

RH I may not have been clear: The first turn time measurement was ME campaign turn time as it is now at turn ten.

The second measurement is a ME campaign turn time as it is now at turn 150.

So I laid that out with respect to experience as a baseline to compare the patch incoming tomorrow.

If I get a 30 percent decrease in turn times in Warhammer 2 ME I may be very happy.

Thanks, I’ll keep an eye out for it.

I don’t have any DLC currently, so I guess I can’t play the undead sea pirates at all, but I sure as heck seem to spend a lot of time fighting them. Them and those weird undead robot battlemech thingies.

The cool thing about the paid DLC content is it’s still part of the game, you just only get to play as those factions by buying into the DLC. That coupled with the free content they provide as well as the fact each major patch is packed full of awesome goodies and even occasionally complete reworks of existing factions has continued to make this one of the best value packages out of the box of many other games, imo.

That said, I have about $45 worth of DLC yet to pick up (including tomorrow’s) so I am going to just buy all of it up at once for the sake of completeness.

It really does feel like CA found a nice compromise with having the DLC stuff be in the game even if you don’t own it, so you still get a ton of free content even if you can’t justify the expense in your personal life. And it’s noticeable stuff - the game world really feels a lot more alive with all the new factions they’ve added over time.

Also I feel like they’ve consistently upped their game regarding DLC quality. Beastmen and Wood Elves seem quite bad now compared to how good Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast feel. But I wasn’t complaining much about them at release, it’s really only in retrospect.

I’d be completely unsurprised if the final DLC for Game 2 (after the presumed Orc vs High Elf one we have coming next year) was a Wood Elf/Beastmen DLC. I don’t know that it’s necessarily the front-runner, but I could definitely see it.

Dropping all the man-hours wasted on mini-campaigns and using it for more units/cool stuff definitely shows.

Mini-campaigns are… okayish, but you play them basically once and that’s it. I’d rather have cool stuff I use forever.

I had another thorough read through the patch notes. It might be that the only nation that would be adversely affected would be Dark Elves with the changes to the Black Arks. However, given the chaos that has surrounded my Vampire Coast campaign, I think I’ll do a restart (again) with the new patch and try Luthor Harkon with a slower push into Lustria. No matter what, I have to kill the lizards. But too often I overextend, everyone hates me and I’m losing my gains too quickly while my ship remains under-developed. I’m not embracing the horde mode aspects well enough in other words.

Any reason why you didn’t play the Vampire Coast much? I’m really enjoying their playstyle at the moment that is pretty much jamming my armies with as much gunpowder as possible. I really have to learn to watch the terrain so I can set up great firing arcs and my general army tactics have improved a lot. Another example would be embedding my high armored depth guards with my basic zombie mobs. The depth guard are a 60 unit size and easily surrounded, so adding some zombies to the mix helps prevent that scenario from happening.

Ideally, it would be cool to see High Elves vs Green Skins in the next DLC followed by Wood Elves vs Beastmen.

Well there’s a reasonable chance we live in an ideal world because HEvGS is all that the next DLC could really be unless CA wants to anger a lot of fans. Wood Elves vs Beastmen makes sense on a lot of levels. And you could have them only playable in Vortex and the new faction in ME. That way you could sell to people who didn’t own the Wood Elf or Beastmen DLC and if they really liked the factions they’d still be able to go back and buy the old DLC to get the LL’s, RoRs and campaigns.

No one was screaming bloody murder over people who didn’t own Game 1 got to play Empire if they bought only the Lizardmen v Empire DLC, so I think CA feels safe enough to go for it. And I wish them godspeed, those two factions and Chaos could really use some campaign love. But Chaos will be game 3 for sure.

Looks like the DLC (and I assume the patch, with it) is available!

Must have quantified turn time information!

Well said and I agree, although Chaos need help, they will tackle that in Game 3. Pretty sure it’s safe to say the other factions i want to see will make it in 3…Ogre Kingdoms and Chaos Dwarfs. Aside from each Chaos god ;)

I don’t have any measurements, but this patch seems like a big improvement for the early game. Mortal Empires turn resolution is now bearable for me.

The turn time improvements are vast. Used the stopwatch on my phone, Mortal Empires turn 1 Noctilus campaign processed in 11.42 seconds. Now turn 1 is always the fast turn, but it felt like at least 30 seconds pre-patch, though I never timed it.

I do have a i9 9900k though for reference. They mentioned the improvements would be hardware related.

Edited to add: glancing at reddit tells me people seem to be getting about 60-70% turn time reduction. Sounds right to me. Whatever they did was pretty impressive.

Turn times are unbelievable. Especially for someone that has played a LOT of mortal empires lately. More data will follow, but 21 turns into the new Joan of Arc Britainia campaign, turn times are a blindingly 24 secs. Yes, on Mortal Empires.

I also (and I haven’t studied the patch notes thoroughly) feel like the overall graphical smoothness on the campaign map, the load times INTO battles, and the battles themselves has improved a noticeable amount.

ps sry I was late on post-patch pre-deep analysis. Damn criminals.

I will try to load an old save game at 150 plus turns (yes ok I play this too much) and see what the turn time might be. I play on mostly spectator (mod) mode with a few units out so I just like to see all the pretty pictures of the battles. I do not think any mod I have is affecting turn times (I do have fast turn times mod but I have not loaded it for this patch).

Looks like the funnest (perhaps not the best) Total War Game just got “funner”!

(BTW a rough comparison is that ME turn times are what Vortex turn times were around a year ago pre-patch)

I guess the Avelorn DLC is on sale, so might as well pick that up.

If turn times are this improved I feel much more motivated to give this a try again. For a long time I’ve been planning on it but all the waiting for turns put a bug drag on my motivation.

21.65 seconds at Turn 32. Joan of Arc campaign. However it may not all be guns and roses…

After posting (above) I reloaded my campaign. Now historically for me this game punishes you a bit for loading a save game. It never gets smoother than when you start a game and continue for a few hours. But normally it is bearable.

But when I loaded my save game if really felt sludgey. Turn-times were still blindingly fast, but otherwise performance felt a bit slowish. It smoothed out a bit in a few turns. Just FYI. More intense data is needed. Meaning back to my Joan of Arc campaign – btw I didn’t even notice that Vow button until 20 turns in – dummyhead that I am.
